Weapon name: Yue Lao Weapon genre: Blunt Weapon type: Chain Whip Material: Unknown Size: Ten meters long How is it carried around: Wrapped around her waist or one of her limbs. Appearance: A normal chain-whip of silvery color, though sometimes adorned with flecks of gold. Amount: One Abilities: The Yue Lao is a new weapon used by Chiha Karasagi. She created it herself, though with some help from Kirigakure's weapon designers, seeking to create a weapon similar to her old chain dagger while also affording her access to a combat style that could take over when her sword proves ineffective. She settled on a chain whip design after encountering the weapon while dealing with a bandit who used it. The chain whip is a weapon used in some martial arts, particularly traditional disciplines, in addition to modern and traditional wushu. It consists of several metal rods, which are joined end-to-end by rings to form a flexible chain. Generally, the whip has a handle at one end and a metal dart, used for slashing or piercing an opponent, at the other, but Chiha's model averts this with a blunt counter-weight instead. A cloth flag is often attached at or near the dart end of the whip and a second flag may cover the whip's handle. The flag or flags adds visual appeal and produces a rushing sound as the whip swings through the air. They also help stabilize the whip, enhancing the user's control. This reduces the risk of the user inadvertently striking themselves. The rushing noise also helps the user with identifying the location of the other end, since the weapon moves too fast to be normally noticed by human eyes. The cloth flag is is rectangular for superior sound and control, and the chain is divided into an unusual fifteen segments to allow for control proportionate to the exaggerated length. It is built to have a shine to the metal, segments are stylized, holes are precisely centered, chain rotates smoothly in the swivel built into the handle, no sharp corners or edges and welds are strong. Handle should be shaped to allow good grip. The grip is leather, which is best for endurance, to absorb sweat and prevent slippage. Typical method is to use a steel bolt to thread through small pieces of leather then use a lathe to round and shape the handle. The tip should be larger than the segments and weight proportional to the handle. Shape and weight distribution should allow the chain to be easily tossed and retrieved into one hand. The chain is indestructible and non-magnetic, immune to seals and exterior manipulation forces. The chain whip is heavy but flexible, allowing it to be literally used as a whip to hit, hook and bind an opponent, restrict his/her movement, and to deflect blows from other weapons. Because the whip is flexible, it can be used to strike around obstacles, including an opponent's block. The whip chain can be folded and hidden from view, making it an easy weapon to carry and conceal. The whip is designed to be empowered by Chiha's Kekkei Genkai, affording her even more control than normal; while she can channel her energy to strike for up to Very High power for a like stamina cost, she is also able to control the whip without any motions as long as she is contact with it, sending it racing towards targets like a javelin or serpent. By arranging the segments, she can fill the "gaps" created by the sections to create barriers of her energy, erecting walls and shields to protect herself for the same cost. She can also fire beams and surges by twirling the whip and sending arcs and crescents for the same costs as prior. Ability chakra cost or requirement: Stated Attachments: - Special notes: The weapon's name is derived from the deity in charge of "the red thread of fate," Yuè Xià Lǎorén, often abbreviated to Yuè Lǎo, the old lunar matchmaker god, who is in charge of marriages in Chinese mythos. The Red Thread of Fate, also referred to as the Red Thread of Marriage, and other variants, is an East Asian belief originating from Chinese legend. According to this myth, the gods tie an invisible red cord around the ankles of those that are destined to meet one another in a certain situation or help each other in a certain way. Often, in Japanese and Korean culture, it is thought to be tied around the little finger. The two people connected by the red thread are destined lovers, regardless of place, time, or circumstances. This magical cord may stretch or tangle, but never break. |
