Stygian Hybrids Description: Ordinary Stygians are a downtrodden mix of many different Cultures, most of them descended from slaves. These could generally be treated as Kushites, Shemites, Souther Islanders or even Hyborians, depending on their origins. This variant is a Culture that is intended to represent these Hybrid Stygians. Stygian (Hybrids) are Stygian/Shemite/Southern Islander/Kushite/Hyborian variant Culture and gain the following benefits. They are typically dusky-skinned, but may have slightly lighter or darker tone depending on their heritage. They are intended to be a Non-Player Character Culture, as they are almost entirely unsuited for adventuring. The Stygian Hybrid Culture profile, perhaps with minor modifications can also be used for other Cultures who have no martial training or inclination and who are almost invariably farmers, fishers or herders. Culture: Same as Stygian. Names: Same as Stygian. Religion: The same as Stygian. Exceptional Commoners may be ordered to join a phyle, the rank of part-time Priests who serve one month out of every three at the Temples. Cultural Features: * +2 bonus to any two background skills (see below). * -1 penalty to all attack rolls. Stygian Hybrids Commoners are not merely untrained in the ways of war, they are completely unsuited to combat by virtue of their temperament. This penalty no longer applies if the Stygian Hybrid gains a martial weapon proficiency. * No Weapon Familiarity: Unlike other Stygians, the Stygian Hybrid does not gain weapon familiarity with the Stygian bow. Common Stygians are not allowed to wield weapons. * Any and all background skills become permanent Class Skills regardless of Class chosen for the Character. Background Skills: The background skills of Stygian Hybrids depends mostly on the primary Cultural strain and/ or his function in society. The Game Master can mix and match these as appropriate. Any impure Stygian can be a Performer, not just Stygian-Darfari Hybrids, for example. However, a hybrid Stygian-Kushite Performer may choose any three background skills from the Performer list and/or the Kushite list. The background skills chosen become permanent Class Skills for the Character. * Each get Knowledge (Local: Stygia) plus listed skills. Darfari or Performer: Concentration, Perform (any) and Perform (Drum). Hyborian or Artisan: Concentration, Perform (Ritual) and Craft (any). Kushite or Farmer: Handle Animal, Profession (Farmer) and Survival. Meadow Shemite or Merchant: Bluff, Sense Motive and Profession (Trader). Shemite or Herder: Handle Animal, Spot and Survival. Southern Islander or Fisher: Perform (Dance), Profession (Fisher) and Survival. Favoured Class: Commoner, True Commoner or Commoner Variants. Prohibited Class: Barbarian, Borderer, Courtier, Noble, Noble Cavalry, Nomad, Martial Disciple, Mercenary, Pikeman, Pirate, Scholar, Soldier, Thief. Automatic Languages: Stygian. Bonus Languages: 50% none, 50% their primary Native Language. . |
