[Valis, Nari, Kashar - The Next Morning - Verdance Jailhouse]

"Oh lords of the Aether..." Valis awoke in a cube-shaped stone cell with several other characters from the pub last night. “Lovely. Like mother like son.” He muttered wryly. In one corner was a young feminine figure- that one that started the whole fiasco. “What are you doing here, miss? The rules state that women and men are- oh.”

“Haven’t I like, told you all already?♥” Nari turned around blindingly fast with a smile to boot towards Valis. “I’m like, a guy?♫” Mouths continued to drop in disbelief in response to this statement as it seemed no one could possibly believe that such a…. girl could be well, a guy. “Well it looks like you all are still a bit roughed up from last night, and even though they confiscated my mic, I can still patch you all up. A song for my beloved, hear me out!” He began to sing and everyone immediately began to heal up.

“Many thanks.. argh, however there still is no cure for this blasted headache.” Valis curled up and rubbed his temples. “I have… a friend- a woman, I believe- could you… see if she’s around?”

Nari’s voice paused for a second. “Hm, well right across from me, there’s a kinda greenish, big lady-thing? She’s gripping the bars pretty hard. Geez, can that cell even hold her? ♫” Nari continued, “Anyways, she seems to be staring at this cell.... Super intently…. Straight at you~♫ She your girlfriend? Hmm~? You can tell the idol the truth, a secret’s a secret with me A-L-W-A-Y-S! ♥” Then back to softly humming the healing song she went.

“Rather exaggerated of you, little rabbit.” Kashar leans back against the wall. Being the only female involved in the brawl, she had her own personal cell across from Valis and Nari.

“Excellent. Could you perhaps bend those bars and come over here so you could, oh I don’t know, crack my skull open? Anything to relieve this awful headache.” The pain subsided enough for Valis to be sarcastic. “I jest. What I mean to ask is, gods this is hard, would you accompany me to Meridian? I could use someone with your… expertise.”

“Ha! Boy, you need to check your priorities. We are stuck here for now, no weapons. And while I potentially could break us out, I would rather not be driven out of the village.” Kashar lent forward this time, resting her arms on her knees. “But if we were able to leave, I may just take you up on that offer.”

“Um, hel~lo? ♪” Nari snapped, derision now clear in his voice. The healing had all but stopped a while ago, leaving the surrounding side characters to their agony. “I’m, like, like, totally here y’know? What about me? I’m on the center stage! Ignoring my this… My pride as an idol just totally can’t ignore that! ♫” Nari puffed out his chest, huffing annoyedly at the two conversing deeply while ignoring the self-proclaimed-but-technically-actually-is-an-idol. “Anyways, I’m an idol in case you haven’t heard already. I’ve got plenty of gold stashed up from street performances, concerts, donations. We can get out. We have the technology… Huh, I mean, means.” Why’d I say that? Nari thought to himself, well, whatever.

“And the rabbit enjoys the sound of his own voice. For as famous as you believe yourself to be, I have never heard of you, nor your name,” Kashar said.

“Well, Ms. Complexion Murder, my name is Nari Usa, better known as Nari the Forest’s Voice by my fans. If you’ve never heard of me then the earliest time to start is now! Here are my CDs…. Huh? I mean, here are my magicordings, my signature, and a limited edition replica of my microphone!” Nari’s attitude just now seemed to be a complete lie as he pulled out the various listed items, apart from a CD, whatever that is, from his cloak and tossing them over to Kashar’s cell. Nari then turned to Valis. “So how ‘bout you, cutie~ ♥? Greenskin over there didn’t seem to like the idea about you two being an item so why not try batting for the other team once? ♫” Nari batted his eyelids innocently, seeming more maiden-like than ever. No one in their right mind could call him a guy. Probably. But still, what in Cthulhu’s name is a CD? Actually who’s Cthulhu?

Gods, he talks a lot. Curse this headache. “Pleased to make your acquaintance. I am Valis Garad, scion of the house Garad- or something like that. I am what my previous company called a ‘Dark Elf’. Much easier than explaining my heritage. As for your offer, I don’t quite understand, but I’m afraid I don’t have much interest in sports.” He turned his head to the orcish woman, “I apologize, I hadn’t even introduced myself properly.. I think. Who, may I ask, are you?”

