A Few Proposals; Let's bounce some ideas around.

Hello, New United Kingdom.

Recently, I've put myself forward as Conservative candidate for the Parliamentary seat of Northern England. Given the current state of crisis in our Region, I've come up with a trove of ideas on how we can get back on track. I'll be bouncing them around here, and I'd like to hear your feedback. Some of these ideas I'll be specifying as the parts to my campaign platform.

Hopefully, they can help unite us and bring about a solution that's acceptable to all, and I can get to work coming up with ways to serve you, the wondeful people of the New United Kingdom.

The Five Point Plan

Point One:
In order for our Region to function, we need a government that is large enough to meet our needs, but small enough that it's not constantly shifting due to a lack of manpower. To accept a difficult truth, our Region needs more people. Right now, we just don't have enough of a population to support the current system of government. Therefore, I propose, and hear me out on this, that we abolish the House of Lords, and a move to a unicameral legislature. The monarch has the power of veto, and so remains powerful even without being able to appoint Lords. So not much worry there. In addition, this shrinks the government and makes it more efficient, as well as more democratic. I think we can all stand for that. (Note that this will require a Constitutional amendment.) Once the NUK starts to grow and get stronger, we can re-establish the Lords, or just add seats to the unicameral Parliament. So once this goes through and things are stable, we recruit like crazy.

Point Two:
Like I've said, we have too many positions in government that simply can't be filled. Therefore, I propose that whoever our next Prime Minister is should use his/her power over ministerial appointments to reduce the size of HM's Government so that it consists only of Prime Minister, Home Secretary, and Foreign Secretary. I think that between these three positions, the government should continue to function just fine, and we no longer have to worry about the others being vacant and causing political turmoil. Again, and like Point One, we let this go through and stabilize things, then recruit like crazy so we can grow back to the point that more positions are sustainable.

Point Three:
I also realise that our current system of government has some parts that need not be changed. Therefore, I propose that we don't touch the monarchy or the Supreme Court. Rather, I think we need to immediately appoint a Chief Justice so that the Court is functional, and continue with our normal process of having the Heir ascend to monarch status (I believe in this case that would be Prince Ronald, who we can all support because seriously, he's awesome. And a voice of stability and reason.). Continue with the by-elections as they are. And also, please elect me in them :-)

Point Four:
I support Lord Carlisle as the Founder of our Region. I also support the principle of government by the people, for the people. Therefore, I propose that Article I, Section V of the Constitution be amended to read:
"All Citizens, members, elected officials, unelected officials, etc. including Royals and Founders, are subject to the laws of the region, and shall abide by the law or face Trial by their peers or a tribunal, as per Criminal Code." I know this might seem like it's closing in on Lord Carlisle, but here's the thing: I trust him not to do anything that will get him in trouble with the Constitution. Nevertheless, it's important that nobody, and I truly mean nobody, be above the law. Even if I trust our officials, I still think there must be a tangible check on accountability. Unchecked power is not democratic, even in the most capable ruler's hands.

Point Five:
The consent of the governed is paramount to any stable democracy. Therefore, I propose that we go about seeking approval for and implementing Point One and Point Four of this plan through a Constitutional referendum. Everybody votes on whether they like the change, or on what wording they want to be used, or whatever. The point is, we vote on it. One person, one vote, one fair result. On this same point, I believe a referendum, or a series thereof, should be used to decide whether we want to formally establish the office of Founder as part of our Constitution or leave it undefined, and if the former, with what powers. I stress that it is not my desire, nor the point of this plan, to wage an insurgency or a rebellion against the Founder Lord Carlisle. Just to define what form our relationship takes so that there's not so much confusion over what is right and wrong.

I realise some of these ideas may be radical, and that others may be automatically implemented. This is just one rendition of a plan, and I'll likely post new renditions after hearing from all of you. So please, leave me your feedback. And of course, KEEP CALM, AND CARRY ON.

-Lucas

I mostly agree with you. We can make emergency things and later we re-establish the positions to as usual.
The only thing that I don't agree is giving power to the founder. I mean, I agree that the people must decide it (and now I can imagine the decision). But Carlisle is not mentally prepared to have power, he is too dangerous.
In the other things I totally support you.

I am in canpaign for having the seat of Ireland in the HoC. For now I haven't thought in any particular ideas. But I'll work for the NUK as I always have done. And I promise to work as hard as possible to have complete Democracy. And listen to the ideas of everybody. God bless the Sacred land of the NUK!

All valid concerns, Louis. I'm glad for your support. I will say, I believe that given the nature of our Region, Lord Carlisle can't be stripped of all power, nor can he rule absolutely. The People shall judge where on that spectrum we should like to proceed from.

And Arthur, I'm glad to hear you think so. I want nothing more than for a plan like this to work, and for everyone to be happy with the result. Even if they have to compromise, it'll be beneficial to us ALL in the long run.
