Power Points and Magic Styles:

Power Points:

I do believe that the Mongoose rules are not exactly perfect when it comes to PP assignment, some spells seem overly expensive when it comes to PP and some under. I believe if D&D 3.5 had done this it would have been painstakingly analysis and sorted to near perfection, but I think with Mongoose, "to many cooks spoil the broth," suits this endeavour.

Of course, I might explain other factors, like my resentment to XP being added to Summoning creatures, whether of Nature Magic, Serpent Magic or Summoning amongst others, but none for Necromancy raising dead or things like Black Plague spells which have the threat of runaway magic, but really XP to call a singular wolf and none for slaughtering a whole city seems a bad rule that has never been stopped unless it goes both ways and XP costs are added to every other spell. Personally I think XP is exactly what it means Experience, and how can anyone lose XP that they have gained unless they are going senile. XP is want they gain in life, not lose as if they are having memory problem while casting spells (and mostly only summoning ones), what does that mean?

Of course restriction might be server, like aging Character 1 year or 1d6 instead of XP lose, or fatigue or exhaustion after casting certain spells with a DC from 10 to 25 for a Fortitude save perhaps, but personally I think: do without XP lose for any spell.

* I sway from my original thoughts, PP, a spell like Identify Demon/Kuei cost 8 PP, while Death Touch is only 2 PP, seems bizarre. A reason could be (in defence of spell creator) that Identify Demon/Kuei is a Summoning spell and therefore not a Divination spell and lack of experience on the part of summoner with Divination spells causes such a high cost, or that a Demon or the sorcerer that summoned the Demon are resisting detection and are both spiritually fighting the one using the Identify Demon/Kuei spell. Perhaps if he gained the Divination style the PP cost could be halved or lower the PP cost or raise it for every level of a difference between sorcerers.

But, truth is my reason for this is, I not sure the spells are equally matched in some honest properly structured way and GMs should decide for themselves an appropriate cost for some of the spells.

Magic Styles:

Like Serpent Magic or Spider Magic, some spells are taken from other Styles to create a singular Sorcery Style. This could be amusing to generate a particular Sorcery Style for a Sorcerous individual instead of picking one of those in core rules and allow a Player to research by study and adventure for a new personalised Sorcery Style taking different spells from different sources to create their own unique style. Of course he would have to use an New Sorcery Style slot and be weaken for a time for having refused to take a style and be without the required spells for his new style till he finds them, but it might be interesting to try.

GM might suggest a sorcerer previous to the PC has done such a similar style and allow the Scholar to explore and seek out this rare Sorcery Style also. This can give GMs and Players a chance to discuss and share ideas to create such a new style.
