THE ANIMAL

WE'RE ALL A BUNCH OF ANIMALS SPECIES: Borzoi
OVERALL APPEARANCE: He is a very typical Borzoi; with a long, wavy haired coat and a dense undercoat that grows thick in the winter and sheds in the summer. His head is small in comparison to the rest of his body, as is typical, with a very long snout that comprises most of the skull. He has large, deep eyes, folded ears, a deep chest, and a long tail with a slow curve at the tip, like a fish hook. His legs are long and slim and end in long toed feet that look like hare feet, less like dog paws. DISTINGUISHING TRAITS: Naturally coming in many shades, his distinguishing characteristic is his coat color. He is predominately white with warm silver-gray markings on his face and sides making up about 5% of his overall body color. He is a great deal leaner than average borzois.

PAINT US A PICTURE
HAIR: Sable brown and thick
EYES: Minky brown.
BUILD: Lean and tough.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES: Despite his masculine features, his piercing eyes are framed by lush eyelashes. He has ‘sad’, deep set eyes. His roman nose. His numerous freckles.
OVERALL APPEARANCE: Lean. Not fleshy or fat, thin. The sight of him would imply that he’s both strong and athletic. Standing at a somewhat loft 6’, he’s no small fry and has a musculature that is more defined than the streamlined muscles of a male dancer but nowhere near as bulky as those of a weight-lifter. Additionally, Leo is quite tough. Strong and resilient, he is able to withstand great strain without tearing or breaking. Physically hardy, he can be loosely described as rugged – though he’s never really been called that before. He has great endurance and his body shows that- a compact body of a generous amount of muscle but very little of it is sculpted or toned.
His face is aristocratic, poetic, and beaky. His nose is usually the first thing people notice about him as it is quite sizable. Much longer than most, it has a severe convex bend in the bridge leading to an eagle beak type curve. The length of his nose makes him look both exotic and aristocratic, yet despite how favorably his nose graces his features, he is no stranger to nose jokes or being identified as “that guy with the nose”.
Broad and prominent cheekbones give him a strong, exotic look. He has an oval shaped face, a short forehead that is often hidden beneath his very thick mop of hair. The thick and wavy front-heavy style of his hair often leads the sable locks to fall into his eyes and obscure the strong plane of his brow. The hair is actually quite soft which often comes as a surprise to those who touch it; his masculine face making girls assume his hair is coarser.
His upper lip is thin with a deep ‘v’ shape and a very well defined ridge giving him a spectacular cupid’s bow. His mouth is distinctly feminine in that it’s very well shaped and ridged. His lower lip is also thin, but the curvature of his mouth forms an almost serpentine like line even when he has no expression, making him look either sad or coquettish, depending on the viewer.
TYPICAL DRESS: He is a big fan of sweaters and coats. He likes to also wear vests and button down shirts that are more dressy than casual. He likes to dress well and is very aware of what looks good on him. Leo also really likes to layer his clothes. He is not a fan of anything that does not button down the front (though that doesn’t mean he’s sworn off these things). He wears any manner of pants, provided they are long. He doesn’t like the ‘unkempt’ and ‘bummish’ look of shorts. Typically wearing grays and unsaturated colors, it’s very uncommon to see him dressed in bright or vivid hues.

PERSONALITY
---
WHO ARE YOU?
Leo’s personality is best described as though one were talking of his Geis. He’s almost like a hidden treasure; unnoticed in the background of more boisterous or gregarious breeds(because he wants to be), but captivating when spotted –or in this case, talked to. He has a refined, sophisticated air about him that is seldom lacking in confidence with a lazy grace and energy. It doesn’t take much effort for him to ‘be himself’. He doesn’t put on any masks or faces when in public, and whatever mask he does wear it has long ago become a part of who he is and who he operates. Therefore, he doesn’t have to brace or prepare himself before entering large groups.
