Can't wait! Do you know if they are sticking to the same format? I would love to see longer episodes. |

Give it some time. People need to know it exists and then slowly make the transition over. I remember it being that way when The Castle first started. Most people were posting in the Nathan thread at the time. Con Man actually isn't the type of show I'd watch, and admittedly I only watched the first 2 (or was it 3?) episodes they had up mostly because I was watching it for Nathan. It was okay, and I felt that the humor was a bit hit or miss at times. One thing I did like was how enthusiastic all the actors were for the project. I'd never heard of Nolan North until Con Man and I loved his character. |

Hi Guys, Thanks Snickers for starting the board. Glad to have another place to chat that is not Crazy Town. I think that board attracted some of the worst in the fandom due to its anon nature. But those are long time hardcore haters and not so anon really since they post the same thing everywhere. Honestly, I've had it up to here with those trolls and basically the whole section of fandom who are incapable of being disrespectful to fellow human beings including the actors. That's been going on for a long time in the fandom, just at its worst now. The problem is, there's no point trying to reason with people who aren't open to reason and logic. It's all emotional, not rational. The kind of stuff that's been said about NF, and that people tweet to him, are so far over the line. Who knew people could be so ugly?! Don't know how celebrities deal with that. If it were me, I wouldn't want to read my mentions or just be on a blocking spree. Rant over. I decided to go with Cosmo rather than Tightpants. |

Hey. I'm here too. As someone who's been on The Castle from the start, I would agree. It was a long process. I was active there from the start because I just found at the time the previous (even nastier) Castle (Stana) board on LChat, and as I was mainly interested in the NF discussion, I almost dropped it at once, but saw the link to The Castle (with only Nathan board active), and moved there. People were slow on the uptake, and mercifully at first there were mainly NF fans or people who at least didn't hate his guts :). Then it went the usual way, when the rabid stanatic faction moved there. Hopefully this board will find its intended audience.
North is a legend among gamers, a voicework god, lol. He doesn't work much as a 'physical' actor, but videogame voicework is his bitch, he's pretty much everywhere and id the most sought out voice actor in that field. |

Yeah. I found The Castle because I'd been on the LChat earlier. The Nathan thread was doing okay in the beginning, mostly because Nathan fans immediately jumped there and the Stana fans stuck to the LChat board until the mods there shut it down. Ah, well. While I do like video games, I suck at playing. I didn't know North was in Assassin's Creed! Love that game. I'm trying to watch a playthrough of Uncharted. I wonder why everyone thinks Nathan looks like Nathan Drake. I can see some similarities, but not really.

I think I read somewhere that at the start of the franchise one of the creators said that ND was based on Mal or something. Plus the name Nathan. IDK if it's a self-taught, self-propagating urban myth or not (like the Green Lantern thing), since I read about several characters/real people ND was presumably based on. But it seems to be a very persistent myth among the fans of the game. I know for sure that Handsome Jack in Borderlands was based partly on NF, heard the creator's interview myself where he said that he took a shine to NF's "persona" in the Kimmel show from I think 2010, where he told the story about skin tags etc. My cousin loved the game and told me about that interview. The last few days I was puzzled about the repetitive mentioning of "idol" in the old Nathan thread. As non U.S. citizen, I sometimes have to fight, to get the relevance of certain words (urban dictionary is not always helpful). Of course, I know the meaning of "idol", but what I didn't get, was why it was used. By accident, I just read a tweet of KA, as a FANFILLION called tweeter had sent a love letter to KA. Now I can comprehend - 13 yo, fan of Castle and NF is her "idol". That explains a lot to me - kids do have idols. Hopefully, it's just a phase and they can overcome their pubertal rant on the old board. Obviously, I'm old. Never crossed my mind, that that young posters could flood the old board. smh But as an anon board, it's easy. You even don't need a mail adress. Edited by Helli, May 5 2016, 10:27 AM.

I'm not so sure that the haters or those who keep referencing idols are of such a tender age... a lot of the rude, immature tweets I've seen seem to come from older people, mothers with children, self proclaimed religious people even... and the crazier the tweets are, the more intense seems to be their relationship with their "idol". I don't like the word myself because it implies an uneven relationship and I'm uncomfortable with any form of worshiping, but if you look at the fandom, I would say there's a lot of worshiping or placing people on pedestals if you ask me. Maybe it's how those people really see their relationship with their fave actress, a form of idolization. |

Back to Nathan and bringing in a bit of the shallow. Nice shirt. I think he wore it on Castle location once in rehearsal with Stana. Nice hair. Nice scruff. Interesting looking mug.

I think it's a byproduct of not so much age, as of how many people who are on the simpleminded side, view the world at large. Black and white. That's why any reasoning against total hate in NF's direction is often met with the words 'your idol' and 'you think he can do no wrong and walks on water', they just project their own worldview on opponents. There ARE NF fans like that of course, but far from being the majority. Most fans I encounter see him as perfectly human, with acknowledged flaws, and actually more interesting and entertaining because of it. But this sort of people just can't see any shades and nuances like that, because they themselves either love or hate, see only absolute goodness or total evilness. So when they put NF on the 'bad' shelf, it stands to (their) reason that he should be evil through and through, to every little detail. And when others point out the ridiculousness and improbability of such a person even existing in the real world, let alone NF being this person, they conclude that others must see him as an 'idol' and 'saint'. The funniest thing about it is that diehards of this type are people who also enjoy painting NF as some simpleminded ignorant fratboy, whose nature is alien to art, culture at large or any intellectual activity and higher aspirations at all. All the while assuming that their natures are the opposite, when it's painfully obvious from the manner and matter of their posting, that for instance Shakespeare's moral and esthetic ambiguity would be completely lost on them, as well as irony or any humor at all. Such aggressively simplified way of thinking is often attributed to teenagers, due to their lack of life experience and emotional immaturity. But unfortunately it can be found in people of all ages, I've been gathering this data for thirty years already . And believe me, the longer I live the more I see that the number of people my age or older with this mindset hasn't diminished since my teen years. If anything, it grows, becomes more pronounced and aggressive in people with age.
