THE ANIMAL
WE'RE ALL A BUNCH OF ANIMALS

SPECIES: Chital (Spotted) Deer

OVERALL APPEARANCE: Not at all different from other axis fawns her age, she is long of leg and lithe. All across her back she’s spotted with white camouflage spots. Her belly and legs are a pale, pale cream to white, and her fluffy tail and rump are white, like all Chital deer.

DISTINGUISHING TRAITS: She often carries around a collar she puts around her neck in her cervid form to alert others in geis form or hunters that she is not a wild deer.

APPEARANCE
PAINT US A PICTURE

HAIR: Chestnut hair, a warm medium-brown with a hint of sandy or orange tones.

EYES: Dark graphite gray with warm hints of green and brown.

BUILD: Coltish still with a narrow wake.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES: A wide smile and her dark eyes.

OVERALL APPEARANCE: Renee is a solid, undeniable 4’11. Fifteen years of age and built as though she were still thirteen, the athleticism of her hobbies have shaped her into a lean girl. She has narrow thighs and narrow hips. Time, though, is catching up to her. Last year she saw the pubescent timeshift that left her reeling from the emotional roller coaster of growing from girl to woman- though to say she’s reached the latter is far from truth. Renee is still very much a child in her looks. She’s just as slight in the chestial region as she is in the pelvic.

She has warm hued grey eyes, so dark that from afar you’d assume they were solid, unrelenting brown. Thick, if not too entirely long, lashes feather her eyelids, remarkably dark in hue (much like her natural and unplucked eyebrows) suggesting that the light chestnut of her hair is lightened considerably from an active childhood spent outdoors. Honey colored hair on her arms and legs make her look…well…warm. Approachable. Friendly and welcoming and when coupled with her wide mouth pulled in a perpetual, daydreaming smile, others are drawn to her. Her white, straight teeth are a source of pride to her, after having suffered through the terror of braces as a younger girl. They feel “so smooth it’s weird”, and she’s always running her tongue over them. Elfish ears pierced with earrings hide behind her naturally smooth tendrils that darken considerably as the weather months settle in.

TYPICAL DRESS: She dresses in any manner of clothes, all the time. With a fickle fancy for clothes based on the day, hour, second, she can switch from plaid shorts to a polka dot frock, to a vested more business casual ensemble that greatly increases the appearance of her age. Her favorite type of clothes are frocks, followed closely by jeans and elaborately unconventional shirts (anything but the dreaded t-shirt!). Her shoe choices are just as varied as the rest of her clothing, but she’s by no means the type of girl to obsess over clothing. Sandals do well enough with a dress, although two weeks later the same dress may be accompanied by a pair of low, strappy heels. Jeans, it is of her solid opinion, accommodate any manner of shoe- which she takes advantage of with merciless indifference. As amusingly unconventional as she is, the girl is much more likely to conform than deviate from trends (that is not to say she’s a slave to fashion, though). She’s also becoming increasingly interested in makeup, and experimenting with it…to varying results (often overly done).

PERSONALITY
WHO ARE YOU?

Renee a dreamer. She gets gratification from living with her head in the clouds, imagining the possibilities of life, love, and the world at large. More so than most people. She is neither very charismatic nor particularly persuasive, and her parents describe her as being a very sweet, albeit ordinary girl with skinny arms, freckles, unrelenting naivety, and childish behavior (for better and worse). Despite, she is a magnetic girl without discriminations, and attracts those of various age and gender and Geis not because she is precocious or beautiful, but because she is the ideal combination of childishness and the first blushes of womanhood. She’s fun loving and innocent, friendly and sociable, natural and sincere.

Her ordinariness is a constant source of frustration for her professors, and she consistently thwarts their attempts to educate her on scholarly facts and make her more sophisticated. She adores popular culture, enjoys mingling freely with other people, and, like most recently-pubescent females, has a tendency toward the dramatic. Once she played the lead role in her school production of Hansel and Gretel. She knew all of her lines, and all of Hansel's too - and very much enjoyed the experience. It is her dream to become a famous movie star - a fantasy, but not altogether unattainable.