In mentioning the mask, though, it needs to be said that Leo does indeed have things to hide and things he doesn’t share. He is extremely secretive about his own emotions, sharing very little with people and preferring to isolate those secrets and feelings from anyone but himself. Because of this, he doesn’t truly connect well with people on an emotional level in any and all relationships. He’s a good friend, but never has he really gotten close enough to invest enough emotions. He’s not a best friend type. As a result, it can be very hard to get to know him, and extremely tedious to peel back the layers of his personality and truly get to know him. It takes a tenacious and patient individual to do it, and none he has known have ever invested the time.
Not that it bothers him much. As much as he likes herds of people, he’s perfectly fine being alone as well. He doesn’t seek isolation whatsoever, but settles into it when the situation presents itself. Neither crowds nor solitude frighten or intimidate him.
He doesn’t have that great of a sense of humor on a surface level. It is quirky and it is uniquely individualized to the point that only those that know him can really understand or appreciate his sense of humor. His best jokes are inside jokes, and typically that’s the only kind of joke he can tell effectively. He likes laughing, though this doesn’t always show externally as he’s not a loud laugher. At times it can appear like he simply doesn’t enjoy laughing or never laughs at all –frequently Leo’s smile is the equivalent of a long and loud chuckle.
Brave and fearless, Leo has the mental capability and will to fight fires, chase down purse snatchers, and work to protect those around him. He rarely panics, even in emergencies. Because of his bravery, he has little trouble asking superiors for raises and usually has good luck in getting them.
Leo is emotionally self-mutilating. When he discovers or becomes aware of a particular trait of his that he doesn’t like, he immediately seeks to destroy it. However, killing a little bit of yourself is never an easy thing to do- we’re not talking habits here, we’re talking traits, aspects of the soul. Despite the near impossible endeavors to figuratively sever that which he finds repulsive about himself, he is relentless and will go to great personal lengths to disunite that part of himself. It is often this tortured air that college women (his peers) find most appealing.
- STRENGTHS: He is exceedingly brave and quite tenacious. He’s smart in the book-wise sense of the word. Academically, he is in the higher bracket of intelligence among his peers. He is quite a gracious individual, and very independent, as his Geis would suggest. Additionally, Leo is a good thinker and despite having a clear sense of what is his and what isn’t, he’s not very territorial. Leo is very disciplined as well, setting to a task and seeing it through to the end- which simultaneously makes him quite dependable. He is multi-lingual and can speak English, German, Italian, and French.
- WEAKNESSES: He is not good about addressing his emotional turmoil. While good at recognizing his feelings, he seldom deals with them and locks them deep in his chest to ignore and fester. He doesn’t open up to anybody (not even the few therapists he’s seen-he actually often lies to them and then chastises their ineptitude to help him solve his problems). Leo also has issues with acceptance; if he finds someone has a trait he doesn’t like or agree with he can be insufferably cold and rarely, if ever, gives people second chances. He’s tremendously bad about learning from his past mistakes –far too busy with looking ahead whilst living in the present. Because of his independent nature, he can now and then be difficult to relate to and, often times, excludes feelings from his decisions. He can be boring, quiet, reclusive, and even sullen at times.
- LIKES: Books, driving his convertible with the top down, psychology books, virology, journals, calligraphy and architectural designs, painting, scrolls, paper, paper products, the party aisle in craft stores, coats and jackets, snow, sex, taboo subjects, reaction faces, detailed behavioral studies, snakes, scorpions, deviant photography, art teachers and students, violins, bubble baths, philosophers, cellos, food, teaching and tutoring, writing, poisons and toxicology, oldies, classical, and swing music, cigarettes, couches and comfortable places to sit and lay.
- DISLIKES: Bright colors, childish behavior, drugs, things with too much wiring, children, water, chemicals, crowded “lower/middle class” bars, pop, rock, and metal music, jewelry, frivolous spending, religion, “eclectic” people, germaphobes, germs, meat loaf, lasagna, cartoons, jam, pixie cuts, flavorless gum, muzzles or face-gear of any kind.

HISTORY
---
HOW DID YOU GET HERE?
