Summon Hunting Horror [Advanced Spell of the Summoning style of Sorcery]

Saving Throw: Will
Perquisites: Demonic pact or master words and signs; twelve ranks of Knowledge [arcana]; Base Magic Attack Bonus of +4 or greater
Magic Success Roll: Sets the DC for the target's Will save
Warning: The learning of and casting of this spell provokes a Corruption check

This spell is designed to summon forth one of the elder horror of the Outer Dark known as a Hunting Horror. Dealing with such creatures is unclean and dangerous to the soul though deters few of the practitioners of the dark arts. This spell is common among those who serve Nyarlathotep, who is in fact the dark Father of this race. Those who have a demonic pact or greater demonic pact with Nyarlathotep may summon these beings without fear of the creature turning on them and they will automatically choose to forgo their saving throw against this spell. With anyone else they will attempt to resist this spell and the spell's caster really should have the following spell ready to cast. If a Hunting Horror is successfully summoned by this spell the caster may make it Manifest at a location with the spell's Range.

The Material Component: The components for the spell is 600 silver luna worth of sorcerous paraphernalia which is consumed by the casting.

Bind Hunting Horror [Advanced Spell of the Summoning style of Sorcery]

Power Point Cost: 4
Components: V, S, F, XP
Casting Time: Twelve minutes
Range: Short [Twenty Five feet and five feet per level of Scholar the caster possesses]
Duration: One hour per level of Scholar the caster possesses
Target: One Haunting Horror
Saving Throw: Will

Hunting Horrors will willing obey those who are sworn to their Dark Father Nyarlathotep. For everyone else there is this spell. This spell is designed to force a Hunting Horror to obey the spell's caster's commands. Needless to say one should be careful how they phrase commands to these beasts. As children of the Crawling Chaos they are clever at 'interpreting' their orders in ways that are baneful to the spell's casters.

Focus: The focus for this spell is a length of silver chain. The spell costs 600 experience points to cast.

Visage of Man [Advanced Spell of the Hypnotism style of Sorcery]

Power Point Cost: 2
Components: V, S
Casting Time: One full round
Range: Self
Target: Self
Duration: One hour per level of Scholar the caster possesses
Saving Throw: None
Prerequisites: Entrance; four ranks of Disguise, two ranks of Knowledge [arcana], Base Magical Attack Bonus of +2 or greater
Magic Success Roll: 10 to appear as a human, 20 to appear as a specific person

Visage of man is a spell used by serpent men and other non-human races who wish to go unnoticed among humanity. It does not transform their features, but instead creates a powerful but subtle suggestion to those around them that the caster is a human being. While it is relatively simple to use the spell to create a generic human visage that is easily overlooked, it takes a sorcerer of greater craft to assume the features of a specific person. In order to do so, the caster must have had intimate contact or a chance to observe the one they intend to replace for a period of days. If they lack this there is an additional penalty of at least +5 to their Magic Success Roll.

Serpent people use the spell extensively to keep their presence unknown among humanity. The greatest sorcerous spies among these people use this spell to take the form of those they wish to take the blame for their activities or to replace humans altogether. Their favourite tactic is use the image of a pious and faithful person for the heinous acts and ruin their reputation in the eyes of their fellow humans.

Control Shoggoth [Advanced Spell of the Nature style of Sorcery]

Power Point Cost: 16
Components: V, S, M, F, XP
Casting Time: One minute
Range: Short [Twenty-five feet plus five feet per level of Scholar the caster possesses]
Target: One Shoggoth
Duration: One hour per level of Scholar the caster possesses
Saving Throw: Will negates
Prerequisites: Control monstrous humanoid; fifteen ranks of Handle Animal; fifteen ranks of Knowledge [arcana]; fifteen ranks of Knowledge [nature]; Magic Attack bonus of +6 or greater
Magic Attack Roll: Sets DC for the target’s Will save

Derived from the ancient formula used by the Elder Things that created Shoggoths. control shoggoth is a magical ritual that allows a sorcerer to control these abhorrent monstrosities. Upon the casting of the spell is Shoggoth makes a Will save opposed to the caster’s Magic Attack Roll. If the Shoggoth fails this check, they are magically constrained to obey the caster’s commands without question. Shoggoths dislike being under another’s control and will at the next opportunity seek to destroy the caster of this spell.

Shoggoths seem to be able to build up a resistance to this spell over time. After being subject to this spell for a hundred times and each hundred times after that a Shoggoth gains a +1 cumulative bonus to the Wills saving throw against this spell. This may not seem to be terribly dangerous to the caster, but since Shoggoths are effectively immortal they will eventually develop a partial immunity to this spell. This fact is what doomed the Elder Things as their Shoggoths eventually rebelled and destroyed them. Later masters of Shoggoths usually place Shoggoths in suspended animation when they are not needed and cast this spell only upon awakening them for a specific need. Still the occasional Deep One colony can get annihilated through their priest’s carelessness.

Those seeking to bind a strange Shoggoth to their will are usually have no way to determine how many times the Shoggoth has been exposed to this spell already and may find it much harder to accomplish than they expected.

The Material Component/Focus: The components for the spell is 100,000 silver luna worth of sorcereous paraphernalia that is consumed by the spell’s casting. It’s focus is a amber and iron rod sheathed in lead which must bear an electrical charge. The focus may be reused, but must be recharged for each use of the spell. The spell cost 10,000 experience points to cast.

Contact Star Spawn of Cthulhu [Advanced Spell of the Summoning style of Sorcery]

Power Point Cost: 6
Components: V, S, M, XP
Casting Time: Thirty minutes
Range: Interstellar [May contact any entity not bound against Manifestation in the caster’s world]
Duration: Ten minutes per level of Scholar the caster possesses
Target: One Star Spawn of Cthulhu

Perquisites: Greater demonic pact or master words and signs; sixteen ranks of Knowledge [arcana]; Ritual Sacrifice Feat; Magic Attack bonus of +8 or greater
Skill Check:[/b] Knowledge [arcana] of DC 21
Warning: The learning of and use of this spell provokes a Corruption test. This spell is considered 'friendly contact' with a demon for the purposes of provoking further Corruption tests

This spell is designed to contact the awful beings that are the spawn of the mighty Cthuhlu. As the simple contact of these powerful beings is sufficient to warp the caster's soul and bind him to their will only the desperate, foolish or mad would attempt this spell. Unfortunately the Hyborian world is full of these types.

Summon Star Vampire [Advanced Spell of Summoning style of Sorcery]

Power Point Cost: 8
Components: V
Casting Time: Four minutes
Range: Close [Twenty five feet plus five feet per level of Scholar the caster possesses]
Target: One Star Vampire
Duration: One hour per level of Scholar the caster possesses
Saving Throw: Will- but see below
Perquisites: Eight ranks of Knowledge [arcana]; Magic Attack Bonus of +2 or greater
Magic Attack Roll: Sets DC for target's Will saving throw

This spell allows a person to summon an invisible ravening horror within close proximity of themselves should they ever feel the need to do so. Anyone feeling the need to do and who doesn't want to lose every drop of blood in their body this had better have the next spell or other precautions ready to go.

Since these spells often allow Star Vampires to feed on something they almost always choose to allow the summoning to happen and forgo their saving throw.

The spell is notoriously easy to cast. There is at least one story where a student of the black arts prone to reading aloud received a newly discovered tome by a friend. As a result an accidentally summoned Star Vampire devoured him alive shortly thereafter.