“Kashar, of the Saurfang tribe. A hunter by trade. I may have done some guard work in the past. Good to make your acquaintance, Nari Usa, Valis Garad.”

“So my potentially buying them off aside, how are we gonna get out of here? Any bright ideas? Though I don’t expect much from a thick skull like Mr. Valis over here. ♫” Nari nodded.

“No clue. This cell’s size is started to get on my nerves. Besides that, Verdance is known for its incorruptible guards, no matter the amount you have.”

“Why don’t you bail us out of here, I’ll reimbu- oh right.” Valis pulled out a handful of berries to munch on while he thought. “We could barter with the authorities. Perhaps offer our services in exchange for our freedom?”

Kashar trailed her finger along one of the bars and said, “I do not see a better idea. Now, how to garner the attention of the guards”

“Hmm ♫ Well I do have one idea,” Nari mused as he pulled back out the magicording. “I mean you all know that I can alter something’s volume, so if I turn a song up by enough, they might come running to us. Don’t worry about your ears, I can also apply silencing to your ears as needed.” Nari began to hum a song, one that some from last night recognized so well that they began to groan in terror.

Suddenly, loud clanging erupted from Kashar’s cell. She had taken the replica microphone and started to run it across the bars.

“Or we could do that.” Valis muttered under his breath. Nari grinned wickedly and switched the target of his song to the microphone instead, causing the noise to become multiplied several times over. Most people that weren’t under Nari’s silencing enchantments ended up fainting. Again.

“What’s that noise?!” The warden came running, shouting.

“My apologies, I was just polishing my precious replica microphone,” Kashar said in a flat tone, almost as if recited. “After all, it was given to me by the Fall’s Noise, Rina, only the greatest idol on Urrgod.” At that, Nari’s ears pricked and glared at Kashar briefly before dropping his gaze.

“Well keep the racket down!” The warden exclaimed, turning around and getting ready to go back to his post.

“Wait up! ♪” Nari shouted at him, before he made his exit. “We want out. Now.”

“Well under the circumstances and your crimes, I don’t think that could possibly be-”

“Okay, look buddy. ♥ You got an idol here, you got a powerhouse of a sickly complexion over there, and you got some random guy who’s probably useful right next to me. We can offer our services, y’know~ ♫.” Nari said this all very quickly, and in one breath, leaving the warden sounding thoroughly confused until he digested the information. At that moment, another guard came in running through the door, talking to the warden. The trio could only hear snippets of their conversation but it went something like “... on the loose… twenty-third time this week… gotta stop it…” The warden’s eyes bulged at this news, and quickly turned back to the trio while the guard who made the report ran back out.

“Alright fine then, you three. I got a job. It might be a dangerous job, but your payment is your freedom,” The warden said. Then he sighed heavily. “I wouldn’t blame you if you wanted to decline but… At this point no one wants this job anymore. It’s just too dangerous. Some say it’s jinxed, like that one D***nse A**in*t T** D*rk A**s post at H**wa*ts. But if you can do it… you’re free to go.”

“We’ll take it,” Valis said immediately. The warden lifted an eyebrow as lines began creasing his forehead, beads of sweat beginning to dot it. “Very well then. Follow me.” He quickly let the trio out and led them into his office.

“Your mission, is to capture this cat. This is the twenty-third time it has escaped. It must be captured at all costs.”

Everyone looked dumbfounded as they gaped at the warden. Surely he wasn’t serious. After all, how… dangerous could a cat be?

[VerdanceBnB]

"Goshujinsama" Mochi said as she ran out of VerdanceBnB with toast in her mouth. Donning a wide-brimmed hat and fur trench coat as to not get skin cancer, she walked at a brisk pace towards the jailhouse. She needed to get there before the sun got too high and she got tired. Suddenly, she tripped on something.

>"MEEOWWRERRRAAWWWWW!"

Looking down at the place her feet crossed, she saw she had tripped over a cat.

>"Awww, I'm so sorry. You're so cute! Are you hungry? Here, have some toast"

The cat eyed her weirdly, muzzled her nose against Mochi's hand and then started to lick the toast.

>"Aww, it's ok, you can hav- wait what?"

