Terrence on the outside was a typical high school sophomore going to Riverside High. On the inside, he was far from typical. Can one spell typical with w-i-n-g-s? No. Terry Arcadia was a boy who had wings. However, the small blessing was that he could sprout them and make them disappear at will as well. He thanked his lucky stars that they weren’t a permanent fixture on his body otherwise he’d be laughed at or even worse, hated. Maybe even taken to some lab and experimented on. His adopted parents thought nothing of the appendages. The wings had no bearing on the kindness and love they showed him, they just make him special. Despite this, they kept secrets from him. He would occasionally ask about his past and the answers came down to that they would be answered in time. The subconscious provided what words didn’t and his dreams were often filled with encountering people like him for good or for ill. His one memento from this mysterious past was his ring which he had worn for years. He was supposed to go on a field trip today with the rest of his class to the museum. He wished he could tell his friends about himself, but his adopted father Professor Horatio Carmichael thought that this was dangerous. He once said “If you don't hide the fact that you have wings, bad things could happen. I don’t want to see you get hurt or taken away from us. You understand.” Despite these secrets, there were clues. His father, who was a professor of anthropology and archeology, taught him Greek and enrolled him in archery and fencing lessons. He desired to spread them and fly whenever he wanted. Geez, why does it have to be a birthday gift!? On his birthday or around that time, they would drive out to the countryside far away from the city and let him fly for as long as he wished before going to a small nearby town to eat lunch before heading home. As he got to school, he whispered to himself, “I wish I could sprout my wings. At least I’d know what the reaction would be.” Patience is both a blessing and a curse. He didn’t want to hide forever, but sadly, it looked like his true self would remain hidden. (ooc: This story is open to all. While my character's fantasy based, yours doesn't have to be. If you have questions about this RP, let me know through email or PM.) |

ooc: Hope you don't mind but I joined the roleplay...I liked the idea! bic: Alaia Dickinson...A normal teenage girl going to school..NOT! Normal? To most people, yes but to a few..far from normal... Alaia woke and stretched..She wished she was sick this morning...She hated going to school..She loved learning but she was always afraid that someone would discover her secret...She dressed and walked downstair. Her adopted mother was standing at the kitchen counter, making Alaia a lunch, just how she liked it! Her mom said "How are you doing?" Alaia shrugged "Ok, tired.." Her mom raised an eyebrow then said "Kristy is taking you to school today..She needs to run a few errands.." Alaia smiled "Cool!" (tiny time skip) Alaia sat in Kristy's car's passenger seat...They arrived at the school and they said goodbye and Alaia sighed...She walked towards the school...Wishing it was a dream... |

Terry got out of his red truck. He checked his pea green many-pocketed backpack, the one his father got from the local military surplus store to double check that he had everything. Since the bag was so big, he only needed to go to his locker once a day to change his cargo from morning classes to the afternoon. He whistled one of this favorite tunes while walking to the school. It was his favorite, but didn’t recall where he heard it. It reminded him of flying. It was full of carefree energy. He noticed one of his classmates ahead of him. He called out, “Hey Alaia, wait for me!” He liked her lots, especially her bandana. It reminded him of the sky which seemed so close, yet so far. Oh, man. It’s been months since I’ve flown. Maybe I should sneak out after my parents go to bed and fly a little. I wouldn't go too far. Only a mile, honest. Once he caught up with her, he asked, “Ready to go the museum?” He enjoyed the museum. It felt like being home. (ooc: I’m glad you like the premise. BTW, I checked your profile, I see much potential. ) |

ooc: ok! I'm just pretending here that Terrance doesn't know about Alaia's secret and she doesn't know about his...Is that ok? I wasn't sure... bic: Alaia turned and smiled at Terry. "Hi, Terry!" He was the only person in this school that ever paid attention to her...Now, sure there was a few people that talked to her but she felt most comfortable with Terry..She wasn't quite sure why...But it always felt like he was hiding something too. "Yeah, I can't wait!" |

ooc: Nope. He doesn't know; he's in the dark.) Terry's eyes sparkled, "Me too. Too bad we're not going to the planetarium though. I love looking at all those stars. I don't get to look at the night sky as the way intended here in the city and only get to when my parents take me to the countryside so I can f...fully enjoy the marvels." Whew that was a quick recovery. At the corner of his eye, he caught a mockingbird laughing at him with its song. He smiled, "Anyhow, what exhbit are we going to see again? I sorta forgot. Don't you worry though. I brought what I needed for the field trip" |

ooc: ok! bic: Alaia looked at Terry, he was hiding something. But then so was she. Her parents let her go out a night to run in the woods. Kristy would sometimes drive out to the middle of nowhere and let her run....."I think we are going to the animal exhibit.." Alaia loved that exhibit |

