erm...can we try to spare them from sch? lol

mmm can u tell me wats there at haji lane? haha im a failed singaporean >_< oshiete kure~~

i been to haji lane twice.
the shops there sell clothes designed by local designers. their concept is somewhat similar to those shops u may see in japan back alley streets.

not all shops are opened most of the times, i think it depends on your luck.

and people who usually walk there(at least those i saw) have above average fashion sense.

I'm so bored nowadays. There's no nice scenic spots to take a nice breather. Bukit Timah Reserve? Ack... I'd prefer the huge breath-taking lakes in Japan around Hakone area, and of cos' Mt Fuji.

As fer shopping, it's either Bugis, City Hall or Orchard (zzz). I seldom haf a craving to visit these places nowadays unless my fren badly wants to shop wif an objective in mind.

Entertainment? Our best amusement park now is Escape... Nuff' said...

As someone mentioned above, I'd suggest waiting till the Sentosa IR is up and running, wif Universal Studios and casino to keep them entertained.

But one thing gd is tt our makan places haf a great variety, so I'd probably bring my foreign frenz ard SG to eat gd stuff. :)

"As someone mentioned above, I'd suggest waiting till the Sentosa IR is up and running, wif Universal Studios and casino to keep them entertained. "

Hmm, you sound like the IR won't be a big disappointment? I have a feeling it will be, given that more focus will be given to attract tourists rather than locals.

I'm hoping for some really bigger amusement park than Escape...argh.

Like u said mah, it'll focus more on the tourists, so as long as the tourists luv it, who cares wad does the locals like us tink of it? Haha...

If u luv theme parks, Universal Studios gonna be great. I liked it better than Disneyland cos' the rides are more adult-oriented, rather than cartoony mild rides offered in Disneyland.

But then by the time it's rdy, I doubt I'll haf tt much enthusiasm as b4...

As fer now, the nearest quick fix would be at Hong Kong's Disneyland.

Heh, the ppl there have above average fashion sense. blinkblink. I personally don't think the stuff at haji lane is all that interesting. But the place is a quaint corner with some nice cafes, also can go there smoke shesha (don't know if I spelt that right) Look out for the hei1 dian4.

Ann siang hill is similar to haji lane. It sells upmarket clothes from elective overseas brands. Prices not for the faint-hearted.
E.g. the asylum - http://www.theasylum.com.sg/corp/ (the website is rather amusing)
It also has a number of interesting bars, a cinema (or rather a place where u can watch movies with your meals).

Eh, I can't really stand it when ppl compare sg to other places when there is no point complaining (not to say that you can't complain about stuff that is worth complaining - ie can be changed in the future). Singapore is flat and will always remain flat. (Feelings bred mostly after reading this ridiculous article in Today newspaper that extolled the virtues of staying in Japan. While it was supposed to be comparative, there really is nothing to compare btw a place that has 4 seasons and is x times bigger than sg... it read more like an advertisement for us singaporeans to move en mass to japan) That said if you do want to climb mountains/scenic spots they're a few hours away - in malaysia.

Before you think that as long as the tourist is happy ..won't it benefit you as well? I honestly think that marina will look great once it is completed. If you're not interested in the casinos there are now sea sports and shopping malls which surely can't survive on the tourist dollar alone.

Sorry for the overly long post.
Btw, I think timbre is a good place to go. Has live music. Also, anyone know about the Jurong fishery? Can go there for fishing/buying prawns ...at 12am

Haha dun scold me leh... :( I very sad... Lol! But aiya, I noe we can't compare SG to Japan liddat, but it's true to an extent, cos' I tink the govt isn't making enuff effort to appeal to the locals, but the emphasis is quite heavy on tourists.

Fer all those tourist attractions, such as the temples at Chinatown, Mandai Zoo, Jurong Birdpark etc, how many eager locals do u see in those places, wif the exception of schoolchildren on excursions, parents being pestered by their kids to bring them to the zoo?

In Japan, it's not uncommon to see locals actually outnumbering the tourists! It's quite heartwarming to see tt the govt emphasises on national heritage and the ppl reciprocates by showing genuine interest. Juz feel tt SG tourist attractions shld consider the local factor as well.

But while some ppl are skeptical of the IR, I'm all fer the IR. But it's probably cos' juz fer Universal Studios. :) I'm a big fan of theme parks! The casino would do good to Singapore's economy, but I shudder to tink of the possibility of locals indulging in tis bad addiction and could result in certain social prbs...

I think it's because our domestic market is too small, while the Japanese can travel to different parts of Japan for vacations besides going overseas. I remember while chatting with a China classmate about SG's tourism campaigns I said something along the lines of "oh, that campaign is mainly focused in China, our domestic market is too small".

So ironically, it may be easier to get tourism publicity material overseas rather than here.

Haji Lane is near Arab Street! It's like, rows (okay, maybe one row but I just lump them into one Lane) of different kinds of shops from shisha places, fabric shops, yuppie clothes shops etcetc

It's quite an interesting collection of shops they have there and it's really nice to just walk around and take a lot. The shops there have a lot of character. Plus, there's a "thrift" clothing store that apparently imports clothes from Japan? O:

Ha... I totally agree with u that universal studio is way more fun than Disney. It's really more for adults than kids.

I guess universal studios SG will be a different experience for tourists compared to the one in Osaka. For one very obvious difference... the weather! Hahaz... if UniStudios Singapore is going to be constructed in the same manner as the one in Osaka, with lanes mimicking those in European towns, can you imagine yourself walking along those lanes in Singapore's weather?

Anyway, I'm thinking that they'll have problem ensuring that the themepark won't operate at a loss. Cos, looking at the themeparks in Japan, it seems that its the locals who are fueling their revenue rather than tourists. For sure, the first year upon it's opening will generate in huge bucks. But eh, I dun think the situation will continue after a couple of years.

I am not trying to curse lar, but ha, better visit the place as soon as possible once it's open. Before it closes down.

Then again, its still going to be a place that you can visit with friends without going overseas.

Singapore is a good place to live in lar. You can't complain, really. It's like way better than her neighbouring countries. She has her good points too. Just that I'll have to sit down properly to generate the list of why-i-think-singapore-is-a-gd-place-to-live-in out.

Yeah, Singapore is far better to stay than our neighbouring countries. But I tink we tend to take our country fer granted cos' we haf stayed here fer our entire lives and did every single possible thing tt can be done, so we might be lamenting frm time to time.

The IR is such a big project, I really hope it'll not fail. Not tt gd in terms of finances and reputation. I was really pleasantly surprised when I learnt tt Universal Studios is in development. I thot it's a prank set by tabloid writers fer the New Paper. Lol. :P

I'll definitely try my best to support, depending on the rates. As long as it's not tt expensive, I'll try to visit it every quarterly. :)

Hahaz... u noe, I was thinking how much they'll charge after i posted the previous post.

The passport to Tokyo Disneyland was around 77 bucks SGD. I was thinking perhaps Universal Studio Singapore will charge around 60 bucks.

We shall see in 2010. ;)
