Hello and Welcome to this ever evolving, updating and ever flowing guide for our beauty Zelda! Here we will talk about her combos, strengths, weaknesses, match up against other characters and even how amazing she can be. This guide will be ran by myself Azure Torisuna and any contribution will be added to the post here below in the appropriate section with credit given to the supplier of info. However just take a glance at the sections and look over whatever you wish to try and find. Any Zelda players or players that play other characters are free to talk about your character vs her so we can understand weaknesses of each match up. And Remember this post will always be getting more info as time goes on. It might be barren now. But in time it will be filled with Wisdom! To Start off here We will talk about basic Combos! Down Throw > Shorthop/Jump > Neutral Air = You can do this on just about anyone and is easy damage. This takes timing and coordination to pull off effectively. After an opponent dash attacks you- Neutral B > Dash attack = Very good punish and is safe to do even if blocked. Aloows for a roll away if it didnt connect. After an opponent attacks your shield- Up B > Hold up = You will do whats called the elevator and it has great kill potential around 75% plus. Up Tilt > Back Air > Dash Attack = very good true combo at lower percents and allows for a good mix up game. Grabbing an enemy near the edge of the stage and back throwing them off the stage with 80% or more might spell death for them. {Will add more combos later} Notable play styles that work for others. (They might work in your favor) Playing a Passive Aggressive style on fast characters.= Bait the opponent to go in and you shield punish them with an over smash or down tilt. What your goal here is to pick up on their habits. Most players will have predictable patterns that Zelda can punish and allow her once the opponent is on the defensive she can throw out some dash attack chains or even get off the sweet spot for her kicks. While playing this style you will want to figure out when to attack and when you choose to attack make it simple. Zelda doesnt have that many approach options so the punish will have to be very off setting. When playing characters with projectiles you will want to space and play at their pace till they get comfy throwing out projectiles and you should follow suit with Up B attacks when they use their projectiles. This wont work on everyone but that will be up to you to decide. To note on this style you will be campy until the opponent is punished and then mix up going with follow ups or just standing there. You want to be unpredictable while playing this style. Next Style is= Throw combos and retreating forward airs. These can pay off but you can be punished due to Zelda's move lag at times. You would be best to play this at higher percents or on larger characters your dont have to worry about projectiles. Fast falling is your friend in this style and so is Neutral B if they get in on you. All in all this style is more for the lucky. {More to Come} Match Up Section! Mario vs Zelda-v- This is some what of a Tough call. Mario's ability to react to many treats due to his fast attacks and low frame attacks is what makes Zelda have to beware going in on punishes. The Good= Range. With the exception of Mario's own Forward smash Zelda generally can outreach mario with moves like jab, Forward tilt and Fsmash. To counter Marios speed you want to make good use of Zelda's range. The Elevator kills Mario @ 70% before rage and during rage the elevator kills at 50%, while not fullproof it does allow Zelda to Fish for a kill at an earlier percent than Mario can kill. We can down tilt Mario below the ledge, and Down smash can still force Mario into a bad position because it forces him to recover low if it hits. Mario is weak from below, so attempts to Up air are optional. Mario has a average recovery, so Dair attempts are possible if Mario is recovering low. and even if he's not offstage harassment for a few added percents never hurts. The Bad= Mobility. Mario is short and very mobile making it easy for him to capitalize on anything Zelda does that is too laggy. This also allows mario to Up air Zelda from below if he gets her in the air. Zelda is also succeptible to Mario up tilt combos. Fireballs, while shieldable do allow Mario to camp, approach, bait, and control space due to how they function and Marios mobility. despite Zelda being able to get an early Elevator kill Mario's Up smash kills at 108% is also partially invincible. Back air, back throw, and down smash all kill around 120 near the ledge, offstage. outside of Elevator Zelda also kills Mario around these percents with other moves. Mario's Forward smash can contest with Zelda's reach and also can kill her around 85% with Rage but usually requires a read to land, but be wary. Cape and Fludd can mess with Zelda's spacing with fludd/cape potentially gimping Zelda's recovery if she's not careful or getting pushed off when using dins. Mario can pester Zelda offstage with fireballs and other aerials to rack up extra damage where even if he doesn't gimp her, she still took added percents on the way back to the stage. Key Notes here are Keep mario at range by using your down tilts and forward smashes. You must make him respect your space so he stays mid range. This will help out because his approaches will be easier to deal with. Down smash or forward airs will help out a lot. Shield punishing with back throws are great against him. Stage Notes: Try not to take Mario to any stages that have platforms. His mobility is crazy even when it comes down to platform juggling. So an Omega stage or even FD will be your best bet. Additional Notes: Use Phantom as a defensive tool when the Mario will camp Fire balls or even when he approaches. Conclusion on match up= I believe if Zelda plays this right she has a good chance. But Mario does have her in close range. So its more of a 50-50 split in character. Its up to the Players here to out play the other. ================================================================= Link vs Zelda -v- This match up is another tough call. Link has Grab range and a great assortment of projectiles. His Smash attacks are devastating and his dash attack is annoying if you roll wrong or he reads it. The Good= We have a Stronger range attack. Link has many projectiles but we have Dins Fire and Phantom to shut them out. Plus we have Nayrus Love. Using them to shut down his projectile game will be Key here. Once we get in they will either try and roll to begin their escape and a good read on the roll will result in us Hitting with a Forward smash attack. If they roll a lot then B up in the direction they are rolling and you will hit most likely. Link is slow and has laggy attacks. Capitalize on how his moves make him vulnerable like his sword plant or over smash. Punish Boomerang or Arrow with Up B assaults. Keep in mind space on the projectiles. The Bad= He has up close covered. Zelda doesnt want to be up close when he is on the assault. His up smash is strong and Link will use it as a means to kill often. His Forward smash can catch us off guard and put a damper on Zelda's up close game. He can grab Zelda with his hook shoot at range leading into more un needed combos. His projectiles are a deadly game to allow him to play. Most of Links attacks can kill around 80% or so. His neutral air poke can disrupt Most of Zelda's air attacks. Key Notes here are to keep Link out of grab range while showing him his projectile game isnt working on Zelda. Once he lets up the barrage of boomerang, bombs and arrows you can approach from air or an up close bait and read his roll. The key thing is to make an opening and stop his projectile game. Stage Notes= Take Link to a Stage with platforms. This will limit his down air and most of his smash attacks. Conclusion on match up is Zelda should be the victor if she can stop the projectile game which she is more than capable of. So its a 65-35 in favor of Zelda. But Is still a deadly close game other wise. {More characters Soon} |
