((Private! :P))

"You're a great beast, but it is time for you to leave this world! I am here for your head!" He dropped his sword on the ground, a well-groomed white mare whinnying in surprise. The young knight turned, steadying the startled beast with calm words and a gentle touch to her snout, "I'm sorry, Penelope! I'm just nervous... You understand, right?"

The horse blinked at him before returning to eating the grass at her hooves.

He sighed, dropping his arms, the leather he wore scraping quietly, "Yes, a horse completely understands..."

"No, she does not, horses are not quite as intelligent as ourselves. But I understand, it must be frightening to go up against such a creature, especially with no experience or fellow knights. Seems a little foolish, really!" The voice was calm and quiet, almost a bit tired-sounding.

"Yes exactly!" He felt relieved at hearing another person, hopefully come to join him, but froze at seeing the reptilian gray eyes followed by a long, graceful body covered in dazzling ocean-blue scales, his underbelly a crystalline white to match the two fangs that could be seen poking over his bottom jaw. It had two gently curved horns framing its head and a row of spikes from his brow to the tip of his tail. His wings were tucked closely to his slender form, but they must have been three times his own size, each, and that was quite unusual in the way of dragons, as far as the knight could tell.

"Hmm? What's wrong? You look surprised." He swished his spaded tail casually around a nearby tree, snapping some of the branches to let more of the sun hit his scales. It was a nice day, he wanted to enjoy the sunlight.

"B-but! How? How can I understand you?! How did you find me!?" He grabbed his sword and backed away, standing beside his horse who still munched on the grass, oblivious to their large visitor.

He chuckled darkly before spearing the knight with his tail. He struggled for a moment, then was still. The horse now smelled the visitor and reared, but the dragon snatched her with his talons and the forest was silent again.

If there was one thing that Safia could always enjoy, it was the luxury of a bath. Cool water sliding between and under her white scales, across her sensitive belly, around the piercing spikes of her neck and back, it felt like heaven. Of course, dragons had a peculiar compulsion toward extreme heat most times, but on a warm day like this, it was nice to find relief deep beneath the water, using wings and powerful legs to propel through the water, snapping at the occasional fish.

The difficult part of taking a bath is finding a spot in which the two-leggeds would remain unawares of her presence. She doesn't much like them. Well, not the round-ears, anyway. She views them rather like cockroaches: impossible to wipe out, quick to spring up, destructive, and wide-spread. They care little for much else but their own kind, as well, which is very frustrating when they view only a field of missing sheep as a threat. Or so Safia found. She wouldn't have taken from the humes in the first place had they not scared off most of the game in her territory. She would have just eaten those ridiculous hunters instead if she would not have the entirety of her race after her hide for such a thing. She didn't understand why, but the Elders of their race had determined that the two-leggeds were not to be harmed without due cause. Safia doesn't have much faith in the Elders, but there are many dragons -- older, stronger dragons -- who do, and to go against the Elders' decree is to call a flight of angry dragons upon oneself.

One dragon, Safia could likely win against. An entire flight, and she would be little more than a great, burnt, scaly log in moments.

Drying on the shore, scales blindingly bright, Safia lifted her great snout into the air, smelling it. After a moment, her eyes narrowed and she let out a bellowing roar.

It had been a long while since Safia had seen another of her kind, but she did not much appreciate one encroaching on her territory now.

((This is horrible. I'm sorry.))

((No it was fine! ^_^))

Well that was the rest of the blood! He had gobbled all the coin and metals and completely devoured the human. The horse he had stripped of gear and left the carcass. He was in some other dragons territory, the least he could do was leave a gift while not leaving behind traces of human for other humans to follow. Anything he could not eat he would simply dump in the nearest body of water.

Besides, the dragon should be thanking him, the human had been hunting the local dragon, not him. He wandered through territories, killing humans most of the time, as they were the easiest prey. Some of those old dragons tailed him if he left traces, so he had learned to stay solo, stay quiet, and keep moving.