Looks like my near slip wasn't noticed. That was close. I don't know. Something about Alaia nearly made me say what I yearn to say, but I shouldn't. He rubbed his ring and breathed deeply as he continued to walk towards the school before they could be late. "Yea, yea that's right. You know what I hate about that exhibit though? I hate the fact that all the animals are all stuffed. Birds don't fly, fish don't swim, beasts don't run. They stare at you with their unblinking eyes. It's just unnerving. Animal skeletons are okay, but still. Well, we better get going to homeroom before heading to the bus to be museum bound. |

Alaia shivered "I don't like that fact but the rest of the exhibit, I like...The history...mostly" Alaia nodded "Probably should.." As they got inside the school, she walked towards the homeroom |

Terry nodded as they reached homeroom, “I agree. History is a wonderful subject, in small doses” He smirked “The professor, my father, thinks that history is appropriate dinner subject matter when there is nothing to talk about.” He added the father part for Alaia’s reference who he was talking about. He occasionally substituted Professor or Doctor for father because his adopted father was somewhat unconventional and his own children had gone on to live their own adult lives. Horatio Carmichael, a portly main with graying black hair, felt that he was too old to be called Dad or by similar title by a teenage boy. “Dr. Carmichael visited our history class last month as a guest lecturer to talk about one of his ancestors from the Colonial era. Remember? He chose to bring in pictures of artifacts instead of the real thing?” He sat down at his desk; time was growing short before the first bell. As soon as the announcements were over, they would leave their desks and head back outside. There would be time to talk more on the bus. (ooc: I suppose once the bell rings, there isn't much for a scene. We could go straight to the bus. Thoughts?) |

ooc: that sounds like a good idea! bic: Alaia nodded as Terry talked. "I remember that.." Alaia walked to her desk and sat down, carefully..Her tail was sensitive, and if she sat down hard it hurt a lot.. She listened to the annoucements and then the bell rang. She sat on the bus in the row second from the back. She smiled at Terry and looked out of the window, wishing she didn't have to ride on the bus..But she did...She realized that her pants had slid slightly down and her shirt had ridden up when she sat down. Quickly she pulled her shirt down completely...Even though it was only up about an inch, she knew that if she didn't it might show little tufts of fur... |

In the back of the bus, most stuff goes unnoticed. Terry’s classmates were murmuring to themselves. On bus trips, Terry mostly kept to himself to watch the scenery, especially when it was out in the countryside. He looked back and saw that Alaia was smiling, but looked uncomfortable. The boy often wondered why she was so uncomfortable with sitting. He looked out the window and contemplated. Then again, if my wings were a permanent fixture, I’d probably be in the same boat. I’d probably have to wear special shirts and wear a coat to hide them. Imagine that, wearing a coat in the summer time. I wonder what the weather’s like where my people live; wherever that was. More than likely they wear clothes both suited to the weather, but also to accommodate wings. Lightning struck his mind. He looked at Alaia again and then whispered to himself, “In the same boat.” He looked at his ring on his left ring finger and traced the image of the winged serpent with his right index finger. He whispered to the ring, “Is it possible? Is she like me?” He looked back outside the window as the bus passed a fountain. I just don’t know. If she is like me, she’s entitled to keep it a secret, just as I am with mine. |

Alaia shivered...She moved a little..Her tail hurt, she couldn't wait till they got there so that she could stand up..Alaia's sensitive ears, even though they were tucked under a bandanna and hat could still pick up almost as much as they could when they were free..She heard someone whispering...Just like they were talking to her...She couldn't quite catch the words...But she head this.."Is it possible?" The rest was blocked out by the noise of the bus stopping and people standing up to get off...They were there...She could never block what other people were saying out that well..She stood up and started walked towards the bus door... |

Terry was right behind Alaia having to wait for the others to head out the bus since he had been in the next row over. Once out, he felt the warm sun. Although he loved the night sky, the sunlight filled him with life. Perfect day for flying. He felt rustling behind his back. Oh, no you don't. He quickly smothered the idea of flying and the senation ended. He felt his smooth back and looked around. No one seemed to notice. Only a few seconds more and they would have burst out for the entire world to see. |

Alaia stood behind Terry on the steps of the bus and let the warm sun wash over her...She loved the sun...She wished she could run and run and run...But she couldn't, she sighed and waited...In front of her, Terry's back did something weird...Kinda creepy..She cocked her head then closed her eyes and opened them again and his back was back to normal..Alaia noticed he looked around quickly but she pretended not to have noticed.. Alaia walked slowly behind Terry to the museum..Their class walked slowly in the doors..Alaia shivered as the cold air conditioning blew on her... |

Stepping into the huge lobby, the class gathered and waited for their tour guide. The exibit they were to see was on the second floor and would have to pass the dinosaur hall to go up the stairs to reach the exhibit. I wonder if the serpent on my ring was supposed to have been a real creature or something that my people made up. Looking up at the banners -one was about what they were going to see- proclaiming current and upcoming events, he asked Alaia, "How do you suppose they get them up there?" They were very high up. A regular ladder couldn't reach them. |