Leo was born to the upper class elite. His father wasn’t home much, always working to pay the bills of the large home as an art collector (often travelling far and wide to acquire, sell, and offer his field expertise), and his mother was a no-nonsense woman who never stayed late a work, but instead brought it home- both came from old money and both lived comfortably. As a result, Leo and his older brother Alderic, grew up never lacking in the wants and needs department. Leo formed a deeper relationship with his father, whereas Alderic was much more his mother’s son. However, due to his parent’s long and busy schedules, they spent a great deal of time with the nanny, a middle aged woman who had two grown up boys of her own. They terrorized her, but she’d dealt with it before and firmly taught them that women are to be respected. In later years it was Leo, not Alderic, who retained this information best.
When Leo was nine he discovered his geis. While at the zoo with his family (one of the rare times all four of them went anywhere together), in the petting zoo, feeling the excitement of bottle feeding a baby cow, Leo slipped into the excitable form of a gangly-legged borzoi puppy. His brother, in order to ease the stress of a first time shift that came moments after Leo realized he was suddenly a dog, shifted into his own geis (which he had discovered two years prior), a frigatebird. Their parents were quick to take them home and get Leo sorted out in a comfortable environment.
The boys spent a great deal of time together and as a result grew quite close. Wherever Alderic was, Leo was sure to be there, if one was getting in trouble so was the other. It was a typical brotherly relationship and they grew up happy and without much conflict. Until their teenage years, that is.
Leo developed into the more reserved of the two, finding little enjoyment out of the party scene his brother reveled in. He abhorred the brainless lack of sophistication that came with youth parties, but participated as much as any young man should. Despite this clashing of likes and dislikes, the two still got along famously. But age truly was turning the two boys into their own separate individuals. They were becoming men, and both were polar opposites of one another.
Leo was sent to a private boarding school where his true brilliance began to show. Alderic, on the other hand, detested the change of scenery. He begged to go to public school again, eventually doing so poorly in his classes that his parents had no choice but to pull him out and put him in public school. Leo remained for two years at the boarding school before his parents thought it a good idea to let him get a taste for the socio-economic diversity of Delaware. This move was, while not particularly exciting for Leo, an important event. It was in public high school that he lost his virginity, found he hated drugs through experimentation, got drunk for the first time, learned the importance of condoms and buckling a seat belt, and that money can’t buy happiness.
High school was, as it is with some kids, an experience he loathed while in school and missed when out of it. He graduated near the top of his class along with Alderic (who had been held back a year), and the boys were quite a popular duo among their classmates. Popularity, of course, suited Alderic more than it did Leo.
Immediately following graduation, Leo was accepted to Martingale College in Saxis, California. His first year in college could be termed as a catastrophic disaster. Despite being brilliant and sharp witted, the soft skinned young man wasn’t ready for the life of dorm rooms, frat boys, parties, and early morning classes. Most classes he spent hungover, and at night he would get lured into the campus party scene where girls fell, bloodripe, into his lap. Far from the type to avoid girls, Leo took full advantage of this happy coincidence, and the fact his “tortured artist” look was like a magnet to those college females.
Alderic came along the next year, and by this time Leo had a firm grasp on what parties to attend, where the best parties were held, and how to stay on top of his schoolwork all while having a good time. Alderic didn’t come to learn. He was happy mooching, hated the idea of work, and for the most part their mother encouraged his dream of staying at home and inheriting the house and family riches. He was the Delaware elite playboy in the making “experiencing” college just for the stories he could tell at the caviar parties back home. His womanizing started almost at once. He sought Leo out, preferring the loud and obnoxious partied in dingy bars and dirty frat houses to the slightly more refined scene where Leo found his women and booze. It took little time for people to start commenting on Alderic AND Leo’s womanizing tendancies (though to say Leo’s frequent philandering was anywhere near to Alderic’s debauchery is like comparing apples to oranges).
Leo is often called at 3 AM to come pick up his older brother from parties, or called at midnight to come join parties. Once or twice he’s woken up with his brother in very strange locations with no evidence of how they got there, and he’s firmly convinced that Alderic has drugged him on one or two occasions to get him to ‘lighten up’. To this day Alderic remains an embarrassing smear on Leo’s lofty-goaled college experience. He doesn’t mention his brother, and seldom parties anymore – preferring what is known as “social drinking” in much calmer settings.
