Now, most stories start with phony things like once upon a time, or in a land, which to me is entirely boring for this story. For in the story things happen that neither of those beginning justifies, and so, this is how the story will begin. Prologue Mass murder? Sad and lonely, a girl sat in a dank cell. Not knowing who she was or where she was. Why was she there? Most think for murdering the town of Poccassett. Mass murder? Hardly. No, she hadn't done a thing. Or had she? What was her name? Where did she come from? How did she get in this cell? No one really knows the answers to these questions except maybe one. The great wizard, Waron, though no one has seen him for years. He had suddenly disappeared about the same time the girl had shown up in this place. No one knew how she got there, but one day she was there. They figured Waron had put her there for some reason and they didn't question his judgment. Someone once tried to let her go, because she seemed almost harmless, but that person died mysteriously in the dark of night. This girl scared the people of Poccassett, for strange things happened after she arrived in that cell. A disease broke out, people died mysteriously with out it, and some people started acting like they were possessed by something. Then one day, everyone disappeared into thin air. Some travelers came to the town a few days later, but they found it deserted or so they thought. They found the girl alone in her cell, something made them turn and run, screaming from the town. Was it fear? No one knows. The next town nearby proclaimed everyone in that town dead, though there were no bodies. They kept the girl there as punishment for the crime they accused her of. Once a day, the nearby village sends a person with food to Poccassett. The person chosen always returned unscathed, terrified and without the food. They say that she never spoke or made any sound. Some wonder what really happened. She has been there for many years, but hasn't seemed to age. What is wrong with her, some wonder. Some search for answers of the mysteries. One in particular, might find the answers. Edited by Pepper, Jul 30 2010, 07:43 PM.

Chapter 1 Kennet Jaye Kennet walked through the small town of Bonneville. His red hair ruffled in the small wind, his green eyes were full of thought. When he arrived here a few weeks ago, he had thought that everyone seemed so friendly and nice, but as he spent more time with them he could tell they were hiding something. He wondered if the legend of the nearby town, Poccassett, was true. He had tried to find out, to go to Poccassett, but every time he tried someone stopped him. Why, he wondered, why did they try to stop him? The only reason why he could think of was that the legend of Poccassett was true, which in truth excited and frightened him at the same time. Then, he remembered something. He turned around and ran to the home of a man named Alomar. He knocked on the door. A tall man with curly brown hair answered the door. "Oh, Kennet. What are you doing here?" Kennet said "Well, Alomar I have a few questions." Alomar’s face changed from one of pleased surprise, to one with a hint of fear, and worry. "You know I can't answer them!" Kennet sighed, "Please, just let me inside. Ok?" Alomar’s face was still worried as he said, "All right, I'll let you in." He stepped away from the door and said "Close it behind you." He walked over to a small chair and sat down. Kennet nodded, stepped inside, and closed the door behind him. He walked over to a chair near his friend. He sat down "Now, how come you can't answer my questions?" Alomar stuttered. "I-I-I can't because…It's the law! The elders made it long ago." Kennet nodded, but why, he wondered in his head. Why had they made that rule? "Alomar, I need to go to Poccassett" Alomar said in a scared tone. "No, you can't Kennet! You may not live in this town but you still can't go! I-It's too dangerous!" Kennet said "Why, why is it too dangerous?" Alomar stuttered again. "W-What? B-because it is." Kennet said "I don’t care what you say, I'm leaving for Poccassett soon." Alomar groaned and nodded. "But...Oh, whatever." Kennet smiled slightly "Well, I'll be going!" He got up, went to the door, opened it, and left, closing it behind himself. Kennet walked back through the town, bored and waiting for the right moment to leave, unnoticed. He suddenly heard one of the elders call out something. "It is time. It is time! Come forth!" Kennet, curious as always, hid in the shadows, his brown tunic helping him blend into the dark. He’d heard this before, every day at the same time, but someone always sent him inside. Now, he watched with anticipation. The people flooded out of their homes and stood before the elders in the center of town. One of the elders, named Ezra, spoke. "It is time to choose one of you." Choose one of them? What in the world could he mean? He listened more intently. Ezra spoke again. "We hope that today, Alomar will go. He hasn't gone in many a year." Kennet’s brow furrowed. What was happening? He watched as Alomar came forward to speak quietly with the elders. They handed him a cloth bag and then Ezra spoke one last time. "He will go. Good luck, Alomar." Alomar remained while the townspeople and elders disappeared into their homes. He stood there for a few moments, before walking away