At this point, the bread spontaneously combusted and the cat opened its mouth to expose 3 rows of razor sharp teeth and eviscerated the now charred toast.

>"I... I guess you're still cute... Kinda..."

The cat smiled at Mochi, said "Thanks", then bounded towards the city.

>"Huh."

Mochi continued to walk towards the jailhouse to see 3 figures emerge from the front door.

Colette rolled on her side, facing the opposite direction of the sun rays that poured through the window of her room at Verdance Bed and Breakfast.
After several minutes of tossing and turning, she finally sat up and set her feet on the floor.
"How could anyone possibly sleep comfortably on that thing?" she murmured grouchily to herself while scratching the side of her scalp. "I have to complain to administration about this, this kind of service is absolutely unacceptable!" And with those words, while still clad in her silky sleep gown, she stampeded across the hallway and down the winding staircase into the lobby of the humble inn. As expected, the floor was generally abandoned, with several guests reading spell books and marking maps by the common fireplace. Marching toward the front desk, she slammed her fists on the table and made the horrified clerk jump. The slim adolescent turned to gawk at the pier of work before him, his long fingers shaking and his teeth chattering as the mistress spoke.
"EXCUSE ME!" she roared, eliciting a whimper from the poor receptionist. "How DARE you!"
"P-pardon?" the boy managed to say.
"I have just experienced injustice this morning!" Colette cried, throwing her hands in the air, causing nearby mages to glance at her in annoyance.
"A-and wh-what would that be, miss?" the shaken clerk stammered.
"I SLEPT on a plank of WOOD! With a MATTRESS and a PILLOW on it! What kind of a BED is THAT?!" Colette screamed as the receptionist flinched at each emphasised word.
"Um.. a normal one?" he whispered.
"NO!" the temperamental brat bellowed. "THAT is a COT."
"O-oh," the clerk boy said, as if he was receiving some sort of revolutionary lesson about the concept of a bed.
"Of course."
"So?" Colette belted. "Aren't you supposed to provide me with some sort of compensation for this horrible service? Like a free foot massage or palm reading or something?"
"W-well no," the receptionist stuttered. "W-we can give a free br-breakfast if that would appease y-your u-um, dissatisfaction?"
Colette's face immediately lit up. "Thank you so much!"

After an uneventful meal of eggs, wild beast bacon, and healthy minerals and herbs, Colette proceeded to organise her belongings into her favorite white knapsack. After everything was stored properly, she decided to make her way to Meridian. Now that she has been disowned by her family, Colette has made it a goal for herself to find some sort of magical apprenticeship or training on the city. That way, she will be able to hone her skills and finally prove to her superiors that her rare gifts were not barbaric or shameful, but a treasure.

Skipping giddily in the sunlight, stomach full with a might she add, free-of-charge meal, Colette stumbled upon a group of four intimately discussing a topic.
"What could these mangy peasants be talking about?" she wondered to herself as she strolled past, making it a point to exaggerate her happiness of her free (Emphasis on "free) breakfast by humming loudly and laughing for no reason.

"Well that was nice of them to let us out on good faith. I suppose bar fights break out all the time here." Valis rubbed his temple for a little bit, there was only a dull throb left. "Now that we're rested and sober, how about we start making way for Meridian, hm?" He looked at his companions and felt there was something he failed to address.

Kashar adjusted her bandolier that strapped the greataxe to her back, feeling grateful at the return of her weapon. She tapped Valis' shoulder and asked, "Young Valis, about our release... The cat?"

"The what?" Valis scratched his head for a moment, "Oh, right. Well, you see: that was an excuse for them to let us out- documentation and that sort of thing. We weren't really in trouble. I mean really, who would let a couple of prisoners out to go fetch a cat?" Valis chuckled at this, "We're absolutely free to go, my friend."

"Oh man, it sure does feel good to be free ♪"

Nari stretched out his arms and legs and then promptly began prancing around Kashar and Valis while they talked. The thought of a cat chase did seem super boring but upon hearing Valis say that they were totally free, Nari's mood significantly brightened.

