Full Name: Jonathan Silvercloud
Code Name: Forge
Age: 29
Gender: Male, heterosexual
Physical Description: Forge stands at 5'4" and weighs 195 lbs. Fifty of those pounds are from his mechanical leg. His hair is black and usually kept short along with a neatly trimmed beard. His eyes are dark brown and often focused in the distance while he thinks. Forge's skin is lighter than most Cheyenne because he rarely does outdoor activities, but is still a slightly reddish brown. There are no distinguishing or memorable marks or scars on most of his body, but his hands are a patchwork of callouses and scars. He does have a cybernetic right leg, but it is usually covered with a hologram to make it look like a flesh and blood body part. His build is average. He works out regularly, but also eats tons of junk.

He doesn't have much of a sense of fashion. Usually he's in jeans and a tee shirt covered in grease. For occasions where he has to be formal, he owns a black suit. Any sort of accessory or adornment he has is utilitarian; that's not a bracelet, it's a length of 16 gauge tungsten-moly wire that he's using for a device he's working on.
Playby: Benjamin Bratt

Personality Overview: Tinkerer: Forge is always messing with machines. This is likely due, in part, to his mutation, but he was still a curious child even before his mutation activated. He doesn't pass on a chance to learn something new and is often hit by the urge to make new machines just for the fun of it.

Nerd: Forge didn't get exposed to science and popular culture until he was a teenager, but it quickly came to dominate his interests. He loves science fiction, video games, and technology. Make a Dr. Who or Farscape reference and you'll be on his good side. Like any nerd, he invests a lot of emotional energy in his interests and it is obvious how much they mean to him.

Man Child: Not in the sense that he doesn't accept responsibility, but Forge is still very child like. His curiosity and intensity of emotion is more like a child than an adult. Part of this may be due to his highly creative nature, and part of it may be due to the fact he sort of had a second childhood in his teens when he was exposed to mainstream culture. In the ways that matter he is an adult; he takes responsibility for his actions, can be trusted to look out for people's well being, and plan for the long term. But he gets excited for seemingly silly things, plays pranks, and gets up early on Saturday to watch cartoons and eat lucky charms.

Computer Genius: He doesn't like to bring it up, but he actually is a genius, even without his mutation. He has an unprecedented understanding of computer languages and coding theory. It's why he has been able to create nearly human level personalities for his AIs. Forge tries to not think of himself as a genius because he's worried it will eventually go to his head and the last thing he wants is to push people away with a superiority complex.

Complicated Lover: Love and relationships are one aspect of life that Forge has a lot of trouble with. Between a certain type of immaturity and not knowing what he really wants, Forge doesn't know how to make a relationship work. He's had successful trysts, but nothing substantial. Before he can move into something serious, he firsts needs to figure himself out. Although he's never considered himself straight, he doubts that he'd ever find a man he's attracted to. He isn't counting it out, though. Unbeknownst to him, one of Lisa's main goals as his assistant AI is to help him discover who he is so that he can find that person that compliments him and will fall in love with him.

Goals: Surpass all mortal comprehension of technology, finally get a girl to like him

Powers: Forge's powers all stem from an anatomical mutation of his brain. Instead of separate hemispheres, his brain is all one unit and has abnormally deep sulci, giving his brain a larger surface area and more processing power.

Mechanical/Electrical Intuition: Because of the structure of his brain, Forge can process information in a much different way than most humans or mutants. He has a natural ability to pick up on physics principals just by observing their results in action. This means that he can subconsciously learn physical principals, so he can pick up mechanics and electronics knowledge the way an athlete hones their reflexes or balance. This also gives him enhanced understanding when he is consciously trying to learn. This means that Forge only needs to see the insides of a machine to understand how it functions. Extremely advanced technology that works on principals he isn't familiar with (like anti gravity) would take longer, but with enough study, they would would get figured out.

Artistic Engineering: Like his ability to learn about machines subconsciously, he can also design them in a similar manner. So long as Forge has a clear idea of what the machine needs to do and has an understanding of all the science needed, he can create designs with astounding accuracy in a short time. All the mathematic calculations needed are done subconsciously, so for Forge, engineering is less of a science and more like composing a poem or music. If Forge does not have the necessary knowledge to make the device work, he becomes aware that something is missing and explains it as the same kind of feeling as when you can't remember a word.

