Jung turned around and said, “I hope you’re hungry. As a robot, I don’t require sustenance, but I know how much people enjoy eating. The cuisine might be unfamiliar to you, but I hope you understand.” It then faced forward and acted like a tour guide as they entered the palace. “You are now in the Hall of the Moon. We have named it for our allies, the Midori. Our visitors come down this hall before entering the atrium where they are welcomed. One could say it the heart of the Arcadian palace and it is largest room except for the great hall.” Paintings lined the hall. Many were quite abstract, filled with majestic scenery. However, quite a few depicted encounters with the Midori. It seemed that they had dealings with the forest people for generations. They looked like humans, but with wolf tails and ears, quite similar to Alaia. After a few minutes, they reached the atrium which wasn’t empty. Standing in the middle to greet them was an Icarian with a similar robot hovering next to him, but not just any Icarian. It was the crown prince Philemon, Terry’s older brother, who was dressed more formally than yesterday.

(ooc: Basically the first time we met Philemon, he was dressed in royal clothes, but they were for casual wear. These are formal royal clothes.)

bic: 'Alaia nodded and walked beside Terry. Her stomach rumbled softly. As they entered the Hall of the Moon, she gasped slightly as she looked at the pictures. As she saw pictures of the Midori, she smiled softly. So there were more of her kind.

As they reached the atrium she saw the Icarian that had talked with them yesterday. She bowed her head in respect and her earring jingled as her right ear rotated..'

The robot hovering next to Philemon said, “It’s about time you showed up with them. Where is the automaton pride of punctuality?”Jung retorted, “You should know Hector about the arbitrary nature of the marketplace crowds, especially in the morning. We can not hold organic beings to our ideal.” Hector buzzed and said, “You hear that my prince? The nerve of this one. Anyone can keep to a schedule if they are disciplined enough. He’s got a screw loose and he doesn’t even have a name.” Jung said, “I am Jung.” The other automaton laughed and said, “Jung? Where did you get a name like that?” Terry stepped forward and said, “I did.” More buzzing and the robot was about to say more when Philemon held his hand up and said, “That’s enough.” The robot became silent and the elder prince said, “The important thing is that you two are here. A part of me though that the moment that you were free of the guardhouse, you’d make a run for it, but where would you go in such an unfamiliar land?”

Philemon seemed emotionally different today, less confrontational. He stepped forward and wrapped his arms and wings around Terry in embrace. “Welcome back, my brother.” It was Terry’s turn to be surprised. The teen replied, “Brother? You know me?” Philemon let go and said, “You’re my little brother Iakona. It was a huge shock to everyone, but it’s really you. Brother, milady, come with me.” He nodded to his brother and bowed to Alaia. Philemon and Hector proceeded down the hallway to the left of the Hall of the Moon. Terry looked at Alaia and followed his brother.

Alaia laughed softly at the robots. She listened to Philemon, or Prince Philemon, talk. He seemed different...She was surprised when Philemon hugged Terry. She defiently didn't except that..

Alaia curtised to him and then followed him. She was also not used to being called milady...She glanced at Terry as well and shrugged slightly. This adventure was turning into a very interesting one...

As they walked down the hall slowly, Philemon said, “Your arrival, I assure you, was surprising because we weren’t expecting visitors. The starstep chambers on Earth are too high for the wingless to reach and when they were destroyed all those years ago, the landjump chambers were destroyed as well. These chambers were used by the Midori to visit us because they link directly to the starstep chambers. Lady, your presence gives us hope that our friendship can continue. Brother, you need to be aware that news of your return has spread like wildfire and has created pandemonium. When you first arrived, we didn’t know who you were and how you came about getting here. Our computers didn’t recognize your face. How could it when you left when you were just a baby. When Jung, your aidbot, relayed us your genetic code, we asked ourselves how this could be. It is impossible to fake someone’s genetic identity and then I saw your ring. It is made of a rare metal called dremite. It can not be found on Earth, only here in our lands. It is so rare that only the royal family of Arcadia is permitted to wear jewelry made of this metal. By treaty, we have allowed only one other family to wear this metal, the leading family of the Midori. A word of caution Iakona. There are those on the High Council who want to strip you of your title. It is sheer madness and there are even those among them who say you’re not a real Icarian because you’ve lived your entire life among the Earthers and should be clipped of your wings so you’d no longer be able to grow wings and fly. They would have you banished from our lands. However, there is a faction that supports you. Many of the citizens do. We see you as a living symbol of those that were lost in the war.”