"So, where are you guys headed? Meridian, right? I have a concert sometime in Meridian so I'll be heading there too! Hey, I might tag along ♫" Nari said with a smile. Then he thought for a second and frowned. "Well, only if you two are fine with that, I wouldn't want to be a nuisance. ♥"

Nari then stopped ahead of them, hands behind his back and slightly bent forward, almost as if he was a childhood friend confessing in front of his crush's house after school. "So I'll ask formally here - may I accompany you two to Meridian? ♥♪♫" Having completed that task, Nari then gave a blinding smile and went back to prancing around again.

[Outside jailhouse]

Mochi was at a crossroads. Did she want to talk? What would they think about her? They probably wouldn't have any idea who she was, since she hid from them all. Well, at least she could settle things in her heart if she knew they survived the fight. They looked suspicious, but all adventurers looked suspicious. Heck, she looked ten times as suspicious as the others combined, with the wide brimmed hat that obscured her face and the trenchcoat that hid her entire body. She held her breath and started walking purposefully towards the three, trying to make herself seem as big as possible.

[Valis, Kashar and Nari view]

A figure wearing a wide brimmed hat that obscured its face and a long trenchcoat is seen by all 3 adventurers. It appears to be walking very shakily and with its hands clasped together as if it was experiencing intense chest pain.

"Yes, I don't see why not." Valis said in response to Nari's question. "The more the merrier!" He exclaimed with a grin.

A mountain of clothes walked toward the group seeming to be asking for something. So, in a Valis-like fashion, he assailed the person with questions. "Yes? Can I help you? Would you like some money? Some food? Could you speak up? Or is there something in your throat? Are you ill? Let me come over to make things easier." The elf quickly strode over to the figure.

[Mochi]

"Um! I saw the bar fight yesterday, and I was wondering if you guys were in trouble or anything... Where are you guys going? Why... are you getting closer..."

Kashar places her hand on Valis’ shoulder to keep him from getting too close and making Mochi uncomfortable. “We are fine, thank you for your concern. Now, you, on the other hand, will you be okay?”

“Yeah...”

23 extremely awkward seconds pass while Mochi tries to think of something to say

“Are you guys... adventurers?”

“Adventurers? Well, kinda? Sorta? Not ♫ really? Well I’m an I♥D♥O♥L, you see?” Nari had one finger at his mouth and the other tapping his head while looking confusedly up at nothing in particular. “Well, you two wanna answer that for her I guess? I’m not really much use ♪. Teehee~ ♥♪♫” Nari then stuck his tongue out, winked, and punched himself on top of the head lightly.

“REALLY? omgomgomgomgomg” Mochi started jumping around Nari looking at every fold of his pretty average costume. “I’ve read so many books about idols but since I lived in a small village I never got to see any. Where are you going to sing next?????????”

“Meridian, actually, y’know that like, suuuuuuuper big human place? ♫” Nari flashed another smile as he began to pull a lot of merchandise out again, handing them over to Mochi. “Here, take this! It’ll be worth loads once my following gets bigger! ♪”

“Meridian? That’s where I’m going! Can I come with you? I’ll cheer you on in the crowds of people there!”

“Dunno ♥!” Nari said, looking at Valis and Kashar for approval.

“Absolutely! Why not?” Valis smiled.

"Hmmmmm? You guys are traveling with her? Hmph. And here I thought I was going to get some time with an idol alone. I guess I'll go with you two also. It's not like I need you or anything... baka..."

A line of red across her face can be seen from under the brim of Mochi's hat.

“D’aw, for a super dedicated fan, some alone time can be arranged any time~ ♥ Just don’t worry ‘bout it, y’kno-"

Nari's words are cut short as Mochi wraps herself around him and starts pushing her face into his chest

"Hehe... Haaa.. heheh... Mmmm... So this is the chest where a voice even the gods praise comes from..."

“Ehhh, ummmm, ♫??” Nari looked totally clueless due to his flaming homosexuality making it so that contact with females only made things absurdly awkward. Seeing no other choice, Nari had to do it. “You’ve been struck by…” After singing those words, Nari became completely unnoticeable to everyone, thus escaping the awkward situation without confrontation.

"Heee...heh-wait, where'd she go?" Looking very lost and slightly dejected, Mochi started turning around trying to locate the idol with less success than she had hoped for. Like a chicken without a head she started walking around aimlessly shouting "ooooooi! Idol-chan! Where are you?"

