I started a diet on April 8th and since then I've lost 12lbs. I really haven't been excercising save for what I do at my job which is very demanding physically on me as many of you may already know by my posting. I've cut out junk food (ice cream, candy, chips, etc. etc.) and soda pop out of my diet completely. After watching the documentary Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead on Netflix last night I've decided once a month to do a juice fast where I'll be eating/drink juice for 7-10 days. I'll be making my own juice up it'll consist of kale, spinach, apples and what ever other fruits and veggies I have around the house. On that documentary there was a guy my height he weighed 429 so just about 200 more pounds then me and he did it and with in six months he was down to 229. I'm currently 6'1" and weigh 263 so I figure doing a juice fast once a month and my normal diet routine plus extra excercise I should be able to drop down to about 190 or so by the end of summer. |

I'm currently 218 lbs and am trying to get down to 195 lbs. My doctor told me a couple of years ago that being in the range of 185-195 lbs is fine for a man of my build. I can no longer run or jog(a doctor advised me against doing that after I strained my knee back in '04 -it was a work injury) but walking is my best option. A close friend of mine is going to buy me a couple of pairs of cross training shoes so I can start doing daily walks at a park about half a mile from my residence. |

Good deal Lee, if you want to "reboot" your system maybe try a juice fast like i'm going to do. It could also help you get to your target range in no time. |

All you need to do is cut back on your junk food intake ie no chips, cookies, cake, ice cream etc. etc. and cut soda out of your diet completely and you should be fine. |

I saw an article posted by my dentist on Facebook a few days ago that revealed that the worst food for your teeth is saltine crackers. I always figured it was candy or some other sugary item but it's saltine crackers. I like saltines in soup periodically. Shawn, try eating more soup instead of traditionally solid meals. |

I'm down about 14lbs from the diet, on Wednesday I start a 10 day juice fast to clear out my system, I'll be making most of the juices myself. I can honestly say I'm not looking forward to drinking just just for 10 days but I guess it helps out a lot. |

I'm not sure because this is the first time I've fasted, I think it occurs the first few days of the fast then it goes back to normal once your body gets used to the juice only. I would presume once you go back to "solid" food it'd be the same thing. |

One month in and I lost 15 lbs on my diet. Just need to lose 45lbs more then I'm going to start working on building muscle. I might go for another 55-65lbs more if I still have the beer gut by the time I get down 45 more pounds. |

Fun thread. Something like this normally never appealed to me, but it's kinda my thing now. Back in march of 2012, I'd reached my highest weight of 310 pounds. Hated Exercising, ate whatever and whenever. I usually don't talk about it, nor will I today, But I received a Motivational Push that month. So much so, I started walking. Every Night I'd go for a walk and be with my thoughts. Even tried to get other family members to walk with me. They never usually came with, but it made the walk so much easier. By April 29th 2012, I'd changed my diet to Vegetarian(Still Going Today). I figured it would make me more health conscious. Make me eat proper portions, and actually gain something for all the walks. Speaking of Walks, It was intended to introduce me to exercising without scaring me. I needed an emotional push to make me go Veggie all the way. I may not Support Peta, but they had many articles and videos on the subject on the process of Animal Cruelty through Slaughterhouses. It made me sick to see all of the awful behavior and regulations. I may not be obsessively in love with animals, but I do like them. Knowing I wouldn't be contributing to such, helped solidify my decision. Another brief note about being a Vegetarian. I had gone on a diet before, and lost 20 pounds. But when I went off it, I gained it all back and an extra 10 to that. So I chose I diet(Vegetarian) that I could stay on permanently. So I avoid those issues, and it takes care of my portion control. And So, May of 2012(Or some time close to that) I got a Gym Membership. It wasn't my first. Frankly, fitness at the time scarred me. Along for the Gym Ride were my Father and Sister, who quit after a week. I however, tried something different. For the first week, I only did the bicycle machine for 15 minutes, then left. Then I increased to 30 minutes after another week. I did this so I wouldn't be overworked and quit from exhaustion and boredom. Soon I began walking back and forth to the Gym(It's rather close, I'd say about a mile or so) And Began Experimenting with Treadmills. I began realizing something. That Something being, Exercising was Fun. It keeps me calm through out the day. Eliminates my headaches and helps me avoid sickness. (As a Vegetarian, I also began taking vitamins) (And for the record, I only did Cardio then and currently) There were hard times, and easy times. I kept my motivation in my sights, and kept recalling how no one thought I could do it. Something that negative may discourage some. But I had a Point to make, and kinda wanted to prove to everyone I could do something, and that they were all wrong. As of May 2013, I am 6'2. I weigh 195 Pounds. I have lost 115 Pounds in total. I have been a Vegetarian and Gym Goer for over a year. And I have no plans on going or looking back. Edit: I suppose it should be mentioned, That I've been drinking Water for 2 years. Eliminating pop from my diet completely. (Except when I'm at a movie theater. Edited by Godzillaheisei546, May 8 2013, 11:55 PM.