They finally reached a set of large wooden doors. Philemon peeked inside and whispered something to a guard on the other side. He said, “I must leave you know. I will see you shortly.” The elder prince and his aidebot went inside. Terry was confused about what was going on. He and Alaia were alone for several minutes and he wondered what they were supposed to do now, but then the two doors opened up. Horns blared in fanfare and an Icarian woman standing near the door proclaimed, “The younger prince Iakona and the lady Alaia of the Midori tribe.” She motioned with her hand to usher them in.

Terry or Iakona, as he was to his people, looked straight ahead. Philemon stood at the very center at the far back of the chamber and he wasn’t alone. In the two thrones next to him were a man and a woman. The elder prince stood next to the man and by his brother’s behavior, Terry could not mistake their identities. I can’t believe it, those are my parents!

ooc: Are Alaia's ring and necklace made of the same metal? Her parents were given it by Alaia's wolf parents...

bic: 'Alaia swallowed hard as they followed Philemon. So that's how the Midori got up here. She nodded, she too hoped that their two peoples friendship would continue. She listened carefully to Philemon. This metal, was her ring and necklace made of the same metal as Terry's? And if it was, why did her wolf parents not seem to be Midori?

She cocked her head as Philemon entered and said that he'd see them shortly. When the doors opened, she was surprised but she walked beside Terry. As she looked ahead, she saw two thrones and upon those two thrones...Two people...Philemon was standing near them. Terry's parents??

Terry hadn’t been expecting this. Nothing he had seen so far was expected. The man said, “Come forward and let me take a look at you. Terry walked forward and the man said, “It is true. My son Iakona is not only alive, but he’s a splendid young man. I am your father Theobald and this is your mother Celeste. Welcome home. Can you forgive me for what I did?” Terry knew that his father must be referring to being taken to Earth when he was a baby and replied, “I do father. You ensured that if the worst happened, there would be an heir still alive.” King Theobald’s eyes lit up and he said, “Quite true.” His mother seemed hesitant to get close as if she was afraid that this was just a dream. She smiled weakly and whispered, “I’m sorry, but this is too much.” She got up and started to leave. A couple of attendants escorted her out of the chamber. The boy could hear sobbing.

Terry’s father shook his head and said gravely, “I am saddened you had to see that. Your mother is true. It is too much. We all lamented your loss, but we persevered for the sake of your brother. We were overjoyed when we had proof that you were alive and well, but with members of the High Council threatening your claim to this throne and even saying you shouldn’t even be in the land of your people, those feelings have returned. The Chancellor has called an emergency session set for tomorrow and they are going to discuss your case like hagglers in the marketplace. Pathetic! You are my son. They have no right to refuse you like this, but it is a cruel cosmic joke that our laws say the High Council determines the validity of such claims of being a part of the royal household. I vow not to let these people win and will do whatever it takes, just like I did all those years ago, to protect you.” Theobald seemed quite a different father from Horatio Carmichael. His father composed himself and said, “Until that time, you are still prince and are entitled to live here as is the Lady Alaia.” He turned to her and said, “I wish the circumstances of your arrival were in better times. You two may join Philemon and me for some breakfast. You must have questions. Tell me Lady, who are your parents?”

Alaia stood slightly behind Terry and listened to the King and Queen. They seemed happy yet sad, especially the Queen, or Terry's mother. Sobbing could be heard after she left. The King seemed like a very nice man, like Philemon seemed as well. She glanced at Terry and then looked back at the King.

As he spoke to her, she said "I'm not sure, sir. My wolf parents are Xerox and Aaralyn"

Theobald’s eyes lit up and said, “I know them. That is to say that I knew them before the war. The first time that I met him was when his father still led your pack and I was not yet king. Those were happy times in which there was frequent travel back and forth. I’m afraid he may not remember me or much about this place. It is like a form of amnesia. The reason is that the longer a Midori stays in wolf form, the more the wolf mind takes over. After all these years, your clan may not remember that they can take on a human appearance.”