Build Trance: After Forge has designed something, he can trigger a build trance. When that begins, his brain shuts down all functions that aren't vital. This basically turns off his conscious mind. Only strong stimuli like loud bangs, bright flashes, or physical pain can end the trance before its complete. While in the trance, all his processing power is going to analyzing his environment and directing his actions. By comparing what he's seeing with a kinesthetic awareness of his body, he is able to very accurately judge size and thus can manufacture all the parts for his creation without needing to measure. So long as all the materials and tools are available, Forge will stay in the trance until the device is complete. If he is missing a material he needs, his body becomes too exhausted, or a strong stimuli is received, his brain suspends the trance so he can deal with the issue, however, he feels a strong compulsion to return to the trance. Forge is unable to choose to suspend a trance once it's started, but if it is suspended, he can chose to completely end it instead of resuming.

Telepathic Abnormality: Due to the altered structure of his brain and thus mind, Forge produces unusual reactions to telepathy. Normally, when he isn't in a trance, his mind creates a very strong psychic signature. Telepaths and empaths can locate him easily and often at greater distances than they normally can. His thoughts, but not his emotions, seem to be amplified and many telepaths have described it as though his mental voice is constantly shouting. By "thinking loudly" he is able to make the volume of his mind great enough that it causes pain to telepaths that are not adept at blocking it out.

When he is in a build trance, the entire nature of his mind changes and his conscious self is suppressed. Anyone trying to read his mind in this state will find a chaotic jumble of mathematics, blueprints, and unidentifiable gook that is Forge's subconscious understanding of science. While in this state his memories are nearly impossible to access unless the telepath is very familiar with Forge's mind. However, while in the trance it is incredibly easy for anyone to puppet his body. Even telepaths that don't normally have that talent find him quite receptive to commands.

Cybernetics: After he lost his leg, Forge constructed himself a mechanical leg. In its basic function it is a complete replacement for his right leg. It starts above the knee and ends in a foot with individually articulated toes. The leg sends feedback to his brain and feels almost like his old leg. It does weigh fifty pounds, so Forge has had to adapt the way he walks to account for this. Running is awkward but still possible. When seen as it really is, the leg has a sort of skeletal aesthetic, with panels of what look like carbon fiber making a shell so it is roughly shaped like a real leg. Besides being a replacement for his lost limb, the leg also houses an array of technology for Forge to use;

  • Micro Cold Fusion Reactor: This is the power source for the leg and its devices and is a majority of the weight associated with the limb. I can produce 30kW per hour, enough to power an average American home, indefinitely. It can be increased up to 50 kW per hour, but doing so starts to cause excess heat in the leg and can only be done for a short time before it becomes hazardous to Forge.
  • Computer: The leg has a miniature super computer, capable of processing 450 teraflops and with a memory capacity of 2 petabytes. Most of that is used to run the AI and the leg's holographic abilities. This means Forge is never without a computer.
  • AI: Forge can store one of his AI programs in his leg at a time and it is almost always his assistant Lisa. Although the AI isn't as fast as when it's running on the mainframe, it can be run completely by the leg computer in situations where communication with the mainframe isn't possible.
  • Holographics: Forge has added hardlight emitters to the leg. While they cannot produce tactile constructs the way the Danger Room can, they are able to produce convincing images. The main use of this is to make his leg appear as though it is flesh instead of metal and also to produce an interface so Forge can access his computer. It can be used to change his appearance, but is nowhere near the quality of an actual illusion power or shapeshifter. Lisa will occasionally use this device to project an image of herself next to Forge.
  • Misc. Physical Features: The feet have spikes that can extend from to sole of the foot like cleats and are generally used to provide traction. Forge is able to direct the heat from the reactor to the foot. There is a storage compartment that he normally keeps tools in. Usually he has a plasma cutter, micro welder, screw gun, saw, and drill, all of which are powered by the leg reactor.

Skills: Forge has military combat training, can operate many kinds of vehicles and equipment, is proficient with manufacturing techniques, and is a programming genius even without the use of his powers.

