"Hear me, my peace-drunk brethren! You are being led astray by your weak and frail leader Queenchief Nuria. She colludes with the ponies to declaw you, to dull your fangs! Long ago the Kirin struck fear into any country touching the sea! We were rulers of bloodied coin and had respect! but now, now the ponies, the weak cowardly ponies try to take away your culture! They deny us our heritage! Join me! join me and I'll show you the true path to power! Through blood! Carnage and gold! I defeated your 'queen' in single battle... She has failed you and grown soft with her 'peace.' a lapdog for her Equestrian masters! It is time for the Kirin to return to the forefront, through fire and blood!"- The Warlord Ashwrath gave this recuitment speech in the kirin city of Aeros with a retinue of strange uniform looking kirin. Many are worried of the violence to come and are already petitioning Equestria to intervene.

Welcome to Multa Saecula. A set of worlds aside from just Equestria itself. Many generations ago, the plane that housed Equestria; Terra, created magical portals to other dimensions. These dimensions are Lux, a land rich with magic, yet constantly under threat from the same. And Tenebris, a dark plane where only the strong and willful survive.
These realms have existed together peacefully so far, commencing in trading, the sharing of culture, and immigration. Though their political views are much different than that of Terra, they find a way to coexist, sometimes reluctantly. Walk into this set of worlds and discover what adventure, romance, or tragedy, awaits you.

IN DEPTH OVERVIEW OF MODERN KIRIN
Basic Biology Though once pegasus, these now draconic creatures are a testament to magic assisted evolution. Standing twice as tall as their equine cousins, they are a force to be reckoned with, capable of feats of incredible strength, as well as reckless endeavors.
 Art by Amazing Artsong
The Kirin, in place of fur coats, now sports jackets of hardened scales, that serves as a natural form of protection for their bodies. Their underbellies are notably softer, though the mask over their faces are much thicker and harder to damage. In place of hooves, the now have claws, sharp and perfect for hunting prey or fighting off intruders. These claws also allow them a unique dexterity once only acquired by gryphon talons or diamond dog claws. Their manes run from their heads, down the length of their backs and to the tip of their more reptilian tails. Over the years, they have developed various patterns that line their scales, giving their bodies some natural decoration. Also unlike their Pegasus cousins is their inability to manipulate the weather, centuries of ley induced evolution redirecting the magic use for that ability into a more raw and fierce form, their fire breath. Though they have retained feathered wings through their growth, the composition of the feathers has changed to be more resistant to burning.
Newborn kirin come into this world without scales, and instead with a soft, fluffy coat of fur to keep their bodies warm. As they mature, their scales grow in until their bodies are covered with them.
Societal Norms & Customs Kirin could be compared to children in some aspects. They’re generally lazy except in the performance of their chores, or required work. And all kirin do their work, as those who do not, do not eat.
One should not be alarmed if they see two kirin coming to blows in the side of the street. This is a normal occurrence when a conflict can otherwise not be hastily resolved, and is often a form of sport. Annual bouts are held in the colosseum, where competitors fight and perform feats of strength and agility to determine who is the strongest. None are ever killed of course, but the sport is always full contact with deadly weapons.
While the kirin often fight for bloodsport, they can also be surprisingly gentle. Their children are not born with the protective scales that the adults have, so the fluffy offspring are handled with the utmost care so as not to injure them with general roughness. In addition, the kirin are known to care for dragon nests, watching the eggs and caring for the nest while the mother is away. Dragon nests are considered sacred to the kirin, and are treated with courtesy and respect.
Another long held custom is the revel and celebration of a marriage. When two kirin take their vows to each other, they also have a battle in front of all of the witnesses. The first to cause the other to bleed has the honor of consuming their life-partner’s blood, sealing their marriage and beginning of the festivities. Drinks, food, games and fights all night long, concluded when the two newlyweds retire to their home and consummate their marriage. Instead of a ring, it is customary to wear your spouse’s feathers in your mane to signify your marriage.
The society as a whole is rather lax on the subject of adulthood and that which can be considered promiscious. The age of adulthood within kirin communities is 16, and all of the privileges that adulthood entails are granted at this age. Sometimes there will be a coming of age ceremony held by the families of older fashion, though it is more often that they take an Equestrian approach and simply give well wishes while the new adults find their way in the world, providing assistance as required.
On the subject of promiscuity, while it is certainly not as open as some rumors would lead you to believe, it is not uncommon for some close friends to share a bed in companionship. Such things are believed to be normal and natural, and expressions of passion are encouraged by the Church of The Mother, to ever follow the examples dragons set for being fierce, passionate, and noble.
Military Might While the kirin haven’t fought in a war (neither has anyone else in the last thousand years for that matter), they still keep an impressively sized military. While they build few ships, their navy consists of many captured and converted raider and pirate ships. Still currently in development is the kirin’s first military airship, which is undergoing much study.
Instead of adopting the traditional ranking structure of nations like Equestria, the kirin created their own, ranking from highest to lowest:
Hersir/Admiral, The commanding Generals of the Army and Navy respectively. Merkismathr (Merkis), to be advisors to their Hersir or Admiral Radningar (Rad), to be commanders. Drakier, powerful warriors willing to train new warriors. Vanir, powerful warriors not willing to train new warriors. Huskarl, the equivelant of a lieutenant. Berserker/Valkyr, veteran warriors who have shown outstanding skill in both combat and leadership. Commands the warriors under them. Marauder, to be the equivelant of sergeants. Commands the warriors under him. Vikeen, fierce, experienced warriors who have proven themselves. Himthiki (Htk), the highest rank a new warrior may be given. Thegn, the lowest of offensive warriors, though they still need further training. Drang, suited for defensive battles only, may be eligible for higher rank. Herra/Fru, new initiates, not yet ready for combat
Lastly are Champions, those given special title by the acting King or Queen Chief. They are treated much like knights, only they do not answer to those within the active military, only to the King or Queen Chief, fighting as their representatives.
Warriors are permitted to challenge their superiors for rank, though it is generally advised that they wait until it is deemed they have earned such rank.
Tours of Service The kirin have never fought in an official war, however, they participate in numerous combat tours against pirates, raiders, and other undesirables around or near their homeland. Captured ships are often taken and converted into warships, their cargo either taken for supplies, or traded away for the same. As they have little need for currency, any money they find is melted down into its raw material and dealt with as the captor sees fit, whether it be distributing it among the warriors or given to the throne.
Warriors are generally rewarded for their service as appropriate for their ranks. Higher officers are given plots of land, while the lower enlisted are given meals, bedding and the honor of service.
The Chiefs and the King/Queen Dracotalon is ruled by a single King or Queen Chief, along with advisors and a council of elders. Though the Council and Advisors have much sway over the happenings of the country, it is ultimately the decision of the King or Queen Chief what happens and what does not. Like most postions, the position of King or Queen may be challenged, though it is not simply decided with a duel. While combat is a part of it, they must also compete in a battle of wits and intelligence, as well as moral fortitude. The victor of these less direct competitions is generally decided by the Council.
Chiefs are much likened to Governers, who are in charge of a portion of the country. They oversee the day-to-day happenings and events, as well as reviewing the law and ensuring that it is upheld.

