"Yes.." Valis' expression dimmed slightly. He was overjoyed to be traveling with company, but that meant having to keep track of more people. "We're safe about half a day's walk toward Meridian... But there are most definitely thieves lurking around because Meridian is a large center of commerce." And if we're packing heavy, we're easy targets, Valis looked over the current "party", "Would any of you happen to have a cart or a pack mule around?" He directed at the group with smile.

"Me? Have a cart? ♫" Nari thought for a second. "Nooooope~ ♥"

Well of course even though he was an idol, he still traveled by foot because he himself knew he had no sense of responsibility to take care of a cart, much less a living thing such as a horse or donkey. Of course the little miss oujou-sama over there probably was the same way.

Wow, it's almost frustrating how much we kinda have in common. Makes me want to punch something, or maybe toss a nuke so that I can't hear her voice anymore. Maybe that'll work.

"Well, if anyone else has some sorta transportation, lemme know, I'll be sitting over there~ ♥♪♫"

Having said his piece, Nari pulled out Blögh, plopped onto a nearby seat-like stone, and began to write the day's events in it, wondering what else would be happening. Of course, the entire time he never noticed small, wispy, shadowy tendrils drifting out of Blögh. Nari's eyes began lightly glowing green and the humming became deep, primal, and guttural. The sky darkened, animals fled, and it looked as if a storm was about to set in while the group looked uneasily at the sudden appearance of dark clouds. A large shadowy tendril began reaching out toward the unsuspecting adventurers just as Nari finished recording. He snapped Blögh shut and went back to dancing around, and the darkness receded as though it were a complete lie. Of course, no one noticed the seeming trance that Nari went into as they were totally distracted by the change in the scenery.

Mochi was awakened by a strange furry feeling on her leg. She sat up in bed, looked down and spotted the cat from earlier in the day. She stared in disbelief that anything could get into her room without her noticing. Stroking its back, which had some blunt bony spikes sticking out, she said to the cat "aren't you a sneaky little kitty youuu~" to which it replied "not cat. am baby manticore."

"O."

"Let me tell you my life story" said the manticore.

[Walking around town]

"...and so, as I was of a rare species, I was put into a cage in the town zoo. As this isn't really as much a town as a collection of buildings with about 2.7 people living in it, the zoo meant a cage. They always forgot to feed me, so I had to escape every time I got hungry, which was about once every 3 days at max. You were the first one not to run away, and you fed me, so I like you a lot." The manticore continued to walk alongside Mochi.

"oooooooo... I like you a lot, too! Although you /are/ kinda scary, I think you're really cute and I want to keep you! Can I? Pleasepleaseplease?"

"wha-I thought I was keeping you as a pet!" The manticore stuck out its tongue and said "Of course. What is your name?"

"Oh, Mochi! What's yours?"

"I... well, no one's ever given me a name before..."

"Ooooh... how about... Mi-chan?"

"Mi...chan?"

"It's perfect! Mi-chan~"

The two neared the jailhouse as they ran out of places to go.

Colette crossed her arms in disapproval as she tapped her feet on the ground.
"Oh my Meridian!" she screamed. "When is that filthy ragdoll going to get here already? We need to head to Tesaetanmo before it gets dark! You guys are such a waste of my time!"
She stormed around in a couple of circles. "I hate this. I should have never chosen to join with you gang of creeps. If only my butler were here with me.. he is both efficient and loyal. He would sweep me off my feet and carry me hundreds of miles at a time. Unlike you ugly, dirty peasants that won't even let me sit on their shoulders." She shot Kashar a dirty look.

"Anyway, before any of you peasants get entangled into some other uncontrollable mess, I suggest we head down that path," Colette suggested, pointing a halfhearted finger toward a dirt path winding into a cluster of overgrown foliage and shrubbery. "I don't know about you people, but I am already adequately armed. I sincerely hope you didn't forget something back at that dingy excuse of a hotel."

And with a toss of her hair behind her shoulder, she directed her journey into the woods.

"Waaaaaaaait! I'm coming!"

Mochi ran up to the group, carrying her backpack with her clothes and research. Mi-chan ran up behind her, and jumped onto her shoulder.

"Shall we go then?" Kashar asks, ignoring Colette's remark.

Valis chuckled, "Yes, let us go," He looked down the path at the backs of the two newest additions to the party, "We have some interesting company,". Valis walked onward, keeping a close hand to where his weapon was sheathed.

The group began walking as twilight set in, and walked for a while before the first of the troubles struck. They discovered this when they sat down to rest and not one person made a move to open their packs.

"So uh... Did like, anyone bring any food? ♪" Nari sheepishly twirled around and asked before quickly turning back around and finding a tree stump to sit on to finish recording the day's events in Blögh. As soon as Blögh was opened, the weary travelers could hear birds above them fleeing, causing the trees to rustle. A dog from quite a distance away was barking and a wolf could be heard howling at the moon. There was a horrible squealing, when suddenly a pig dropped from the sky behind Nari and the rest of the group, accompanied by a tendril of darkness with a bunch of whispering noises.

"... and so, even though there's no food, an idol's gotta persevere through, y'know! ♥♪♫" Nari finished writing in Blögh and snapped it shut again, causing the tendril to retreat unseen back into the book. The peaceful aura of the forest had returned once more and the group finally drew their attention to the dead pig.

"Huh, that sure was convenient," someone muttered before they set about cooking dinner.

As dusk fell upon the group, Mochi began to remove her clothing. Dinner was finished, and Mochi was clad in a shirt and pleated skirt and thigh highs.

"I'll scout ahead!" Mochi said with a satanic presence.

Mochi got up and left the group. Nearing a clearing in the nearby forest, she spread her wings and took off. After her nightly flying exercises, she began to fly around. She could see much, much farther in the night, and although she had been awake for most of the day, she was still very conscious.

"Geez. Remind me never to pull an all-dayer."

She could see their camp, the distant edge of the forest, a nearby mountain, Meridian in the far, far, far distant corner and the main road that wound around several villages and crossed a few rivers.

She also spotted her childhood friend, werewolf-niichan howling at the moon from a cliff on the nearby mountain. Wow, his voice was loud.

Kashar squatted by the river near camp and rinsed off the stew pot. She then sealed it back into a convenience talisman. The technology had been developed by the archmages of Meridian. Human magisters have always been the most practical of the magical society. Surprisingly, the party of five was able to finish off the small pig, leaving only bones and gristle bits. Good appetite these kids have.

Returning the talisman to her bandolier, another metal token fell from one of the pockets. Kashar's eyes darkened as she reached for it. It was a small rectangular tablet that fit in the palm, emblazoned with a spire-like coat of arms.

Kashar traced her half mask with unease and looked back towards the camp.

He looks so much like you.
