Brass Shadow

Barbarian by birth, savage by choice. One of the world's greatest trackers, on the hunt for the man who killed her master.

Main Details

Name: Fa Rong
Aliases: Brass Shadow
Gender: Female
Background: Kingdom of Siyi

Physical Characteristics

Height: 5‘09“
Weight: 165 lbs
Hair: Orange and black, mixed. Braided.
Eyes: Chocolate Brown
Build: Muscular
Unique characteristics: Heavily tattooed, scar extending from base of chin to lower lip, front teeth sharpened to points

Detailed Appearance: Fa Rong is an incredibly striking woman, with rich, tanned skin pulled over powerful muscles and a broad-shouldered, wide-hipped figure. She carries with her the marks of her homeland, her front teeth having been sharpened into vicious points to emulate the raptor, and her skin covered in blue-ink tattoos of wards against evil and good luck charms. Her face is almost feline, with a small, pointed nose, high cheekbones and sharp, angular and expressive eyes. Her hair, a mix of flecks of copper interspersed amongst charcoal, is kept short except for long bangs and a long pigtail decorated with raptor feathers extending down to her waist.

Rong dresses to emphasize mobility, wearing a tight, short skirted tunic made of the Siyi Spidersilk with a drawstring around the waist, and hide breeches. She prefers to go barefoot, and thus the soles of her feet back become quite rough. In more formal occasions, she wears the hide of a raptor as a cloak - feathers and all, along with a turban made from the same raptor’s tail. Her most alarming choice of clothing, however, is the pair of wicked, steel-taloned gloves she wears when on the prowl for others.

Biographical Information

History: Fa Rong was born to the Fa clan in Northern Siyi, a powerful clan that ruled over several tribes. However, Rong was the fourth child, and thus stood to inherit nothing. Thus, it was decided, as was tradition amongst the tribes of Siyi, that she would take the Path of the Predator. At the tender age of eight, Fa Rong was deposited into the wild to live amongst a pack of raptors.

It was not easy. The raptors had little interest in accepting a small human child amongst their ranks at first, which meant that Rong had to earn her position amongst them. At first, she simply followed the pack, and stole snatches of food from them before darting back into the steaming jungle to watch them from afar. More than once, this almost resulted in Rong getting eaten. Still, she persisted in remaining close to her pack. One year into the ordeal, her acceptance into the pack came. The pack was fighting for territory with another, larger pack. Rong watched from a nearby hill as the two groups of raptors battled viciously, her own pack taking heavy losses. Seeing a set of stones on the hill, she quickly moved into action, rolling down several stones from the hill, causing an avalanche that killed the enemy pack’s alpha, and dispersed the others.

When she climbed down the hill, the raptors realised what she had done, and Fa Rong was officially accepted as a member of their family. From then on, she ran with them, she hunted with them, she tracked with them. The rigours of keeping up with such beasts transformed her. She became fast, strong, her senses sharp, all beyond human level. It was not long before she was merely another raptor in human skin.

For seven years she lived amongst her pack, living as they did. Not long after her sixteenth birthday, however, her life changed. Her pack had come across an encampment with a lone man, who had with him a bounty of meat. The raptors, along with Rong, planned to steal that from him and ransack his camp. However, when they sprang their assault upon the lone man, all were quickly subdued with a flurry of stunning kicks and punches. However, the fact that a human girl was amongst this pack intrigued the man. He introduced himself to her prone form, calling himself “Iron Crane”.

Iron Crane explained to Rong that he was a travelling martial artist, who wandered the lands looking to help wherever he could and enjoy the beauty of the world. He offered to train Rong in the ways of the art he used to subdue her and his pack, “Wudang”, in exchange for her becoming a servant of his. Using what little grasp of the common language she had, she accepted, and bid her pack a solemn goodbye, with a promise to return some day. From then on, Fa Rong followed Iron Crane around everywhere, serving him tea, running his baths, and doing pretty much whatever the man’s whims dictated, while also learning the ways of Wudang and relearning how to live amongst humans.

The partnership was not always easy. Iron Crane was an incredibly enigmatic and often strange teacher, often teaching his lessons in subtle and sometimes outright abstract ways. This more than once managed to enflame Rong’s temper, but Iron Crane himself always just laughed and smiled it off, as if nothing bothered him. Still, Rong took well to what Iron Crane taught her, at least when it came to Wudang, and Iron Crane made sure to let her know he appreciated that. The two became close, like grandfather and granddaughter, over time.

Yet even that would come to a close, as two years ago, in the middle of the night, Iron Crane was killed in his sleep. Fa Rong was only able to see a glimpse of his killer - an assassin with dreadlocks and eyes like fire. She gave chase to her master’s assassin, but the killer managed to evade her, and disappeared like a shadow in the dark. Suddenly, her life was again thrown out of balance. But Rong knew that she could not allow this injustice to go unavenged. She pledged to track down and find her master’s killer, and make them pay.

In this time, Rong has come to walk the Earth, forever searching for who might have stolen her master from her. She has supported herself through bounty-hunting, and has become renowned throughout the land of swords for her amazing, almost unparalleled tracking skills, learned from when she lived amongst the raptors. She has also taken on a new name - Brass Shadow, a name known to strike fear into the heart of any fugitive. Should see seek you, she will find you. It’s only a matter of time.

Personality: One cannot live amongst raptors and retain all the social graces one might expect of a young woman. Fa Rong is an abrasive, blunt and unwilling to mince words. She is wary around strangers, and absolutely, totally unwilling to tolerate any form of disrepected, willing to resort to violence if need be.

However, Rong is not lacking in decent qualities. She strongly believes in justice, and is more than willing to help those in need. She despises those who abuse their power, and is incredibly generous with her money (which might more be a result of her having incredibly limited experience with money in the first place). She is incredibly loving and faithful to her friends, treating anyone close to her as family, and is brave to a fault.

Powers, Combat and Abilities

Theme: Savage Wudang Warrior

Powers:

  • Glide: Brass Shadow has learned the methods of manipulating her qi so that she might attain something similar to flight. She can jump great distances, and then glide like a kite for short distances.

Abilities:

  • Amazing senses: Thanks to her years of living with raptors, Rong’s senses are fine-tuned, to a degree that she can pretty much track anyone, and it’s incredibly difficult to sneak up on her.
  • Inhuman Physique: Thanks to her severe living conditions, Rong’s physical abilities are well beyond the human average, and can lift half a ton over her head. She is capable of achieving up to 24 mp/h in short bursts, and her reflexes are at the peak of human ability.

Combat: In combat, Rong is focused on incapicating her opponent. She focused on powerful strikes to the joints and debilitating slashes (with her clawed gloves) to major arteries to incapicate her opponents. She makes ample use of grappling and tripping and using her opponents weight against them, and is not above using shock tactics such as digging her teeth into her opponents face and biting their nose off to discourage resistance. If an opponent is particularly tough, she will use her shuang guo to fight, allowing her to keep a reasonable distance from her opponent.

Miscellanea

Personal Effects: Raptor skin, shuang guo, lasso, bolas, bounties, back pack, rations.
Extra details: Reads at the level of a small child.