The Church of The Mother
It's not apparent on first impression, but most kirin practice religion quite regularly. The subject of their worship is The Mother of Flame, depicted as a large, golden dragon who flies across the sky, covering herself in flame thus making her the world's sun. She follows after the moon, which is considered to be her egg, watching over it eternally until such time that it hatches, setting forth a million million dragons.
Kirin worship her by making offerings of burnt animal carcasses, or by ritualistic combat meant to provide her with entertainment. When hunting, it is customary to consume a piece of the kill's heart raw, as a show of respect. In addition, it is the job of the church to assign workers to watch over dragon nests, caring for the eggs until they hatch. Thes workers are normally treated with respect, as they hold a holy duty.
Preists and Preistesses hold positions similar to teachers, in that they educate those that will listen to the ways of The Mother. They also care for temples and churches, performing rites and communing with the heavens through wise, aged dragons. It is not unusual to see a priest of The Mother take part in sparring or ceremonial combat, and even challenges for positions of rank. They live and teach three simple tenants from which their religion is founded:
Passion is pure; They teach all to follow their hearts and feelings, regardless of consequence.
Tooth and Claw shall judge; Serious disagreements or challenges for position, or even in some cases matters of law shall be settled through combat.
Master yourself; Knowing your strengths and weaknesses will make you a better in the eyes of the mother.
Through these, the kirin society is heavily influenced, and modeled.

