Greetings! As we gather for this years World Fair I look forward to joining in the spirit of culture and tradition, sharing those of our own whilst also exploring both those found across NationStates and of our real lives. The foundation of any region is its community and the mortar which binds that community together is made of culture and tradition. These are not things which can be arbitrarily set by a founder or even a small cartel of individuals; it is the community as a whole which is responsible for the establishment of a vibrant cultural identity. Having looked back upon my experiences with the Order, especially in our first year, I've had the pleasure of engaging with many individuals as we brought our own additions to our cultural identity. It has truly been an amazing experience, and I can honestly say that my time on the Order's forums, and on IRC, have been wonderful and rewarding experiences. Whether it's a discussion of current happenings, debating about historical events or collaborating on new role-play ideas we have engaged in an exchange of ideas and information which has collectively enriched our shared culture. One way which our community has expressed itself is through a diverse and engaging role-play. I have read of entire civilizations, religions, myths, indeed entire worlds which draw me to read each time a new installment is posted. I have read some of the most immersive stories and, many times, have been truly invested in the future of the characters involved. While I'm sure that all of us here can say the same for our individual communities each one is unique, our experiences and the events which brought us to where we are now, and without the unique pieces which came together our experiences would be very much different. The theme 'Culture and Tradition' touches all of us on several levels, as it is the expression of our cultural identities which we share with those around us on a daily basis. Whether it is on a real-life level or a NationStates level is largely irrelevant, as both identities are just as much a part of us as the other. Let us celebrate these identities with our friends, region-mates and the larger NationStates community, make new memories together and honour past traditions while forging new ones as well. I look forward to sharing, and experiencing, the wide spectrum of cultures and traditions presented before us for this World Fair. On behalf of the Order I wish everyone a fun and culturally expansive experience. ^^ |