Philemon’s eyes snapped wide and he said, “Father, Alaia may have given us what we need to save Iakona’s status.” The king looked at his elder son and asked, “How so?” Philemon said, “Our treaty with the Midori was still valid when the war happened and even exists to this day despite not having no communication for all these years. Even if he didn’t know about himself and she wasn’t sure where she came from, if they kept the spirit of it alive, then it could be seen that Iakona was serving in an official capacity as a representative of the Icarian people for all these years.” Theobald made a hearty laugh, “That’s my boy. I would never have thought of it. We can discuss it over breakfast. Prepare the dining room for breakfast!” Attendants hurried out of the room to prepare the meal. The king looked at the two and asked, “How long have you known each other?”

Terry was hopeful that this would save him. Getting kicked out of the land he had desired for all his life was an outcome that he didn’t want to see. To be so close, yet so far.

Alaia smiled. So they were Midori! She nodded, so that's why they didn't seem to remember much about their past..That made sense. As people ran out of the room to prepare breakfast, Alaia thought. Hmm, breakfast sounded so good right now!

"For a few years, sir. We only recently become aware that we each had a secret 'identity'. Me, being Midori, and him being Icarian."

Theobald said, “I see. I wish it had been for more years, but we use the tools we are given. Iakona, I have reviewed the visual records since your arrival and have spoken to witnesses. There is a certain authenticity in your friendship because it isn’t forced. I would be pleased to learn more about your time on Earth. It would offer a unique perspective on life. I know who should attend this breakfast meeting.” He motioned for his aidebot and said, “Cicero, go to Reynaldo and tell him I would like for him to take a break and join us for breakfast. If he is going to represent my son, it would be best to meet him beforehand. Grand Master Reynaldo is my most trusted advisor and is very knowledgeable. Plus, if my wife is up to it, I would like her to come as well.” The robot said, “Yes sire” and left the room. Terry wasn’t surprised. So he was here too and alive.

An attendant came in and said that the breakfast was ready. Theobald said rising from his throne, “Let us eat now. My chefs have prepared a wide variety of Icarian foods. There are also prepared Midori dishes. They were enthusiastic about this because it’s been years since they’ve made Midori foods for a Midori.” Theobald left the chamber and walked down the small hallway to the dining room. Philemon placed a hand on his younger brother’s shoulder and said, “I don’t know what type of meals the Earth served, but I hope you two enjoy the meals we have prepared.” Terry followed his father and brother.

Alaia nodded, she too wished it had been for more years. Interesting this place was. The people here were kind..She was glad that she and Terry were welcomed.

Alaia smiled softly. She couldn't wait to try Terrys people's food and her people's food. She was sure both of the kinds of food would be delicious! Or so she hoped.. She followed Terry's father and brother as she walked beside Terry. This was exciting.

They entered the dining room. Terry found it small, too small to be the dining room of a palace. Philemon said, “This is the private dining room. There is another dining room used for larger gatherings. We use this for our regular eating. Theobald sat down at the head of the table and Philemon sat by his side. Terry chose to sit next to his brother. His mother, the Queen Celeste, came out of another door. She appeared to have recovered and she came accompanied by an aidebot of her own which was sky blue in color. She sat down on the opposite end.

The table was filled with many types of food. In front of each plate, in a cup, was an egg which was as big a baseball. They were yellow with orange spots. Philemon learned over and told his brother, “These are piyoko eggs. They are very fun to eat.” Before they could eat however, they had to wait for another arrival

That arrival came in. A bald Icarian man wearing teal tunic and a headband adorned with yellow feathers came out of the doors. He came accompanied by an aidebot of his own which was made of transparent metal which made it look like a cybernetic water drop. Theobald announced, “Here is Reynaldo who will represent you at tomorrow’s gathering. Where is Galen?” The man bowed to Terry and said, “It is good to see you Iakona, my prince. Galen is my aidebot and is currently doing research into your case.” He took up a spot across from Terry. Theobald said, “Now that everyone’s here, let us eat.”