Dracotalon and Kirin Festivities
The kirin people, in the spirit of their rowdy and playful nature, spend a good portion of their time celebrating various festivals and holidays. During these times, the citizens cook up various dishes and uncork their best wines, as they take their celebrations very seriously! Many of their meals consist of rice dishes, of which they will top with just about anything. Curries, stews, soups, and casseroles tend to be favorites. Though it's not a Dracotalon party without the carving of a freshly slaughtered planesbeast, a creature of semi-reptilian nature that roams the land of Dracotalon as little more than a pest. And of course various other meats make it onto the plates of party goers. Many foul are hunted and served with sauces and spices. Animals that can be found in most places of the world are chopped up, sautéed or grilled. The various vegetables and spices they add give their foods a vibrant color that teases the eyes and seduces the stomach, only to fight back with a warm zest that warms the body thoroughly.
The Summer Festival
The most anticipated and most widely celebrated event is the summer solstice, celebrated as the Summer Festival. This event dates back far back in the history of the kirin, to a time when their ancestors fled the harsh winters just to stay alive. This festival can last anywhere from a couple of days, to a full two weeks, depending on the location. Games, food and fights are the center of the attractions here, and more than a few bonfires are started in a strange chaotic reverence for what is considered to be the strongest part of summer.
Festival of The Dead
For certain the most solemn and reverent of all the festivals by comparison. The Festival of The Dead is celebrated on the Day of The Dead, a time to remember those that have passed, and to respect their memory with fire, food and drink. During this time, the kirin often paint themselves in the visage of the dead, drawing skeletal patterns on their bodies as a tradition that long ago started based on the superstition that the dead could only see other dead. While often much more tame, this festival still holds many games and events.
Dracotalon Chocolate Festival
If there's one thing the kirin love more than fighting to exhaustion, it's chocolate. During this week long festival, the kirin put chocolate in everything! And to great success! While not actually enforced, a previous Kingchief once passed a law, banning the consumption of chocolate for the week prior to the start of the festival, as a sort of joke to build up anticipation for the event. This festival is particularly popular among the very young.
Festival of The Pilgrimage
One of the shorter festivals, in which an extravagant play is performed, depicting the life of the kirin ancestors when they first arrived at their new home and found the dragons for the first time. The play lasts into the night, after which a large party is thrown on the grounds of the capital’s castle courtyard. While only lasting a night, there is no doubting that this festival holds the widest variety of food and drink for consumption.
The Mother's Hunt
Once a year, many kirin will gather together and go on a large scale hunt for planesbeast. This is partly as a celebration and partly to control the population, so as to keep it from getting out of control. It's common for parents of fledglings to use this hunt as a blooding, their first hunt. When they are satisfied with their hunt, they take their kill back home and have a huge feast. Of significant note is that a portion of this hunt is burned in offering to The Mother.
Birthdays
Every kirin has a birthday! And birthdays require celebrations! While much smaller than the festivals of the nation, birthdays tend to be a gathering of close family, and friends. The one being celebrated is showered with gifts and affection, and all share in pastries and specially planned activities. It is customary for large amounts of alcohol to be consumed on the day a kirin reaches adulthood.
Marriages
Of the most intense celebrations the kirin partake in, a union of lives is among the most of these. A marriage between two kirin is rowdy, loud, and excessive. Food and drink are a must, and freshly slaughtered planesbeast is always available for carving. In the middle of the festivities, the bride and groom get together in a ring and, in front of all of the party goers, have a battle. The newlyweds fight until one of them draws blood, at which point the other has the honor of consuming the blood. After that, they retire to privacy to consumate their marriage, and then most likely rejoin the festivities.

On The Subject of Kirin Promiscuity
Earlier it was mentioned that the kirin are rather open about their relationships, and who they have them with. While some rumors blow this fact far out of proportion, some others are based on truth. While we are certainly not suggesting that one should go to Dracotalon or any kirin village expecting a quick lay, it isinportant to note just how far this openness towards one another spans.
The first of the three tenants of The Mother is "Passion Is Pure". And the kirin take this to heart. Rarely can it be said that it was unsure what a kirin was feeling about something or someone. In the spirit of this, they often act on emotion. And hormones, being what they are, have a large effect on this, leading often to sexual encounters between close friends.
However, one should not think that it's a 24 hour tumble in the hay wherever the mood may strike. Far from it. Kirin are taught the importance of tact and discretion, so these friendly encounters are most often taken to a private place where one cannot disturb nor be disturbed. And of course, one should not let it interfere with necessary duties.
Kirin relations occur in a rainbow of ways, sometimes between a younger and much older adult, and heterosexual or otherwise, between two or more. It does not happen often, but if one visits Dracotalon and finds themself propositioned by a kirin, they should be flattered! However, we encourage visitors to politely decline if they feel at all uncomfortable.
Note: While it has been known to occur, incestuous relations are highly diacouraged. If only for the avoidance of potential genetic defects from inbreeding.

