I dunno if any of you will be able to find this place. But near the Gion bus stop when you go to kyoto, there is a Sukiyaki buffet place. Eat all you can for 1900++ yen. It's a good deal. Pay another 300 yen and you get your own tatami mat room.

I was there last dec and had sukiyaki and shabu shabu mixed pot buffet. less than 2500yen after taxes n stuff. Well worth it if you want to have a good dinner with lots of friends. I had christmas dinner in winter there. Amazing place.

If I remember correctly, it's called Gyuzen. :D

Paiseh... I personally think my post count went down for the past few months so I don't really think myself active.

There's this really good (and value for money) place in Gion where I always go when I'm in Kyoto.

It's called Oishinbo (http://www.kyoto-oishinbo.com/) and while it's on the slightly pricey side (it's a sit-down restaurant afterall), I think the food's great! It has a really nice atmosphere - I've never been down at the first floor before, but the second floor seats are quite nice! Not so formal that you have to keep your voice down and worry about etiquette and stuff. It's a bit like an izakaya! More worth it if you go in a group! :)
