S'King Archipelago • • • Brief Island Description: A series of small islands, each only roughly 100 paces across, that are all connected by stone bridges (themselves about 200 paces long each). This Archipelago is made up of about one hundred of these islands, and is situated directly over a massive Sea Kings Nest, or series of nests really. Realistically, it is a place few people go, as it has very little appeal to anyone looking for treasure or anything, and is full of Sea Kings randomly appearing and destroying bridges - or entire islands if angry. Locations: Worm Town: A small village held together by about six of the stone bridges but elevated by similar stone constructs. These constructs appear as small castles on each of the small islands, the sides of them completely smooth to the point it can deflect any wanton strike of a sea king though such events at this height are rare. There are a dozen of these elevated wood and stone, mountain-like structures and each houses a family in the lower section and one above. These large houses are very pleasant inside with outside noise entirely muted by the stone and usually either naturally lighted by high windows or lamps and candles. People here make a good living with the seafood they gather. The people are also extremely tough, most of the adults capable of going in pairs and defeating a sea king or defending their homes against one. There are about eighty people altogether living in this village. Business is generally about selling sea king meat, eggs, and parts for various uses. This asides, fishing and seafood is abundant thanks to the expertise of these locals. Though this isn't exactly what could be considered an ideal tourist location it is a place to turn to for local advise and one of the two habituated areas of S'King Archipelago. But a small herbalist, one-man pharmacy and one or two places people buy and sell things exist in this small town making it a livable place to dock ones' boat before being on their way. Hook's: The small establishment sitting four bridges away from Worm Town, this stand alone pub that appears more like a fish and chip shop is one of S'King Archipelago's main sources of entertainment. Though it has a small exterior it in fact holds three levels that dig into the elevated island structure it sits on. The interior design is very traditional Celtic, much like the living spaces of the people here. Candles flicker upon the walls and the chandeliers hanging from the ceilings, high, all of them. The chairs are ornately designed, even with dragon heads and almost always wooden as are the tables. Small open fires with open roasting pits sit in open spaces built within the wood-and-stone floors with potatoes, herbs, and meats for patrons to put on the spit and roast at their leisure. Upon entering one walks into a bar and seating area, with the bar, baristas and chefs in the middle of the room working behind the counter. Patrons sit around this central setup and the roasting spits. Stairs lead to the open lower level where more games such as darts, pool, cards, drinking games, karaoke, quizzes and all manner of events are held. This area is a little brighter than the typical lighting of the subdued pub, and is the epicenter of any music playing in the bar, which in turn provides the ambient environment of the other two floors. The lowest floor is another bar and seating area though this is more of a lounge. The wooden seating is complimented cushions somewhat, and the air is filled with the aroma of local flowers, candles burning and lulling patrons into a peaceful, reflective state. This is most often where patrons go after a particularly hard day at work and likewise a very popular room for tourists who are very new to S'King Archipelago. Its bar is situated in the back of the room as opposed to the middle like the other two floors, fire burning and spits still situated conveniently for patrons to cook their chosen meats, potatoes or vegetables on the fire and garnish it with the few but powerful local herbs. Fisherman's Peak: Home of an enormous harpoon, Fishermans' Peak is the last remaining giant harpoon gun on S'King Archipelago. Shaped as a giant crossbow and held on a rotating turret stand it is still operable and still in use by the locals. It is attached to a larger towing mechanism fortified by three individual ropes. These three thick seaworthy ropes then tie to make a super-rope that holds the harpoon fired by the giant crossbow. The crossbow sits upon one of the highest Islands above the seas of S'King Archipelago and is manned by four local fishermen day and night, every day, all year. Harpoons for this weapon are eight feet long and as thick as a human leg. The tips are serrated and curled at the base to ensure the harpoon itself remains in its target, though there is a mechanism to cut the rope itself should the need arise. The aim of this weapon is to spear sea kings with the harpoon and tow them up to the Island itself for marketable use. There used to be a dozen harpoons total, however all but one were destroyed by the Sea Kings. The remaining weapon, a fisherman's tool, sits on an Island apparently just out of reach of the sea kings' wrath. The fishermen who station themselves at this weapon remain vigilant and always do shifts in pairs, with two men sleeping and two awake in rotations, as it is a well known fact that the sea kings try to this day to destroy the final super-crossbow. |