Dracotalon Currency
[This is a reworking of the previously mentioned barter economy to a more modernized system]
As citizens work and grow in Dracotalon, so too do they earn money with which to maintain a livelihood. As not all jobs bring goods to barter with, a system was put in place that entitled citizens to a certain portion of the country's treasury, using a form of currency called Tokens.
The system uses four primary tokens: Flakes, Scales, Plates and Slabs. A flake is the component of the least value, with scales being just below Plates, and Slabs holding the most value. These tokens are specially crafted from dragon scales, and hold the sigil of the Dracotalon crown, as well as a short creed and specification of value. A scale is stated worth ten flakes, ten scales make up a plate, and ten plates make up a slab.
The conversion rate for Token to Bit is about 2 to one using Flakes as the standard. Where an apple in Equestria might cost 2 or 3 bits, it would cost 4 or 6 Flakes.

Dragonslayers and Killing Dragons
It is well known that nearly none of the other existing nations share Dracotalon's love for dragons. Many other nations spawn those that take up the profession of Dragonslayers.
Dracotalon is not shy in mentioning that the Dragon Slaying profession is strictly banned in their country and even punishable by death in nearly all circumstances. Dragons are the object of their worship after all, and to destroy your patron is to commit the greatest heresy. Dracotalon does not typically have this problem. But when it does, military units are activated to hunt down and bring offenders to justice. Those they bring back alive are made an example of for others to witness.
Fallen Dragons
For all it's talk about the sacrilege of killing dragons, even they understand that sometimes it is for the safety of everyone involved that a dragon be disposed of. This is not a wonton act of violence or a hunt, though. For a kirin to be given the task of slaying a dragon is a sacred and reverent ritual.
Before a dragon can even be considered for slaying, it must be declared Fallen by the elder dragons and the high priests of the church. These dragons are those who have given in to more feral desires and behavior, making itself a danger to villages or travelers. If a Fallen Dragon is considered beyond saving, as is most often the case, a kirin is selected to perform the Rite of Slaying, in which they are to kill the dragon and put it to rest. This is done with the utmost respect, as the dragon was once as kin, now lost.
Once a kirin has slain a dragon, though, their work is not yet done. They must return to the church to be cleansed of their deed, dispite the righteous nature of it. Cleansing involves a short period of fast and prayer, accompanied by priests who all pray for The Mother to forgive them for slaying their kin. Once the cleansing is complete, the kirin is sent home, free of guilt for their actions.

Draconic Domestication
The kirin of Dracotalon are known to have a special affinity and comradery with dragons. But one of the lesser known aspects of this relationship is their ability to tame and control the lesser dragons of the world. While they’re certainly not the first people to do this, they seem to be able to command a certain respect from these creatures that is rarely seen given to others. To begin, it should be noted that True Dragons, the intelligent and sophant members of the draconic race, are incapable of being “tamed” as it were. Though they can be reasoned with. The lesser species, however are used for various purposes, such as agriculture, or simply vanity.
Wyverns are the most notable in the country of Dracotalon, as they have a widespread presence around the whole of it. Their appearance is similar to that of dragons, only they have no front legs, using appendages on their wings much like a bat. They are slightly larger than kirin and have fierce attitudes to boot. Commonly known for being pests who feed on not only the beasts of the wild, but also the vulnerable eggs of dragons who have left their nests. In many cases, a particularly bothersome group of wyvern will be hunted for eradication. In cases of domestication, due to their aggressive nature they serve best alongside special trainers in Dracotalon’s military. While there are few units who use wyvern, they have proven useful in detecting contraband and enforcement of restricted zones.
Amphiptere are the most common draconic creature in Dracotalon. About half as numerous as avians, and roughly the size of a phoenix, they make excellent household companions and show-creatures. They’re appearance can most accurately be described as “Snakes with wings.” With no appendages other than their leathery tools of flight to speak of. This makes them incredibly agile and capable of incredibly complex maneuvers, as well as getting into tight spaces with more ease of motion.
Lindwurms, otherwise known as Sea Dragons, inhabit the oceans and some lakes of Dracotalon. While these creatures can be domesticated, their use has been extremely limited due to the limitations of their natural habitat. Earliest recorded uses of Lindwurms indicated that they were best suited for either fishing or some sort of naval application. Their physical features consist of long, slender bodies and fins.
Wyrm inhabit the mountains and deep caves of the land. They burrow and tunnel through the earth, making their homes in dark places, normally near an aquifer or other source of water. They are snake like in appearance, with no appendages protruding from their bodies. When captured, they are most often sold to wealthy farmers, who use them to till the fields for the planting of crops. Excavators use them to clear tunnels into mines, and they can be trained to assist with construction.
Drakes tend to inhabit the warmer areas of Dracotalon, often being found in or near volcanic formations or tropical areas. Their quadrupedal forms have no wings, but this does give them some advantages. Being slightly smaller than the average kirin, they can use agricultural tools, sniff out contraband or track down prey. They make excellent guard animals, and decent companions if trained correctly. The military uses them to an extent as well, though their inability to fly leaves them in a purely ground supporting role.