He quickly zipped over the trees, but stopped above the large body of water he had been planning to drop the leftovers in. It seemed the she-dragon was bathing. She might not appreciate bloody trash in her bath, but that seemed to be the only deep water around, so he would have to risk it.

He dropped the human gear on the ground before landing atop it, snorting, "Apologies, I seemed to have intruded on your bath. Your territory is vast and beautiful as you are, m'lady~ I am quite sorry to have entered without invitation, but I was just on my way back out so I hope you wont mind if I just..." He casually pushed the human trash into the lake.

"It was just awful! I was flying overhead when I saw this knight running straight into your domain! I would have continued flying but I could smell your beauty all over the area and I just couldn't leave such a beautiful creature to quell with the lower beings or worse! I couldn't bear to imagine if he had caught you unawares and injured your sparkling scales with his brutish sticks and stones! What a pity to damage such fine gifts from the stars!" She looked quite a bit smaller than him, but he had gotten in fights with the she-bitches before, they could leave some nasty injuries. He had learned to flatter and back away as fast as possible. Most of the time it worked. Dragons were quick to anger, but also easily bendable under flattery in most cases, especially stupid females. He didn't know how smart this one was, but he would play it as carefully as always. He could not afford to be injured and risk a maiming that would ground him for an extended period.

He twisted his tail to look harmless and friendly, "I also left the horse for you to enjoy, and no human could trace it back without their trash which I just dumped in here. Hopefully that appeases your appetite to forgive my short little intrusion, m'lady?" He kept himself proper as he held his slender form respectably towards her.

Quite honestly, Safia was too vain for even the flattery to work. Who could tell her the extent of her beauty when not even she knew? But, more importantly, she was too old -- though still something of a hatchling at only two score years -- and too wary to be so easily led astray. This was a large territory that she held, and she had held it a long time not because she was particularly strong, but because she knew of dragons and their tricks.

And though his presence, and his belief that he could so easily have her twisted around his puny talons, infuriated her, Safia did not immediately lash out. Rather, she reigned in her gnashing teeth and straightened her snarling lip.

"I had no idea such a charming male had intruded on my land," she said, unfurling her wings that, when the thin membranes caught the light, appeared to be like silver cloaks. Her scales still shone with water, and the white of them seemed as opulent as precious gems.

"It is not often enough that I am brought gifts." Not that she needed gifts. She could easily catch her own prey, and that he thought she would appreciate him hunting on her land, even for her, did nothing more than incite her fury more. He had may as well have called her incompetent.

Sizing him up, Safia decided that she could easily chase this male from her territory. He was bigger than her, certainly, but also slender, which probably meant that he was younger, not yet bulked out. Safia herself almost appeared to have more hard-won muscle than this hatchling.

She blinked once, lazily, but when she opened her eyes, the fury was there, obvious and uncontainable.

Safia was known as many things -- Moonscales, Starfire, Pearl of the Sky -- but none truly captured the essence of her viciousness. Female dragons were often known to be more violent and volatile than males, but Safia was ruthless. To her, there was nothing so wonderful as the feel of bones crushing in her jaws, or the trickle of warm blood down her throat.

She didn't even glance at the horse. Rather, she kept her narrowed, cat-like eyes trained on the male. Her talons scratched at the moist soil beneath her, digging in deeply. Her tail swung about her in agitation.

In fact, she was just about to lunge, to spew forth a tidal wave of flames so white that even stars would envy it, when she heard the familiarly harsh calls of humes.

"He was not alone, you fool. You have led them here. It will have been your last idiotic mistake," she said before letting out an earth-shaking roar and, with one push of her immensely strong back legs and one flap of her large, bat-like wings, lunging forward with talons ready and teeth bared. The humans she was not worried about -- their arrows could only reach so far, and they would likely not dare to interfere with two dragons -- but this male she wanted only to rip and slash and claw until her fled from her territory mewling like a pathetic kitten.

It seemed she was a bit older and too experienced to fall for weightless words. Plan B: run from the sky cow. He may have looked like a slinky winged snake, but he would not be taken down by some pissy female. He was slender for a good reason.