Terry wasn’t sure what to do. All the foods were unfamiliar. Philemon said, “Watch me. You take the egg, crack it in the middle like so, and pour the contents in the cup.” His brother took the large egg, cracked the egg, and poured the yolk into the cup. He said, “Now you select your mixings and spoon them into the cup. You stir the contents and eat it with a spoon.” Again he demonstrated this next task. “We eat piyoko eggs for appetizers and snacks.” Luckily my adopted parents presented foods of all sorts to me. He imitated the movements and selected the same mixings. It was almost like making an omelet without actually cooking it. He scooped some up from the cup and put the spoon into his mouth. Hey this isn’t bad at all.

(ooc: I thought I’d let you describe the Midori dishes present.)

Alaia looked around and sat down beside Terry, really unsure where to sit. She looked around the table. Interesting foods were set in dishes around the table. She saw another Icarian walk in and sit down. She watched Terry and Philemon before doing the same with her egg. She choose some mixing and stirred. When she tasted it, she actually enjoyed it! When she was finished with her egg, her attention was diverted to a large dish in front of her.
There were strange looking pieces of meat in it? That's what it looked like it to her. Must be a Midori dish... She thought. She served herself a small piece. It was kinda raw but still able to be eaten by regular people without getting sick, at least that's how it looked. Alaia cut herself a small bite and put it in her mouth. She chewed and swallowed. This was good! Wow..It was amazing trying her, until now un known, native people's food.

ooc: Oh, thanks!

Terry spied something that looked like bread, but it was a cluster like a mass of cotton balls. He reached for the mass and pulled off some. He put the bread in his mouth as Philemon gasped, “Brother!” It didn’t taste like any bread he had tasted before. It’s bitter! Philemon and Hector laughed. His brother said, “You just put a whole chunk of moogie bread in your mouth! No wonder you’re making that face. You’re supposed to dip it in fruit paste.” He motioned to the small bowls surrounding the bread each having a different color. “The combination of the bitterness and the sweetness of the paste make it quite flavorful.” Okay, round two. He pulled off another piece of moogie bread and dipped into the purple paste. Grape jelly was always my favorite. He put it into his mouth and his older brother was right. It did taste great and each piece of bread tasted different with each type of paste.

For most of the meal, the aidebots talked among themselves in their own language and after everyone had their fill; it was time to get to business. The table was cleared and was made bare. A serious air fell over the room. Theobald said, “Son, I don’t know where to begin. Should I answer any questions you have so you can better understand how fate led you here or plan a strategy to save yourself?” Terry said, “Father, I would like to know what this war was about.”

Theobald said, “Lifetimes ago, we were brought here by beings that we called gods. We came to know that they were mortal just like us, but from another world and this world that we live on belonged to them. Icarus fell to the sea and was saved by them and these beings were inspired. Thus the Icarians were born. The Midori were also products of their intervention. However, there was a problem. There was a group of humans taken at the same time as Icarus and the others, they became a similar race to us. They became the fiends. They can grow wings like us, but their total appearance changes when they do. They grow wings like a bat’s and they take on a demonic appearance. They occupied the other continent on this planet. Peace had been uneasy for centuries since the war that caused the Sword of Icarus to be lost. Conflict was born anew and we were concerned about the Earthers since we found away to adapt the alien technology to visit the world our people left. All the Midori who were currently living on this world we sent to the Earth because we did not want to see them get hurt. The conflict would have involved our alien benefactors that we called the Interventers, but they died out leaving us the heirs of their technology which the fiends covet because they see it as a tool for conquest. I had the son of one of my most trusted guards take you down below to safety. My plan worked out too successful. He was supposed to keep a low profile and await word to return or stay and start a new life. He was a true soldier and knew of my concern and destroyed the access to Earth. We defeated the fiends and crushed them. They are not a threat anymore. You can’t tell that my left arm is fake can you? I lost my first arm in the war. Lady Alaia, if you wish, we can visit the abandoned Midori settlement.”

So that’s how I came to live on Earth. He had never met any of these fiends, but from his father’s description, he knew his people’s enemy. The teen’s face grew stern and he nodded in agreement. His father acted appropriately as a ruler, but some might question if he did the right thing as a father.