Thus far in her life, Renee sustains an almost complete lack of self-awareness. Her refusal to look too deeply within herself, and her tendency to look forward rather than backward is charming in and of itself because it is such a childish trait, but it’s vexing to those who think 15 years is the starting point to grow up. However, her Geis wears spots on its back even into adulthood, after maturing past the fawn stage in body, which physically personifies the innocent heart Renee lives with.

Renee wears her heart on her sleeve, displaying (sometimes to her own damnation) her hopes, dreams, desires, and wants. She’s not difficult to read.

Unconsciously, she puts all of her energy into a positive way of living and thinking (for herself and others), and urges those around her to do the same- like a single member in a herd trying to urge out a cohesive working unit. This ability also ties in with her deer vulnerability. Like many people, when she steps onto an unknown path she feels vulnerable. The caution granted to her by her Geis shows her that with awareness and skill she can be comfortable discovering and exploring the unknown. To Renee, life is an adventure waiting. Like a springing doe, she’s prepared to grasp it with both hands and a heart filled with anticipation and eagerness.

Her current hobbies include Learning to cook, dancing, theater. She’s afraid of spiders and burglars.

  • STRENGTHS: Renee has an incredible ability to make others happy. Reading people comes very easily to her, and she’s stellar at making connections and understanding people. She doesn’t like seeing people down and out, so she’s ever eager (when she notices others, for she’s very centered on the self at this age) to cheer people up when they are down. Renee takes people under her wing, and has a singularly interesting talent for accepting everybody. Geis, race, religion, age, and socio-economic status mean absolutely nothing to her when it comes to people. She likes them all equally. Adversely, she’s afraid of non-Geis individuals, though not outwardly prejudice. That being said, she avoids non-Geis humans at all costs. Despite that one variable, she’s very social and friendly which makes her a great people person, and she’s also a very harmonious person, which brings out the best in even the sourest of sour pusses.
  • WEAKNESSES: Renee is often far too trusting for her own good. She wears her heart on her sleeve and is prone to getting her feelings hurt because of this. She’s sensitive and tends to sulk when she doesn’t get her own way. She’s not proactive in making emends when there’s been an argument or fight, usually expecting the other party to make the first move. She doesn’t take her schooling seriously either and isn’t extraordinarily smart.

  • LIKES: Open spaces, the country, forests, stuffed animals, swimming, 50’s and pop music, canoes, white water rafting, the beach, laying in the sun, cool grass, tire swings, thunderstorms, nature trails, nature vacations, hiking, spontaneous games, being held, wearing men’s leather jackets, dinner dates in dim restaurants (or rather, the idea of them), cooking (or rather, attempting to), surprises and surprising people, parties, dancing, being read to, tickle fights, wrestling, taking walks, movie nights, corndogs, hair ribbons, Hollywood hunks, playing tag, tennis, basketball, watching football, movie villains, dolls, candy, ice cream, swings, sandals, frocks, frilly and colorful underwear, the color red and pink.
  • DISLIKES: Slow cars, the cold, cat breath, folk music, blues, lies, emotional detachment, being ignored, being left out, lack of privacy, being disliked, wet socks, running out of food (happens at home), burning her meals (this happens understandably often), being chased when she’s afraid, being startled, the dark, being trapped, wire, swiss cheese, exotic meats, politics, boring textbooks, holding fish, sharks, homeless people’s suffering, “adult behavior”, being told to clean her room.
HISTORY
HOW DID YOU GET HERE?

By the time Renee Devereux came into the world, the family was experiencing some trouble. Augustus and Sylvie Devereux had been married since High School, conceived a boy when they were newlyweds, and found that despite their strong love for one another, there was something missing in their lives. The adventure of youth was gone. Now strapped with a child, Augustus was hit the hardest of them both. He loved his son, and he loved his wife, but he didn’t have what his other high school friends were experiencing. He didn’t have freedom. He didn’t have the opportunities to gain that wild adventure most of his friends were “suffering” through. He (and Sylvie) tried to convince him that their son was enough- was an adventure in and of itself. And that worked for a while. For ten long years he “experienced the adventure” of fathering a son.

