MXF is a very professional format which can enable the picture of recordings stay clear after dozens of times magnification. And MXF format is adopted by many professional camcorders like Panasonic AG-HPX170, which take MXF footage in 1080/60p quality. Sometimes we need to work with AG-HPX170 P2 MXF footage to polish them in Premiere Pro CC. However, we maybe run into the problem that Premiere Pro CC on Mac glitches screen or crashes suddenly, just like the picture below.

MXF is only a container format, on the face of it, we don’t know what codec video is in it. From Adobe Official Website, we can know which codec MXF footage Premiere Pro supports for.

Panasonic Op-Atom variant of MXF video in DV, DVCPRO, DVCPRO 50, DVCPRO HD, AVC-Intra
XDCAM HD Movie
Sony XDCAM HD 50 (4:2:2)
Avid MXF Movie
Native Canon XF

Maybe that’s because the type of your MXF footage isn’t in the list. If your Mac is fast enough to do professional editing work, I find one way to fix the problem now. Install Final Cut Pro (which I never use) BUT Final Cut has something that makes your Mac readable to anything visually and makes Premiere feel comfortable I think. It’s weird, right?

In the following part, I prepared another solution for you to solve the goddamn blurred screen problem. Use a third-party MXF converter to transcode AG-HPX170 P2 MXF footage to MPEG-2 format which is the most suitable video format for Premiere Pro CC. Here I recommend a professional MXF converter for you - Pavtube iMixMXF(Review). This program can not only convert AG-HPX170 P2 MXF footage to MPEG-2, but also support for adjusting specific parameters in it.

The most amazing feature about this software is it is able to output multiple audio tracks, so that you can keep every audio channel with Panasonic AG-HPX170 MXF footage. This is an outstanding feature. You can choose eight multi-track output formats, Multi-track MKV, Multi-track MP4, and Multi-track MOV and 5 multi-track MOV output formats with Apple ProRes Codecs for FCP X. Apple ProRes Codecs under FCP category cannot keep multi tracks. In addition to this, it also supports for transforming 2D MXF videos to 3D formats in MKV/MP4/MOV/WMV/AVI with Side-by-Side, Top-Bottom, or Anaglyph 3D effect.

Tips:
Please note that currently you can't edit Panasonic AG-HPX170 MXF video if choosing multi-track output formats. In the Multi-track Settings window, you can choose which audio track to output, and specify what codec you'd like to encode with. To mix the multiple audio tracks into one, you can check Mix into one track potion and confirm.
