A Unique and Mighty Hero

What makes someone a hero?" said the old Man, "luck or bad luck, being in the wrong place at the wrong time, or right time! Events of miss-fortune or good fortune, a need, a necessary? Whatever it is, it does happen and more often than you think." he ponders a moment, then speaks again, "being a hero is no fun, sometimes the happiest Man is a Man pushing a plough, but then if a horde of marauders come over the hill and kill him, he still happy, cause he got off this pile of swill and that must be a blessing!

He slams his mug down and ponders whether to laugh or take the moment seriously, he decides to take the moment seriously, "It not fate what makes a hero a hero, it is not destined, though I dare say it could be prophesied by the wise. It is not blowing in the wind, it want in yer soul that makes a hero a hero, the spirit to fight no matter what, and fight for what is right. Aye, no many of them about, now ya think of it. Because what is right is twisted and strange and gives none peace. Aye, hmm, as the great cosmos grows and shrinks, as it endeavours to destroy itself to growth, that is the logic of life and we must endeavour to comprehend and live with it's ways or go mad!"

The old Man pauses from his narration, "I thirst, gee us another orange-juice!"

Physical Quirks

"The Scale of a Person!"

It difficult to get a balance with this chart, Game Master should beside which option they prefer. An optional rule for anyone wanting it. It is as Player's Guide to Hyborian Age; Page 10: Physicality.

Some are the same from Sourcebook, but given a title to structure it and some extra options.

Concept of High

what is the concept of a High Ability, is it the highest so: Str 12, Dex 11 and Con 10, means Str is High!

I have tried to create Structure with 13 as High, 8 and less Low, still working at it, so this is just a trial.

Some maybe seen as High Str, High Dex, while another says High Dex, High Str, this is meant, that the 1st High is Higher that the 2nd High.

         High:           13+
          Mid:          9-12
         Low:           0-8

7: Agile: High Dex, Mid Con, Mid Str: -1 Spot and Search, +1 Reflex ST.

8: Resilient: High Dex, High Str, High Con:: -1 Bluff and Diplomacy, +1 all ST and +1 to Str, Dex and Con Checks.

* "AHHHHHH, Fight ME.....": Prowess People, just cannot leave a fight with ease, they must make a Concentration skill roll to pull themselves free of battle.

DC = 30 - HD of Foe (If more are about, this helps reduce DC; half HD of 2nd Foe, then Quarter 3rd Foe, 4th Foe 1/8th of HD: but to a minimum of 1HD making a -1DC at least per extra foe).

8HD Bandit with 10 1st lvl followers would give a DC of 12.

"Run away,": Allies can Aid Other by Shouting, using Bluff, Diplomacy or Intimidate, as many allies can shout as they want and bonus will stack as usual.

The Written Form

Languages: Character can (or cannot) speak varied languages at starts, it seems it would include written form of the language (for most). So I only allow the character's Home Cultural Language to be known as written form (of course if illiterate, they cannot read or write and still have to use 2 skill points to gain literacy). The other written-forms of rest the languages known must be learned another way and will have to be earned, though only through time and role-play, no skill points will be used (or wasted).

Nobles and Scholars: Nobles get their Intelligence Bonus in other languages they can read or write, Scholars get double their Intelligence Bonus in Written/Reading languages. (Also Game Master can read a character's history/story and if it seem appropriate, give them another written/reading form. (Noticed this in Warrior's Companion, which I thought was a good idea).

Example: So it will look like this for an Aquilonian: Aquilonia (Literate), Nemedian (dialect/basic), Stygian (dialect), Zamoran (Pidgin).

Dialect: knows how to speak, dialect/basic: know how to speak and can comprehend basic words, Pidgin: "Hello, goodbye, how much room, etc."

-2 penalty to Cha based skills if similar language.

Example: speaking Nemedian to a Aquilonia person, -4 if pidgin.

-4 penalty to comprehension of the written words in basic form.

Example: if writing a letter and being diplomatic to the other, -4 to your roll.

Also to read another's Letter properly, is a DC 5, also the negative applies to the Decipher Script roll,

Example: Hhagath the Not so Clever-Cleaver, rolls 1D20 get 13, he not trained in Decipher Script, so roll is treated as a 10, he has basic comprehension of Zamorian in which the letter he picked up is written with, the -4 is applied, his total is now 6, but Hhagath the not so Clever-Cleaver has Int of 7, another -2 to total = 4, Hhorgath fails the DC 5 and thinks the letter says, "Go to Gym-ilithan's Tomb," but infact it says, "Do NOT go to Gym-ilithan's Tomb".
