There are no elements in NAD, other than those in typical physics; water will extinguish fire, wind will blow away dirt, and electricity is potentially devastating to any life form. So how do we distinguish one attack from another? Why, with attack types, of course.

No attack type is superior to any other. Instead, each attack type has properties exclusive only to them. This includes bypassing of defenses, weapon damage, gauge usage, and many other facets. There are six attack types: Projectile, Plasma, Melee, Stream, Psionic, and Support. Their descriptions are listed below:

-Projectile encompasses all objects that are thrown or shot that have mass. Some weapons, such as an acid thrower or rocket launcher are some examples of these. Projectiles may pass through plasma shields and barriers, but deal half damage. As well, they have a large range, but not unlimited.

-Plasma is the most common type of weapons fire. Pistols, autorifles, and even some heavy weapons are part of this category. Plasma attacks cannot pass through plasma shields and barriers but have unlimited range.

-Melee encompasses all forms of hand weapons, such as swords, spears, and maces. Melee weapons are generically more damaging than the others. All melee attacks can pass through plasma shields and barriers but deal half damage in doing so. As well, melee weapons have very limited range.

-Stream includes all attacks that have to eject a constant stream of energy or something to that effect. Flamethrowers and other type weaponry are included in this category. Stream weapons cannot pass through plasma shields and barriers and have a medium range, but consume far less gauge points than other weapons.

-Psionic is the channeling of mind energy. Most Psionic attacks are exclusive to mutants, and even then, only a few mutants can use Psionic. Some weapons are considered to be Psionic due to alterations to one's mind. Psionic attacks can pass totally through plasma shields and barriers, but deal less damage than other attacks

-Though some Stream and Psionic attacks may be used to bolster allies or to weaken enemies, all Support attacks do this exclusively. Some weapons such as the EM Emitter have the ability to disrupt droid functionality, while others such as some mutant abilities, can rally allies for a final, almighty charge.

Some weapons do not fall in any of these categories. Instead, they have their own special rules about them.

So how does this apply to NAD? Well, let's have an example. Let's say you have a pyrokinetic mutant, which means you can control fire. How that fire is controlled is where attack types come in. If you were to throw fire like a ball at an opponent, it would be classified as Plasma, since fire is raw energy. If you were to fire a constant jet of fire, it would be considered Stream. And if you were to simply set someone on fire with your mind, that's Psionic.
