Battling and the Battle Gauge

As discussed in the Welcome topic, battling is a conflict between two or more characters within a topic. When one battles, they can use their character's weapon system, latent abilites, or other attacks or dodge and opponents attack. How one battles is an entirely different topic entirely.

In order to battle in this RP, one must take up a battle gauge, a diffinitive attack system that ensures people don't use super-powered attacks right off the bat. There are three different gauges in which you can choose from. They are:

Spend Gauge

|I---------------|

Above is how the Spend Gauge looks. There are 15 notches and one cursor. Each turn, the Spend Gauge moves 2 notches to the right, like so:
|--I-------------|
What does this mean? Well, let us put it into context. Let's say a mutant wanted to use a power that used up 3 notches on the Spend Gauge. Since there are only 2 notches on the gauge, he cannot use it. Next turn, however, the Gauge moves up 2 more notches:
|----I-----------|
This enables him to use the attack with the move. He does so. Ne sacrifices 3 notches on the gauge. After the attack, the gauge looks like this:
|-I--------------|
It has moved 3 to the left, signifying spending three notches.

In order to use more powerful moves, the gauge needs to build up to higher counts, while moving common moves us up few notches. Using this gauge requires conservation and cunning to use.

Level Gauge

[0]==1===2====3

The level up gauge is more based on lengthy battles and can lead to stronger attacks. However, it is a bit harder to use.

Let's see how to use this gauge. Darby, a human, starts a battle with a Drone. He starts on level 0, hence the box around the number. This signifies level 0 attacks. Now how does he access level 1, 2, and 3 attacks? By standing by, which is not attacking. Let us say that he uses the first turn to stand by.
[0]>=1===2====3
Notice how the gauge changed. An arrow has replaced the first neutral mark. Let us say that he stands by once more:
0>>[1]===2====3
Darby now has access to level 1 attacks, which are stronger than level 0 attacks. Using level 1 attacks doesn't cost anything. If Darby continues to stand by, eventually he'll gain access to level 2 and level 3 attacks.

There is one stipulation to this gauge. You can only use a level 3 attack only once. This is because level 3 attacks are a good deal stronger than otehr gauge's attacks.

Constantly standing by is not wise. You're open to attack while you wait for higher level attacks, which can inevitably lead to defeat. The difficulty with this gauge is to stradle between attacking and standing by. If you can master this, you'll find this system to be rather fun to use.

Cooldown Gauge

C<0|||||||||>H

The Cooldown Gauge allows immediate access to strong moves, but at the cost of not being able to attack for a few moves.

Example: Terrasque, the droid, engages in a battle with Darby. Terrasque wants to finish off Darby quickly, so he uses his most powerful attack, which uses 10 clicks on the Cooldown Gauge. This is his gauge after the attack:
C<|||||||||0>H<<<
The gauge changed dramatically. Not only does the gauge move all the way to the right, now there are markers around the "H". The markers indicate overheating, and now the meter must cool down for Terrasque to use attacks once more. Normally, every turn the gauge moves left one click, but when overheated, it moves 2 clicks every other turn. Until the meter reaches C, Terrasque cannot use attacks.

Users of the Cooldown Gauge must try to regulate their attacks to make sure they don't overheat. Using a move that takes up more clicks than there are available simply move the marker to the H; the marker can't go beyond 10.

---

Just because the examples are in certain gauges doesn't mean they are restricted to that gauge. Any character can use any one gauge. Switching gauges will cost level-up points, but you might find that a different might be right for you after your character is created.

Attacking outside of battle is a confusing subject, since attacks still use gauge points. The way this is countered is an admin will initiate a half-battle, in which conflict will not occur, but the gauge still uses up points. This is used when certain objectives must be completed by using different weapons.