She lunged and he tucked in his wings, making his long body more aerodynamic before spinning and whipping up a good wind to propel himself away and her back. He then slunk around her and slithered through trees, keeping his too-large wings to his body. "Apologies m'lady, but I think I've overstayed my welcome!" He jumped into the trees, trying to back away from the humans and the she-devil.

She may not have seen it, but he did, the giant crossbow machine they had and the net shooter. They laced those nets with tranquilizers and poisons and shot the dragons neck and wings, bringing it down to earth and firing crossbows all the while. It was a death trap for dragons. He should know, he had only managed to escape a small troop similar to this by luck and an overpowering will to live.

He was grounded for now, though, using his abilities to go back and push her away was hard on him. He was young, barely past a score. He was clever and well-learned, but he was still young for a dragon. At this age an upstanding drake like himself would usually be on the edges of his dame's territory, but he was a runaway and so he had to make due with the limited power he had.

He backed away as fast as he could, hoping she would take care of the humans or the humans would take care of her. Either way he hoped to have enough time to escape this place. How had he been so sloppy? Usually he was in control of these situations, where had he made the mistake?

Though smaller, and probably more agile and quicker in flight, Safia's added bulk made maneuvering through trees much more difficult. She knew better than to try and follow the male dragon on foot, so with a powerful push of her back legs and a thunderous snap of her wings, she took to the air. Even if she just tailed him until he ran right from her territory like the foul little rodent that he was, she would be satisfied. If he came back a second time, it would be his blood that she sought, rather than just his retreat.

Speaking of rodents, it was the cranking sound that caught her attention. The twang of bows and crossbows she knew well, this cranking, though...

Safia turned just in time to see the net whirling toward her, and with a sudden folding of wings, she dropped just below the piercing spikes that lined the net. There she hovered, looking back and forth between the two intruders on her land. Finally, with a roar of frustration, she pulled herself into a dive toward the humans. More specifically, their machines. A great, wooden contraption that she should that should never have made it this near unnoticed.

The trick was destroying the machine without killing the people. Of course, she needed fly over only once or twice (constantly dodging arrows and bolts) before many of the humes fled, but several stubborn hunters remained nearby.

It took Safia but a moment to land, and a moment more to swing her tail at the large structure. Many board and planks splinted under her strength, but it was obvious that she would not have much of an impact this way.

Well, fine, then. She was a dragon. She had more than brute force at her disposal.

The slightest breath, and Safia had the wooden structure burning with a flame that burned as white as her scales shone.

Now, she simply had to leave and wait for the humes to leave before she could figure out how they managed to get so deep into her land before she noticed.

He stopped and watched her. Females were insane! He turned to see a small camp the intruders had built, and they looked back at him, just as surprised. He turned tail and ran back. He rather deal with a bloody death than a bunch of under-evolved apes chopping him up for trophies.

He grunted, knowing this was a bad idea, then diving into the water. How many of these little insects were here? The dame should be thanking him for pointing them out! They were obviously slowly waiting to assassinate her when her guard was down.

He poked his head up just enough to breathe, like an alligator. He then lifted his mouth out, "The pests invaded your land and you didn't even notice. You should be thanking me for revealing them before they got impossible to defeat! Not the most observant female!" He ducked back under the water as the humans emerged from the forest.

Hopefully they would all die? Even though most dragons could shake off some water, he was too sensitive to these things and he would need time to dry.

((I kind of have an idea, but it's not very good. I'll PM you when I'm done with this.))

If she truly felt overwhelmed, Safia could flee to one of the far corners of her territory and wait there until the humes came to her, or she felt prepared to face them. But the thought of turning tail now simply enraged her further.

It was when the blue pest reappeared that she snapped. Forget the Elders. Forget the pact that they were trying to work out with the two-legged leaders. Safia had had enough. Why should dragons -- the fiercest and most noble, the most beautiful and majestic, of creatures -- run from little cockroaches? She would not.

It was as if Safia lost all rational thought at that moment. Her only thought -- if something so purely fueled by bloodlust, anger, and instinct could be called a thought at all -- was to do what dragons did best: destroy.