“... A smooth criminal.” Nari finished, and jabbed his hand at Mochi’s neck, knocking her out instantly. “Whew, good thing I got good at dealing with rabid fangs. Huh, I meant fans. ♫” Though as Mochi sprawled out across the ground, one could see slight fangs poking out of her mouth.

Hefting the unconscious girl onto her shoulder, Kashar turned to the group and pointed towards another girl who was desperately trying to garner their attention. “I think we have another interested in this growing group of misfits.”

“Excuse me!" Colette yelped, while waving her arms around ostentatiously in the air. After several moments of realizing she was being ignored, she doubled the magnitude of her voice in order to garner the attention of the group clustered in front of her nose. "UM. EXCAYOOSE ME!"

Immediately, the group of four stopped in their tracks and turned to view the piece of work before them. Pearly white hair arranged into a loose side ponytail that cascaded to her waist as well as crystal blue eyes narrowed into suspicious slits were complemented by the silvery dress fashioned out of feathers that swept the floor as she walked.

START COLETTE INNER DIALOGUE

AsHmmm, well finally I have the attention of these disgusting, filthy peasants. Now let's see here. Okay, well, we have the flamboyant he-she thing that thinks it owns the world. Little does it know.. OH! And then that really short not so good-looking leader who-cha-ma-callit what's his name.. Vase? And then that stupid orc girl with the gag-worthy skin who thinks she knows everything. What was her name.. Cash? Is she carrying a pile of clothes on her shoulder? Is she homeless? Oh Meridian! Whatever. The details aren't important. All I know is that this gang of losers will be my.. shields! In case I get hijacked or kidnapped or both!

END COLETTE INNER DIALOGUE

Colette cleared her throat and opened her mouth to speak.
"My name is Colette!" she roared, as if making some sort of controversial statement.
Valis, Kashar and Nari all blinked in confusion.

“My name is Nari! ♫” Nari shouted back with equal force, as if trying to compete with Colette’s making some sort of controversial statement. It looked like a ring with two tigresses circling each other warily, though one was actually a tiger. There was a literal fire burning in Nari’s eyes as the staring contest reached its all-time high.

Valis bowed slightly, “Valis Garad. Scion of the house Garad.” He said cheerily, ignorant to the tense atmosphere that appeared seemingly out of nowhere.

“Kashar. Saurfang tribe.”

“Well, I am a descendant of the Marcilles..” Colette dropped nonchalantly, expecting everyone within a 5 meter radius to ask for her autograph, faint, or some combination of the two.

“Marcilles, hm?” Valis stared at the girl intently, as if using her visage to recall a name. “I believe… Mother spoke of them a handful of times. Would you care to tell me what land the Marcille family hails from?”

Colette exhaled very deeply and folded her arms across her chest. She thought profusely about how she would be able to possibly educate this obviously ill-informed mongrel. Well, let’s face it. There’s nothing Colette can’t do. No, wait! This Vase peasant is just kidding around. Even a lowly commoner like that would know which land the Marcilles have originated from!
“Excuse me, is this some sort of joke?” Colette asked, arching an eyebrow, her pupils darting suspiciously from one member of the group to the next.

“I’m sorry, I simply cannot recall where the Marcilles are from.” Valis shrugged, “I personally didn’t care too much for politics.”

Colette stared at Valis for 23 moments of disbelief before arranging the cluster into a classroom-like formation.
“Okay no, this.. this just can’t be!” she exclaimed. “Allow me to explain, you poor peasants who desperately require my instruction. The Marcilles hail from Perchia, the prosperous land northwest of Meridian. Not that any of you would know, since you have obviously never receved a day of schooling before, but we are a dynasty of aristocrats! A family of wealthy merchants, landlords, um.. what else, medics, let’s see.. oh! Agricultural specialists! The Marcilles are simply the political and social elite of the kingdom! Need I say more? And please.. PLEASE raise your hand if you have a question! I really hate to be interrupted..”

“Oh, yes!” Valis’ expression brightened, “Those Marcilles! If I remember correctly… they had a sole daughter. What is the heiress of an empire doing here without any sort of entourage?”

“U-um..” Colette stammered, suddenly at a complete loss for words. She glanced around nervously, crossed and uncrossed her arms, and even stomped the ground in frustration. “I-I’m just on a trip is all! I w-wanted to be independent from that menagerie of butlers and maids and page boys that kiss every single square foot of ground I step on. Th-they’re just annoying is all.”

