Current Status

The current population of mutants is around 360 million. While small in number, the populace doesn't seem to be decreasing any time soon. Mutants live what can be considered a rural or tribal life for the most part. Some live in tribes, while others live in farm towns. They make the most food in the world, so that is what holds the other two races in check.

Mutants can't move past rudimentary technology. It is unknown what the exact cause of this is, but it is speculated that it has something to do with the Eonmind itself. The fact is, prolonged exposure to technology as advanced as the humans and droids have causes mutants to gradually lose their powers. This is why few mutants live on Arcs.

Because of the impediment technology has on them, mutants generally tolerate humans and droids as temporary visitors. While humans have helped create them and droids have helped them build their cities, mutants can be very aggressive against visitors, often shunning them altogether in some villages.

The government of the mutants is headed by a Council in Kumbar. Each Council member has a seat for each district in the New Lands, representing that district. However, this is not a democracy: it is closer to a group of tribes working together. Members will bring up important problems and the others decide upon the actions to remedy said problem.

Culture

To understand mutant culture, you must understand that mutants have some hidden link to the Eonmind. When the Eonmind is pleased, mutants tend to feel comfort. When the Eonmind is distressed, mutants begin to feel anxious. However, the Eonmind tends not to show emotion, so mutants as a whole tend to go about their daily lives without interference. This link is extremely important when trying to understand their culture.

Powers are considered gifts given by the Eonmind. They are not to be abused, and are to be used with total responsibility. Misbehavers and ne'er-do-wells are harshly punished for violating this principle. It is proven that mutants with stronger powers are more sensitive to the Eonmind's presence, and are often given seats on the Council of Kumbar.

Honor to mutants is directly linked to their powers. If one abuses theirs, they bring disgrace to teh family. On the other side, if they do something great for the tribe as a whole, then honor is brought back. Defeating an opponent with just one's power is considered underhanded, while fighting with just weapons is considered barbaric. Other facets of honor include fornication, military service, and number of children.

Soul Energy

One of the biggest questions for a long time was the origin of mutant powers, and, as well, why they sprung up so suddenly during the Flood. Some surmised that it was just natural evolution while others argued "the work of God." After the receding of the waters, electronic devices were a bit buggy, often shutting off from overloading. Many scientists concluded that there was an overabundance of energy in and about the planet, but where this came from, no one could say.

One of the most prevalent theories of the time was that the mass death that was caused during the flood caused this spike of energy. This theory managed to prove true, as further study and research found that when a human dies, their body releases an energy that seems to linger and grow as time goes on.

Evolution states that when there is an overabundance of a substance, a creature's body changes to feed off of the substance. This remains true for humans. Because of the massive amounts of "Soul Energy," as it is called, some humans' genes began to change in order to accommodate for the spike in energy, hence the birth of mutants. Further proof is shown through the fact that a mutant's power is merely manipulating Soul Energy by means specified in their genes.

Soul Energy is much more abundant closer to the ground. Why this is, no one can say. This would explain the births of mutants to human parents who make their living in the New Lands; the fetus is genetically altered in a way that allows them to access the abundant Soul Energy through simple evolution.

Mutant Independents

Rangers are the mutant version of independent. After years of experience, Rangers gain the ability to hone their abilities to powerful highs. Alongside that, they can track Drones and have a latent link to the Eonmind, even being able to know when a pack of Drones approaches. After one decides that they are ready, the undergo a test out in the Wilds. If they both survive and complete the test, they are inducted into the Rangers.

Unlike humans and droids, Rangers do not use guns or artificial explosives, as the tactics are considered dishonorable and heinous if used by their own kind in mutant society. Instead, Rangers use swords, axes, and other type weaponry. Their power, therefore, is drawn from honing combat skills with a weapon as well as honing their own latent abilities. Some of the most powerful Rangers often specialize either in their power or their weaponry, a process often called "min-maxing". Ranger armor is thin, as battle suits often hinder movement and even powers.
