THE ANIMAL

WE'RE ALL A BUNCH OF ANIMALS SPECIES: Ermine
OVERALL APPEARANCE: A tiny brown and white weasel with big fat eyes, and an accusatory expression.
DISTINGUISHING TRAITS: She’s a glaring weasel.

APPEARANCE
---
PAINT US A PICTURE
HAIR: It’s black and touches her shoulders, but she usually has it pulled up to keep it out of her head gear.
EYES: Wide, shocked blue. She wears big, obnoxious glasses.
BUILD: Autumn is long and gangly, but built well. She has wide thighs and long legs, but for the most part the rest of her remains flat and pretty much shapeless.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES: She wears braces and glasses, and pretty much the most ridiculous, cruel piece of dental headgear ever known to exist. She also insists on wearing overall shorts – you know, those abominations, a mix between a pair of bib overalls and shorts. Yeah, she really likes those, and brightly colored sweaters, and croc shoes and knee high, multi-colored socks.
OVERALL APPEARANCE: Autumn is in that horrifyingly awkward stage between girl and woman. She still has an obnoxiously flat quality to her body, and her chosen style of dress does not help matters but her legs have started to take on less of a coltish look and more of an adult woman quality. They’re long, and she’s got thick knees and thighs, with slender un-toned calves. She wears shorts a lot, so they’re always on display, and despite how often she wears shorts she never, ever, ever shows up tan.
She has a pretty, feminine face with wide blue eyes that always make her look as though she’s been surprised but she hides them behind an obnoxious pair of thick rimmed glasses that make them look ever larger. Her hair is long and black, pulled back most of the time out of a necessity to keep it from getting tangled up in the dental abomination she wears.
She has a wide range of expression with her face, and has not yet learned what is and what is not appealing to a stranger. She will contort her face in all manners of ways, going from cute to downright ogre-ish with the most simple of brow inclinations. Her dental gear does not help matters, usually making her look like her lips are bloated out or like she’s wearing a mouth guard, and she has a tendency to even talk a bit off because of all of the crap on her head for her mouth.
TYPICAL DRESS: Autumn loves bright colors and overall shorts, usually of the jean variety but she is not above corduroy. She likes turtle necks and knee high toe-socks that come in neon rainbows, as well as crocs, hair ties and all kinds of noisy obnoxious bangles and ear rings. She wears shorts as much as she possibly can, and during the winter time she finally breaks down and gets into jeans – though they’re the awful, straight legged kind that make her look like an arrow pointing right into the ground.
She’s been wearing her dental head gear for several years now to fix a severe dental problem, and she wears wide, thick rimmed glasses that almost engulf her face and make her eyes look even larger than they already are.
She always, always, always wears crocs. Occasionally she will spring for bright yellow rain boots or even a brand new rainbow pair of them that her father bought her for Christmas.

PERSONALITY
---
WHO ARE YOU?
Autumn has too much brain for her own good sometimes, and relatively low defenses so she is easily hurt. More often than not, she is optimistic and good spirited. She likes to talk, be heard, and share her opinions but she’s learning not everyone is very nice. She’s very smart, and has very clear plans for herself and despite her age she knows what she wants, needs and likes without influence. She is self sufficient, but is a creature of the social sort and often times finds herself rather lonely if she is by herself.
Despite her naturally optimistic, cheery nature she gets relatively defensive and bitter at school, learning very quickly through bullying that she cannot be as free and unguarded as she once was. She is sensitive, and a target for bullying because of her eclectic nature but she refuses to change herself at all. Thus, she has to adapt to survive and that is coming in the form of increasing bitterness and vengeful anger. She is much more suited to smiling and laughing, but she will stew, grumble, glare and say without reservations what is on her mind. She is also learning what it is like to be taken advantage of, and as such the people she thought were friends are actually becoming fast enemies.
She is incredibly intelligent, though she can be lazy and prone to putting out no effort in arenas she does not feel passionate about. She is socially awkward, spending most of her time alone and she is learning to function in high-school, much like a new born prey animal must learn to run, lest the idea of being eaten turn into a painful reality. She is learning to keep to herself, keep quiet, and keep a low profile lest she be humiliated and degraded by her peers.
She’s got pretty much one friend in the whole world at this point. While she sometimes resents being introduced into a public school system, she also really enjoys the sudden increase in activity in her life, and of course being exposed to the most important thing in the world aside from bugs; boys.
She has an obnoxious, bookish sense of humor and a love for all things colorful. She likes riding bicycles and eating cotton candy, but must also be home by nine to be in bed by 9:30 by her own ruling. She’s kind of like a freaky mix between a 9 year old and a scientist in a nursing home.
She resents most boys a great deal despite her fascination with them, simply because they ignore her for obvious reasons. The best looking ones like Micah Kinsington never even know that she exists, even though she tutors him. Despite the fact she resents them, she is ALMOST as obsessed with them as she is her one, true love; bugs.
She is generous and self-sacrificing. She wants to right wrongs and fight injustice, help the less fortunate, heal the sick, make the sad happy, provide for those who can’t for themselves and protect those who need it despite the fact she herself is often a target for those who would bully and abuse others. She has a fierce heart, and good intentions, love for almost everything and everyone around her. She’s very much an activist, a bleeding heart, and a do-gooder.
- STRENGTHS: Autumn is pretty ignorant most of the time, and that saves her from a lot of pain on top of her cluelessness. She is generally an optimistic, forgiving person. She is extremely generous and helpful, and tends to be a very good friend despite the fact she doesn’t ever have any friends. She’s VERY smart and has a bright future ahead of her despite how endless and abysmal high school seems at the moment. She’s very neat, tidy, creative and organized. She’s quick to learn most things, though she is particularly, freakishly smart in her math class. She stands up for those bullied around her, she wants to fight injustice, help the less fortunate and protect those who need it, though she herself is among those few.
- WEAKNESSES: She’s a little on the sensitive side because of her sheltered youth. She falls prey to bullying very easily and often fails to identify the situations where she should simply keep her mouth shut. She is far too trusting and can be manipulated. She cries easily, and is actually prone to pouting and throwing the occasional tantrum. She is in no way spontaneous, and anything unexpected or unplanned can upset her delicate internal balance and make her panic. She wants to be part of a group, but has no idea how to fit in whatsoever. She pursues the things she enjoys no matter what, but if often causes her heartache in school.
- LIKES: Cotton candy, bright colors, text books, documentaries, learning, computers and all things electronic, dismantling anything electronic she can find, watching dissections or taking part in them (again this goes with the dismantling thing), arthropods, arachnids, crustaceans, insects of all kinds, wasps, mantises, rap and hip-hop music, crocs, knee-high socks, bicycles, Micah Kinsington, the science channel, museums, math and shop class, being in bed on time, getting up early, studying, organizing, neat, tidy, open spaces, designing terrariums, terrarium shows, shorts, shag carpet, bean bags, dim lights, Micah Kinsington, football players, UPS delivery men, having her blood drawn, high lighters, cream cheese, new pens, fresh notebooks, video games, computers, tiny cell phones, balloons, lists, schedules, field trips, elevators and escalators, assassin bugs, wood fire, Micah Kinsington, dancing.
- DISLIKES: Home-ec and physical education, girls at school, bugs being smashed for no good reason, scary movies, stories about aliens, cars, paint, being ignored by or having her name forgotten by Micah Kinsington (both happen a lot), metal stools, mean people, stupid people, popcorn, breakfast for dinner, hair spray, dry mouth, long pants, big heavy shoes, tank tops, abused books, cheap pens, cars, trucks, heights, being alone, black and white photography, skirts, aggressive dogs, overly loving cats, stories where the mother dies – like Bambi.

