I hear rumors that you have helped fix TNP's Constitution. How on earth? |

My advice to a new player would be... "join TNP!" More seriously though, it would be to not be afraid of jumping in and getting your feet wet. Everything in this game is learned by a combination of observation and experimentation, but I think newer players sometimes get caught up in the mindset of "I'll NEVER be as good an X as Y is, so I won't run for it." That's crazy! As long as you can dedicate the time and the energy, all positions are doable. To a recently elected delegate of a GCR, I would say, "I'm so sorry. Welcome to the club. The screaming room is that way, and the padded chambers down the hall." To a recently elected delegate of a UCR, I would say "Congratulations!". ![]()
![]() Well, I wouldn't say it's totally fixed yet, but it's definitely made a ton of progress. The Legal Code has as well, but I'd say there are more things in there that are on my to do list. As for the how? Cabals and cliques, of course! ![]() I kid, but that's kind of the real answer. During the time when most of the reforms were passed, there was a small core group of TNPers who were dedicated to effecting change. COE, r3n, and I were the three most central members, and it was very rare for a major piece of legislation to come up that did not have all three of our fingers on it - and unheard of for none of us to have helped draft it. I think the factors that made this work well are fourfold: first, we all had a strong interest in legislating and writing laws, and were happy to jump into a draft and muck it up. Fresh eyes can catch typos, loopholes, and other issues with a law that you might miss if you're the only one who's seen it. Two, the three of us tend to be in alignment on most major issues, and when we're not, we can usually argue it out all around until there's a consensus. I was not on board with r3n's major citizenship reform at first, but after talking it over a lot (both online and in person), he finally got me on board. Three, all of us were at the time (and still are, though to a lesser extent), both well-respected and well-connected within TNP's community. Together, we had the capability to swing basically any vote, simply by reaching out to people and talking to them for a while. And fourth, of course, is that we're pretty good RL friends. That definitely helps with the plotting.

I once sacrificed a baby rattlesnake to Satan and that was my reward.

I'm not sure I want to go into the gory details.