Birthday: June 5th
Legal Status: Honorable discharge from the military
History: Forge grew up on a Cheyenne reservation. His early life was spent like most of the other children there, except he was being groomed to be the tribe's next shaman. The current shaman, Naze, was waiting for the boy Jonathan to come of age before beginning his training. Although Forge's physical mutation had always been there, helping him learn, it wasn't until he was 13 that he entered his first building trance. He had been wanting to find an easier way to draw water from a well and then he entered the trance. For two days, no one could snap him out of it. He didn't respond to his family or anyone, he just kept building. When he had finished constructing a windmill pump, he returned to normal. Naze believed the boy had been possessed by a wraith to interfere with him becoming a shaman and wanted to exercise the spirit from Forge. He also wanted to destroy the windmill and prevent Forge from building any more devices. That was not what Forge wanted. He was awestruck with his new abilities. Knowing he would never be allowed to explore them there, he left the reservation to attend high school.

Nothing on the reservation had prepared him for mainstream culture in the U.S. His mind was overwhelmed by the influx of data, but he absorbed it anyways. Even though he had not had much formal schooling, he quickly caught up and excelled in math and science. Nerd culture also absorbed him. He would spend long hours in the library reading Jules Vern, Arthur C. Clarke, and Philip K. Dick. He watch all of the Star Trek series and then branched out into more obscure sci fi series.

It was also quickly realized that he had an abnormally high intelligence. He picked up math faster than any of the teachers had ever seen and floored his autos teacher with the accuracy of his work. Despite this, he struggled in school. His mutation gave him no special help in areas not related to math or science and he was lacking in much of the previous schooling the other kids had in subjects like history, english, and poly sci. He was often reprimanded by his teachers for not explaining his process on math problems because he wasn't even aware how he did some of them. Despite the unique challenges he faced, Forge worked hard and graduated 3rd in his class.

After he graduated, Forge had options for what he could do. As a Native American, and one with his genius, he could attend almost any college he wanted to. He also could have started freelance work then, but in the end he joined the military as a mechanic. He wanted to get out into the world and see more than just the reservation and high school, and he wanted to get his hands dirty. The military would let him do both of those things. After he got out in the field, his abilities brought him some notoriety as he was often witnessed repurposing parts for other uses or even making new ones from scratch. It gained him the nickname Forge from the other mechs. He was even going to be recommended to advance to full tech because of his knack for computers.

That all changed when he was trying to fix a broken Humvee. A nearby IED was triggered and Forge lost his foot in the resulting explosion. After recovering and getting a prosthetic, he was honorably discharged from service after only three years. He proceeded with his previous plan and attended the University of Illinois the fall after he turned 21.

He was majoring in computer science because that was where his real genius, unrelated to his powers, was. On top of that, he got involved with as much engineering as he could and rapidly improved his abilities. He finished a semester early and got a job doing freelance programming until the next fall when he returned to U of I for his masters.

In his free time in grad school he started looking into medical technology and, with the help of his powers, developed a system for biofeedback and designed a new prosthetic foot that would allow him to feel like he had with the organic one. At the same time he was working on a groundbreaking AI program for his thesis. After winning a couple of robotics competitions, he got enough money together to buy the materials and built the new foot he had designed. He couldn't get any doctors to attach it for him, so he had to do it himself. The process was painful and was done in the school's veterinary lab. He'd pressured a friend into letting him in.

Some suspicious rivals of his found out about the new foot and eventually tracked down some of his blood in the lab and had it tested. The result was positive for the X gene and they felt as though they had been cheated in competitions and in class. A small mob of angry students hunted him down and attacked him. They ripped the foot from his body and beat him so badly that he had to have the rest of that leg amputated above the knee.

Despite being hospitalized, he stayed on top of his class work and was on track to graduating. Then he got called before the school board to discuss if he was to be expelled. In light of him being outed as a mutant, it was questioned whether his work was his own, or if it somehow was considered cheating. In a very close vote, it was determined that even if his abilities were afforded him by his mutation, it was still his own work and therefore no school rule was broken. He graduated, but it had a bitter taste for him with the circumstances what they were.

After school he continued to do freelance work and even ended up on some military projects. Eventually he was approached about the Utopia project from the secret Division X. He was an ideal candidate with his military background, technical expertise, and status as a mutant. With better resources, Forge improved on the foot design and built himself a new leg in time to join the other residents as they arrived on Utopia
