Basically the same thing I've been saying, limit the abiity for people to become capable of handling themselves in any situation and not necessarily "needing" anybody. Through the rp events we've had, no one's ever really been in danger or at their wits end. Everyone has a solution, and everyone's capable of playing any role. Defender, infantry, diplomat, mass destruction, w/e. To me, it's boring. Before I get the "We don't focus on fighting anymore" thing, it's not just fighting. It has to do with basic rp too. When your character is confident to face anything they go up against (which is extremely rare even amongst the strongest in the marvel universe) fighting based, or story based, it becomes dry. Especially when everyone can/is doing it. Remove any one of us from any event we've ever had and the outcome would have been the same. So my suggesion? Specialize if you want to be useful. If you're well-rounded, you won't be really useful if you have to fill a certain role. Just in a basic manner. It's the classic good at everything, but great at nothing saying. You can and will be outshined by specialists. Making people actually necessary for things like building a good security system, or infiltrating somewhere, sweet talking a potential ally, these things make RP engaging and everyone has a part to play. If everyone's just as disposable as the next, ya might as well play a second-life RP and chill at home and cuddle all RP. To help with this comes my add-on suggestion to make abilities less broad. The power of lightning has a mass amount of applications, so does pure energy, psychic powers, dimensional powers, undead powers, even nullification. I like how Boku no Hero does things where you only have these powers to a limit. Like there's a difference between someone bringing down lighting from the sky and someone who shoots it from their hands. Or touching someone to nullify their powers or just nullifying the manifestation of powers that you come in contact with. (I.E. cutting off someone's ability to make fire by touch vs. stopping only the fire you come in contact with). It adds variety to the world and makes it so that people don't just cover their needs in any way they please. It's okay to be powerless sometimes. It's called having a role and learning how you play it. It makes you useful and the others around you useful as well. Lets people become imaginative with how they deal with their life and situations instead of creating fail-safe customs. Like I said, some MAY do such things to cover all their bases, but then they become exceptional at nothing by becoming a jack of all trades. And when a serious situation comes up, they get rekd. This is just what I think would make things more fun, and why. Again, if the argument is we don't fight as much anymore, so it doesnt matter, then why bother making a marvel rp? Might as well be second-life with people dicking around. Almighty powers are rare even Marvel and the point of an RP isn't to have a MAIN villain or MAIN protagonist. It's for everyone to be on the same level. You do that by limiting people from trying to become gods. If everyone eventually grows into a gods, it's boring as fuck. |