towards the edge of town. Kennet watched him leave, and then quietly as possible followed him. Where was his friend headed? Kennet followed about 20 feet behind his friend, carefully avoiding stepping on twigs and such in the forest and fields that they went through. After about 30 minutes of following Alomar, Kennet noticed that Alomar was slowing down. Kennet wondered, but he had little time to for he soon saw something in the distance. What was it? As they got closer, Kennet realized that it was the town of Poccassett. So, maybe the legend was true? Alistair entered the town, slowly. Kennet was right behind him, he didn't want his friend to know he was there, and so he stayed behind him about 10 feet. Kennet looked around and shuddered. Boy, it was creepy here! Everything was silent, some of the buildings were falling apart, no one was here, or so it looked. Alomar entered a building that seemed to be in the best shape of all of the buildings. Kennet followed him inside, and saw that they were in an old prison. Alomar was just going down some stairs, as Kennet entered. He quickly, silently followed his friend down the steps. As he entered the cellar, after his friend, he shuddered again. It was dank, dark, and musty. After his eyes adjusted, he saw Alomar enter a room at the end of the long corridor, which they were in. Empty cells lined the walls, and rats scurried into dark corners. The mud floor was hard and rocky under foot. As Kennet came closer to the door, he felt a sense of foreboding. Every step he took, it became stronger. He heard a scuffling in the room before him, and quick footsteps heading straight at him. He quickly hid in the shadows near the door to the room. Alomar practically ran out of the room, up the stairs, and his footsteps could be heard, until he left the building. Kennet let out the breath he had been holding and came out of the shadows. He edged towards the door, that sense of foreboding getting even stronger. Fear drove into his heart, for some reason untold. After a few moments of edging slowly towards the door, he stood in front of it; inside he swore he saw a faint light. Confused and frightened, he walked slowly through the door. Pure fear and sadness washed over him as he walked slowly, silently towards the faint light. Edited by Pepper, Jul 30 2010, 07:43 PM.

He got closer and realized the light was shining through a small window inside the one cell in the room. Kennet lowered his gaze to the floor. A girl, with her head bowed, sat alone in the middle of the cell. Cloth bags surrounded her. Kennet wondered who she was. He stepped closer to the cell and the girl. Every step he took the feelings of foreboding and sadness grew stronger and stronger. This made Kennet all the more curious. Suddenly, he heard a loud crunch beneath his foot. He looked down and jumped back a few spaces. Beneath a thick layer of dust laid a human skeleton. Shock was written over his face. Wait; he thought to himself, I remember something in the legend. Books of legends and tales told by people went through his mind. Then he remembered something in an old legend, something made them turn and run, screaming from the town. Was this why? Did one of them die and so the others were terrified? Did she kill this person? He studied at the skeleton lying there on the cold ground. A soft voice surprised him, "I did not kill him." Kennet's head snapped up and he stared at the girl in the cell. She was still sitting but her head was up and she was staring at him with dull, grey-blue eyes. Kennet stuttered, "Y-you ju-u-s-t-t spoke!" The girl nodded,"I used to always speak but no one ever heard me. You entered this room and I knew, I knew you would be able to hear me." Her voice was soft and was as beautiful as the song of a bird. Kennet said, "What? I'm the only one that can hear you? How is that possible?" The girl answered, "Magic, strong, evil magic. You are the only one that can save me, Kennet." He jumped, "How did you know my name?" The girl smiled slightly, "Magic. Why do you think I was put in here? I was a threat." "A threat to whom?" "I can't not say until you free me. The magic will hurt someone special to me if I do." Kennet's heart thrummed with compassion for this girl, though he wasn't sure what caused the feeling. It was if he had a special connection to this girl. He spoke the words before he knew they were on his tongue. "What do I do?" The girl answered, "Leave and find the wizard. Find the one who loves you. Come back when you find him and when you know what I mean." Kennet was confused, "Wait, I thought you wanted me to free you! Now, you're telling me to leave?" The girl said, "You will understand in time. Now, go. I will never be gone from this place. You must go on your own journey to find the way to save me, then you will know why." Kennet didn't want to leave but something made him turn around and walk out of the room. He was scared as he walked through the cells and up the stairs. His legs lead him outside and back towards Bonneville. Why was he walking back? He had no clue, but he was. Kennet knew that when he got back, he would pack his things, get his horse and ride from town to town, from place to place, until he found the wizard, whoever he was. He had a feeling he knew exactly who the wizard was. Edited by Pepper, Jul 30 2010, 07:40 PM.
