Character: Petra Date: March 13th Time: Sunrise Place: Petra's Sand Flat AL was up bright and early, as soon as there was sunlight, she had run out of the Bunker and made straight for her island. Bare feet pounded the cool sand, tattered jeans hugged her hips and a baggy tee shirt billowed in the wind. Her hair was back in a pony tail but the ends hit her face when the air caught them just right. As she approached the water, little mounds of sand rose up to the surface and formed stepping stones that she used to hop towards the sand bar she had claimed. The wet sand was hard as rock beneath her feet, held solid by her powers and dropped back under the eaves once she released them. To anyone a reasonable distance away, it would appear she was walking on the water's surface. She had been so weak living on the streets, but the steady meals and dancing while she was locked in the FoH research facility had built her up and her graceful leaps to the flat were not those of a weak child. A few moments of that and her toes touched the hard smooth surface of her little island. Although it still looked like sand, she had spent significant effort using her powers to crush it into hard stone. Petra started to dance and hummed quietly as she did. With her eyes closed, she expanded her awareness of the rock and sand around her. When she had a complete idea of what was there, she got to work. Slender legs crossed as she sat down in the center of the flat. At first nothing happened, then in a circle around her, ten cylinders began to grow out of the ground like sprouts reaching towards the sun. As they grew taller, small parts began to split off and intertwine, forming the kind of elegant organic shapes she remembered from the elves in the Lord of the Rings. She got far enough that the tops of all the columns interlocked and then stopped. There was a thin layer of sweat on her skin and her muscles ached as though she had used them to lift all that rock. For a few minutes she sat there and recovered, then she got to her feet and pranced over to a column to inspect her work. Tags: Dryad |

Character: Dryad Date: March 13 Time: Sunrise Place: Petra's Sand Flat Callie lifted a hand slightly in the air, twirling her fingers in fluid motion as she pivoted her feet and dodged the barrage of vines coming towards her. Her cheeks glowed pink as she stepped back just in time to dodge a vine that tried to grab her ankle. Pirouetting on her toes, she swirled left than right before she dropped to her knees as a vine soared over her head. Closing her eyes, she cocked her head as she listened for the whistle indicating a plant attacking her and then breathed out. Bringing her hands together, she rose to her feet just as the plants soared towards her and they stopped inches from her face. Opening her eyes, she turned her head to view the frozen attackers and smiled then placed a loving hand on the nearest one. “Rest now, babies…” she cooed as she stroked the leaves softly and the plants obeyed her corning. Watching them recede back to their original resting places, her eyes sparkled with love and then she began to walk back towards the main building. Letting the wind rustle her hair and blow a few strands across her face, she came to a rest against a wall and studied the view. As her gaze ensnared the larger islands, her eyes paused on one of the smaller sand bars in the water as she saw movement there. Brushing the strands out of her eyes, she made her way down the hill towards the water softly and dipped a toe in the water when she reached the edge. Turning, she studied the area for any spies and then pulled off her clothing until she was wearing only her underdress of green. Stepping into the water calmly, she continued to walk as the water levels rose until only her head was above water. Breaking into her favourite stroke, Callie let the water pull her forwards as she swam towards the sand bar without fear. Yearly holidays in Sicily, Venice and Greece had taught her to swim to conserve her energy. Making it to the sandbar after a while of determined freestyle, she stepped onto the sand and wrung out her clothes and hair. “It feels like it is missing something,” she spoke wistfully as she studied the columns Ana-Lie had created. “It needs a wreath to crown it.” Tags: Petra |

Character: Petra Date: March 13 Time: Sunrise Place: Petra's Sand Flat As she rested, AL noticed Callie on the shore. She was glad the other girl was coming towards her. The pink mutant was the only other person Petra had never seen shoes on. It made her feel better about her preference to be bare footed. Her cheeks flushed when Callie commented on her work. "Oh its not done yet. I have to take a break. It takes a lot out of me to move tons of material. I'm a lot better at this." She turned to one of the columns and focused on it. A vine and leaf pattern appeared in relief and snaked its way up the stone, adding to the elven feel of the structure. She continued that work as it took far less energy than raising the columns had. "Its going to have a covered room up there. I'll be my retreat when I need to... get away from people." AL stopped turned to Callie. "Oh sorry, that wasn't me telling you to go away or anything. I just, uh, have some problems being in crowds, especially around men. Ms. Scarlett is helping me work on that, but it's not going to be fixed any time soon." It surprised AL a little that she was opening up like that. It had been slow going to start with. Liz was great and AL definitely felt like she was a big sister, but that didn't inherently make it easier to talk to her about serious stuff, especially because she did seem a little full of herself. Talking to Scarlett had helped tremendously as she now had an outlet to channel all the baggage. She wanted to spend more time with Jean, but she was busy with being a doctor and Petra didn't want to interrupt that. She still needed to meet Lorna and talk about rocks, but that could wait because she was already making a new friend. "So what do you do? I mean with your mutation. I move rock, obviously." AL started fidgeting with the bangles on her arms. Tags: Dryad |

Character: Dryad Date: March 13 Time: Sunrise Place: Petra's Sand Flat Callie watched with interest as the familiar patterns of vines and leaves appeared on the stone, tracing each leaf in her mind as she thought over the meaning of the patterns on the stone. She was half tempted to see if she could manipulate the stone designs like she could with actual plants, but she doubted it. They didn’t have a single aspect in common with botanical examples so it was useless to try. Her hands rested by her side, a smile on her lips. “You have skill with that,” she observed softly. “They look so lifelike. What inspiration did you take it from?” Shaking out her long hair, she separated a few strands and twirled them around her fingers. “I am not offended,” she replied to the stone manipulator, turning her bright eyes on the younger girl. “I can understand trying to get away from people and I myself have my own little refuge. Sometimes the emotions of other people confuse me. I think your retreat will be a very fine one, when it is finished.” Turning her head to study the water as she heard something whisper to her, she dismissed the sensation and looked down at her feet for a few seconds to centre herself. How was it best to describe her power? “It is…complicated to explain,” she replied to AL. “There are many things I could do. I suppose the best way to explain it would be that…I have a psychic link with plants. They are like my children and so I can sense them everywhere. I can talk to them too, and ask them to do things for me. I would never force them to do anything, especially something that would do them harm. I can ask though, and they will often obey.” Raising a hand slightly, she curled her fingers. “I know things, too. Like the fact that there is a root system buried deep within the sand nearby. If I wanted to, I could pull the plants up from under the sand.” Tags: Petra |