HISTORY
---
HOW DID YOU GET HERE?
Autumn was born in the middle of a flight from Africa to America, somewhere over the Atlantic ocean in the back of a retired army bomber gutted and turned into a relief vessel. Her parents – Harley and Rosemary were Peace Corps workers, on a rushed return flight to America from third world Somalia.
Autumn was born several weeks premature, and kept under careful surveillance before she was allowed to go home with her parents. She was a frail baby with a terrible immune system, constantly in and out of the hospital but they were finally able to get her healthy and balanced and she flourished. There was a bit of a hassle regarding her nationality, but that was settled quickly and was a simple battle in the face of her health issues. She was legally named Aunavine Mudiwa Ebele Normandy – her middle names in two separate African languages, translating to “beloved kindness”.
When she turned three and it was obvious she would be just fine, the family took to traveling again, bringing their little girl with them. She was raised this way, traveling with her mother and father to places where people needed help and she spent most of her youth playing with children in the dirt and learning dozens of foreign languages. She was raised in an environment where she had little, and saw others who had less and needed help, and was from a young age a bleeding heart, eager to help those who needed it.
Her parents were both incredibly intelligent, and tutored her throughout their travels so that she wasn’t missing out on schooling. Autumn really grew to love her life roaming and exploring, and it seemed like things would stay as they were forever but in a sudden show of violence, Rosemary was killed when Autumn was ten by armed rebels stealing food from their relief convoy in the Congo.
It hit both Autumn and Harley hard, and after they buried Rosemary near her home in Canada, Autumn and her father moved to his hometown of Saxis, and became stationary.
It was hard to adjust for both of them. Of course they both missed their lost loved one – Harley his wife, Autumn her mother, but the sudden lifestyle change threw them as well. Harley picked up a job as a teacher in Martingale college, and after discussing it with Autumn she was enrolled in public school and her world turned completely upside down.
A sheltered, eclectic, smart young girl she learned that kids her age, in her home country were not as nice as the children she had known in other countries. At first she was distressed to the point of tears, Harley wanted to pull her out of school but Autumn, determined to make it through it, resisted and eventually began to cope with and adjust to the differences in public school. She became less friendly, more wary, a little closed in and defensive. She spent most of her time alone, electing to eat in the library, or hide in the bathroom when the librarian attempted to force her to eat in the cafeteria. She took to speaking out against the people who abused her, as anyone she loved would tell her was the right thing to do but it drew more fire. While she has learned to keep her head down in school, there are certain things she cannot let happen around her – she does not like seeing others bullied, she will stand up for them and defend them against those who pick on them.
She met one young man named Rodney Evans, who has turned into her best friend. She also met another young man named Micah Kinsington, who does not even know her name but elects to call her ‘hey girl’ even though she tutors him for several months out of the year. Autumn is in love with Micah, while simultaneously wanting to smack him around.
- FAMILY: Harley – Father, Rosemary – Mother (Decd)
- FRIENDS: Rodney Evans
- LOVE INTERESTS: Micah Kinsington
- PETS: An orchid mantis named Matata, a flower mantis named Dabulamanzi, a garden variety mantis named Mobutu. A stag beetle (a mesotopus regius to be precise) named Arkenkherel, and a Hercules beetle named Micah Kinsington. Seriously.