“Splendid!” Valis clapped his hands together. “Why don’t you join us? We’re on our way to Meridian- unless you came from there already?”

Colette pursed her lips. She was still awfully suspicious of the gang of characters she only recently met. What if they were bandits? Drug dealers? They were clearly not very.. endowed to say the least.
“F-fine! I was just on my way over.” Colette finally agreed. “So do I get an elephant to ride on or something? Or do you people expect me to like walk..? Like on my own?”

“Well.. You could ride on Kashar’s other shoulder!” He looked over at his orcish companion, “Perhaps you should ask her first?”

“I think walking on your own two feet is an important part of becoming independent,” Kashar said.

Colette’s face immediately contorted into one very angry, extremely dissatisfied, extraordinarily upset mass of flesh. “UGH!” she screamed, jumping up and down on the concrete floor. She even went as far as lying down. “I AM DEMONSTRATING PASSIVE RESISTANCE!” When no one seemed to care, she started rolling around. Incessantly. Finally, when nobody responded to her the way she desired, she eventually stood up, dusted herself off, and exhaled impatiently.

“Okay.” she obliged reluctantly.

“Okay, so like, I used to think I acted like that? ♪” Nari said, with a disbelieving smile on his face, “But after witnessing it firsthand, I think I can like, safely say I’m waaaaay better? ♥” All the while staring at Colette and drawing a line across his throat with his finger, pointing at Colette, and then winking with a strong, detectable bloodlust.

It was at this time that the pile of clothes on Kashar's shoulder began to move. Slowly, groggily at first, Mochi began to flail her arms like wet noodles and mumbled "waaaaaaait....idol-chan...... I'm not done with you yet...... I'm going to hug you forever and ever...........heheeeee.... haaah-whA?" As she tumbled off Kashar's shoulder onto the ground. Rubbing her head, she said "where...am I? Who is that?"

“Marcille.. Co… Colette! Colette Marcille, of the Marcille family. She’ll be joining us on our journey to Meridian as well.” Valis explained.

Colette rolled her eyes to the top of her head and has officially lost her patience with the group. “I simply refuse to acknowledge the existence of that he-she thing or whatever there. And I guess I will postpone the pile of rags’ lesson for later. Now can we get a move-on, Vase?”

“Valis.” He snapped. His face was partially obscured by his hood, but a scowl could be made out. “My name is Valis. Please be sure to remember it.” He raised his face and the bright expression returned, “Yes, shall we go, Kashar- Nari?”
Colette scoffed at Valis reasonably standing up for himself. “Whatever.”

"Yup. I knew it. She's gone past the oujou-sama point of no return. If you'll excuse me, I'll be going back to the inn to pick up my belongings then spend the rest of the trip protecting idol chan from miss Colgate here." Mochi began walking towards the general direction of VerdanceBnB. Then she stopped, turned around, and said "By the way, thanks Valis, for asking, yes I would like to depart". Then she stuck her tongue out at the elf and continued walking towards the inn.

Nari hoped that he wouldn’t have to, ah, stop Mochi again, but hoped to maybe knock out Colette in the future. Just maybe. Higher-ups always need a bit of humbling, after all. Also they say the Marcille family’s well-connected enough. Maybe I can get the information I need for the Idolnomicon or on the nobles who #rekt my family~ ♥♪♫

[VerdanceBnB, Mochi-nyan perspective]

Mochi opened the door to her room, closed it behind her, closed the windows, took off her clothes and passed out. After all, she had been awake for a while, and it was past her bedtime. She just hoped they wouldn't leave without her. Or walk in on her in this state, as she was quite exposed. Plus that would let sunlight in through the hallway. Bad.

Still, who was that spoiled oujou-sama? She was definitely part vampire, that Mochi could sense. Colette probably couldn't tell that Mochi was a vampire through scent alone, or rather didn't care enough to observe closely. Hmm.

I seem to have joined a rather, interesting, band of travelers. Rather chaotic, that is. Giving an absent nod to Valis, Kashar thought about her travels ahead. I worry for them. Our world is a harsh one. The road to Meridian is not one clear of danger.