The cycle of marriage and children came for all of his high school friends as well, and with a little more enthusiasm Augustus took to his role as husband and father. But the damage had been done. Sylvie has spent a great deal of time wounded and pained over the distraction her husband had from his family. He envied so feverishly the free life and she felt abandoned, felt like she was going through this life they lived together alone, raising Dallas alone. She was strict against drinking, deeply allergic to a great many things, and too busy with her child to pursue any recreational clubs. Her only distraction was work. And at work she found people to distract her. Men to fill the hole Augustus was drilling in her heart and soul. The passionate woman found an outlet for her pain and frustration…but when Augustus turned his life around and decided to get more active in his role as husband, Sylvie, now pregnant with Renee, (and who was never very good about keeping secrets) was swiftly found out.

“Four lovers,” confirmed the private detective, “but thankfully the kiddo’s yours.” Augustus felt robbed. First, he’d suffered for years and years, wishing for the life he wasn’t saddled to, only to realize that all this time, all this time, Sylvie had been reaping the benefits he envied. His wife had been sleeping with other men. It was during this rocky time that Renee was born.

Five years later Sylvie disappeared without a word, taking more than was her fair share from the family account.

The event rocked the family. Augustus (who had never found a way to fully get over the infidelity of his wife, but who was making a conscious effort to do so) was absolutely devastated, mortified, and hurt that the right to leave was usurped and stolen by the very person who deserved it least of all. Renewed was the feeling of betrayal and renewed was the feeling that had been five years repressed.

Renee didn’t understand. She’d never been particularly close to her mother. She was a distracted, hard working woman. Not that Renee was neglected- she was perfectly content to spend time with her father, a sweet tempered draft horse who was never above letting her ride his back. But she missed the long nights getting her hair brushed, and the sweet smell of her mother’s perfume- the feminine touch and experience of having a mother around.

Before the family could recover from the blow, Dallas, then fifteen, started to do very poorly in school. His entire demeanor shifted. He no longer enjoyed talking to or playing with his father. He singled out Renee to spend time with her, and he often spent the whole of it in his Geis form, a red fox. It was revealed to her that he was sad. This wasn’t entirely accurate. Dallas was depressed. Depressed from the loss of his mother, the fragility of the family ecosystem that he’d been living with all of his life, and the discovery of his homosexuality. These hopeless feelings turned alarmingly serious after discovering he’d received failing marks in five classes and was reprimanded by their father.

Dallas attempted to strangle himself in Renee’s closet when she was at a slumber party with friends.

When Renee returned home, it was to find her father in a state of numb, almost catatonic shock and an elderly, batty looking woman she’d only met once in her life. Her grandmother.

The arrival of her grandmother in her life turned the girl’s structure free existence into a strangely rigid one. She moved from sunny Los Angeles to scenic Saxis (where there was snow!) to live in the small home of her grandma, Sybil Devereux. She discovered her Geis at 7 years old.

The woman detested men, had a fear of them that led her to hate and mistrust every single one of them with the exception of her precious son and grandson. For reasons never revealed to Renee (who didn’t mind anyway, because she was now in a place where she could have a lot of sweets and got a lot of toys and a lot of love and attention) boys were not allowed on the property, and she was not allowed to socialize with males whatsoever if it could be helped. She was sent to an all girls boarding school (a place that she absolutely adores) and spent her summers playing on all girls sports teams and living a boy-free, exciting life full of summer vacations to scenic (and expensive) resorts.

However, a recent event has changed things for, perhaps, the better. Sybil has gotten married. The man, a roaring young gentlemen who moved in next door some four years ago, kindled a romance with the stone-hearted woman…and more importantly, restored her faith in men.

Renee is now poised to join Saxis High School as an incoming freshman. She has also been told that she’s finally allowed to visit her brother in the psychiatric hospital he was sent to on the day she left her home.