Not everything is perfect though. One thing I never did while I was doing all of this last year, I forgot to properly tone my body. Granted, a few months in, I started doing crunches. started with 5 one day. 10 the next. Eventually making each day a 100 crunches. I hit a speed bump in December and quit for a month or two. Then Picked it up a again only recently. I desperately need to work on my arms. They're very flabby from the weight lost, and lack of proper toning. It's just that, at my gym, the weight lifting area is filled with intimidating, rude, and generally mean individuals. Maybe not all of them are, but the main point is that there are a lot of people who lift at the gym. Such a crowd appears more daunting to me then it really is. I think I'll just buy some weights and lift at home. Not trying to be a body builder, just trying to have, as I said previously, Proper Toning. Edited by Godzillaheisei546, May 9 2013, 01:58 PM.

Good for you Godzillaheisei, I had a similar expierence back in 2009, I was at my heavist too around the same weight you where though I was six foot even. I had poor excercise and diet due to the previous year being the worst year of my life. So in April of 2009 I committed to doing excercise and proper dieting, long story short I got down to about 220 lbs, I never felt better then in late 2009 my old habbits started coming back flash forward to about six months later I lost my job which as any one can tell you takes a toll on you when you can't even make ends meat so due to the increased amount of stress I went back to old habits heavier and nearly gained all the weight I lost back Flash forward again to last month, I was tired of being fat again so I decided to eat healthier, I purchased a Nutribullet that's sort of like a juicer for my family back in Feb as a birthday present to my mother who also wants to get healthier. I haven't cut meat out of my diet, but I have reduced my red meat consumption down to once a week or once every other week. I am eating more fruits and veggies (spianch and kale being some of my favs) and as for excercising I could be doing more of that but my job keeps me fairly active so I don't do that that much. I have cut out soda all together and I have the occasional sweet just to keep my body regular due to the first time I dieted about a month and a half in I'd be going through sugar withdrawls so bad that I'd vomit in the morning. I want to drop another 30-40lbs as I said then start doing toning. Ideally I'd like to be at about 220 again but this time there'd be more muscle mass. I'm about 258-260 right now so when I get down to about 215 or so start the toning processing which will bump me back up to 220-230. |

Keep it up vamp. You did it once before, nothing is stopping you from doing so again. Something I realize now more then ever, is that loosing weight is actually easy. You just have to want to. When I came to that conclusion, mixed with other motivations, and a lot of patience, then it was very simple. And My Goals were met. As far as my Gym Schedule goes, I know some may say it's excessive. But I go every day(7 days a week) For One Hour. (Presently I work on an Elliptical) |

Lee I think that's the first time I've seen it too. With hours getting cut for I don't know how long I'll probably start doing excercise outside of work and even on days I do work. That should accelerate the weight loss process. |

Thanks for the input Trent unfortunatly a lot of that weight loss has been due to my anxiety disorder and only eating one meal a day. On my days off when I get a flare up I'm going to excercise or something and try to get myself out of this. |

I'd be careful with eating 1 meal a day, people have minimum calorie requirements for their BMI which there body needs for the basic things, going too low will cause your body to go into a panic and start holding onto fat eventually and slowing your metabolism down, down to the point where it's so slow whenever you'd go back to normal you'd put on weight a lot quicker. |

Napster trust me I'm not eating one meal by choice I've been so nauseted that past month from being sick or having anxiety flair ups that every time I eat something I throw up, this has also caused my appetite to decrease to the poing where I can only stomach one large meal a day and by large I mean something someone would consider a normal sized meal.

Have you considered, in addition to being checked out by a physician, counseling of any kind? I'm no expert obviously but I have to wonder if counseling might help you (somewhat anyway) with these anxiety attacks you are having.

I have indeed considered consouling but unfortunatly my insurance doesn't cover I believe and if it does I couldn't go once a week because I have a "savings account" with it. That means I pay $20 a week and my job matches that $20 and once it's gone I have to pay out of pocket. However if I get seriously injured and/or hospitlized the most I'll have in medical bills is $2500. |
