Welcome to NN Lost Stars! For those of you who are unaware the NN: Lost Stars series is a political, economic, and social simulator in which players create a star system based in the universe created throughout a series of novels. Do not worry: the reading of the novels is not vital to playing the game and the majority of players have not read the novels. The Lost Stars Universe: The Universe of the Lost Stars is set in the years following the end of a 100 year-long war that encompassed the known universe. The two sides in this war: the Alliance and the Syndicate Worlds; both where too big to be destroyed in anything less than a century of war. Finally the war was brought to an end and the Syndicate Worlds began to collapse. NN: Lost Stars players play the governments of Syndicate Star Systems in the waning days of the Syndicate Empire following the end of the war. Players decide whether to attempt to reforge their small part of the Syndicate Worlds back into a powerful force, or rebel and become independent: carving their own path in space. The only known way to travel "Faster than Light" is through what is known as "Jump Space". This can only be accessed by certain areas of space within a Star System and the ship can only travel to a system within range of the jump point: just ensuring that ships are required to pass through various systems to reach their intended destination: meaning travel time could be weeks to months in duration; and allowing for defense forces a point in the system to defend. In Systems the movement of spaceships takes place at appreciable fractions of the speed of light, with standard movement of freighters being 0.05 Light Speed, and warships being 0.10 Light Speed. Because of the laws of physics light can only travel so fast, and there are no faster than light sensors or communications. In game this most heavily effects players in that there is no way to talk with another star system without physically sending a courier carrying a message to that star system. The Syndicate Worlds: The Syndicate Worlds was up until recently a dominant force in the galaxy, alongside the Alliance. Formed by various corporations who fled old Terra and the old colonies in search of freedom from regulations and Terran laws, the Syndicate Worlds developed into a Corporate-run and Corporate-centrist state. Even the government is set up and run in the style of a corporation. The highest rank that can be obtained is that of CEO, with many ranks below that: including Sub-CEO, Executive, Sub-Executive, and then the more menial jobs: Supervisors and Line Workers. The Syndicate Worlds was infamously known for its oppression and draconian-styled laws, becoming much like a totalitarian state even before the long war with the Alliance. That war only caused the situation to become worse; but fear of retribution and, specifically, the ISS stopped most open rebellion. However, while the Internal Security Service, called Snakes behind their backs, remain powerful the loss of the war has seen the destruction of the Syndicate Worlds military and has reduced their ability to openly destroy rebelling worlds. Will you work to make the Syndicate Worlds a great power once again? Or will you take this as your chance to shine and force out an independent faction of your own? Syndicate Worlds Government/Military Rank Structure Creating a System: The player will be asked, when applying, to provide a brief history of their system in its time during the war as a Syndicate Worlds star system. The more detailed the history the better the Moderator Team will be able to develop the statistics for your star system: creating a living and breathing universe for you to interact with and rule in. A good description size would be between three and five paragraphs: as that will give the moderators enough information to get a start off of. Within the Syndicate Worlds there are four classifications of star systems, each representing a different level of economic development and importance within the Syndicate Worlds. These are: First Rate, Second Rate, Third Rate, and Backwater systems. A First Rate star system is a center of trade and power within the Syndicate Worlds: with the largest economies, populations, and defense forces. Usually these are the home of a hyper-net gate: a form of FTL travel that allows ships to travel between two gates in a relatively short period of time. Second Rate systems are similarly important, though not as prosperous and are not home to hyper-net gates. Third Rate star systems are what most of the players will be playing as: these are the most common type of system. Smaller and weaker than the powerful First Rate and Second Rate systems; they still have plenty of room for growth and ample ability to become important in their own rights. The last are Backwater systems. These are not normally played systems except per special request. They are insignificant and, sometimes, partially abandoned due to lack of resources, distance from trade lanes, or a myriad of other reasons. Edited by Bobithy, Feb 6 2018, 09:41 PM.