In a sudden frenzy, she tore at the two-leggeds. One she clamped her massive jaws around, each gleaming tooth piercing him through the middle like so many swords. His blood stained her tongue, and the rich flavor only incited her wrath. She dropped the man, moving to the next.

Her great, spiked tail swung behind her, impaling men like a battering ram with deadly daggers and then sending them flying. One man in particular, thrown back with all the speed of a bolt shot from a crossbow, collided with a tree, his spine making a delicious popping noise. Another, Safia pinned with one gleaming talon through one of his little human paws. She took great joy in roasting him inside of his own armor.

It was as if she was possessed, slashing, ripping, tearing, slaughtering until one could barely recognize her as Moonscales, but would rather mistake her for a dragon the very color of crimson rubies. And when she stood in the center of a mess of smashed trees, burned bodies, and bloody boards, breathing heavily only from the sheer force of her fury, she was still not done. With the taste of blood in her mouth and her savagery only just beginning to be sated, having momentarily forgotten the blue dragon, Safia again launches herself into the air with a roar that could stop a hume's heart in his chest.

She was no longer just defending her territory. She was hunting.

((Okay, so I'll PM you now!))

He watched the female slaughter the apes with fascination. This was a dragon he should be learning from. He crawled out of the water once she had lifted into the sky. He shook as much of the water off himself as possible, watching her. He could feel his hearts both skip a beat. She was terrifying, merciless, and... and beautiful!

And she was going right towards the human villages, castles, and- armies. He had heard of females snapping like this, but he couldn't let her kill herself, not know. Dragons might have done well in their own territory against some humans, but armed and guarded castles were just suicide. And in the near-impossible chance she didn't die, she would be very injured and other pests would come, in large numbers, if the elders didn't get to her first.

He should keep moving, he should leave her to her fury, he was being hunted by the elders himself, but not for his human-snacking. If he stayed too long they would find him, he had already come close quite a few times and that was with constant moving.

He snorted, not knowing what would bring her down. Well... he was a male, he had the ability to breed, even if he was quite a ways from being mature enough to get a mate. Males tended to stay home for longer since they had a greater amount to grow and harder competition, as he could see now. He spread his legs and turned around, spraying his most potent marking on a tree.

Males could secrete some of their belly and fire acids mixed with urine as their spray. He was too young for the smell to go far or to be able to spray a lot, but it should at least reach her. Male spraying was way too powerful to ignore at her distance. Hopefully when she turned tail she wouldn't attack too fast. He might have been able to use some of his dragon abilities to escape the first time, but now he was damp, tired, and injured, if only a little.

He then stepped back and roared at her, but it came out too high-pitched. He was too young to have that fearsome roar yet. His tail floated just above the water as he readied for the worst, though he had a clever tongue and he was ready to reason with her. To maybe help his case, since she was a bit older than him and a female, he rubbed his face on the ground and snorted. He might not have been able to sound like a hatchling anymore, but he could mimic their gestures quite well, still. Though he was far from being a hatchling, he also wasn't a fully-matured adult.

In less than a decade no one would be able to tell which of them was older, he knew, he had just started growing his tail tipper. When it was done growing into whatever it would grow into, he would be finished once it grew except for his overall size which would keep growing forever. He had to use his under-maturity while he had it! This would work out, right? He wasn't being suicidal, right? He hoped so...

It could never be said that Safia lacked instinct, and her instinct drove her to stake out a territory and defend it. Instinct drove her to survive. Instinct protected her.

Now, with the scent of male heavy in her nose even as she flew through the air at incredible speed and height, it drove her to turn back.

And so she did, knowing better than to fight her instincts, which she could feel deep in the pit of her chest, hot as the fire in her belly. Even with the most severe bloodlust upon her that she'd felt in years, she still turned back immediately, letting loose a furious roar. For Safia, confusion such as this day lead immediately to anger and lashing out, and then later, when she no longer felt threatened, she could think about it more clearly.

For a dragon in Safia's position -- a young female with a large territory -- she didn't always have time to think rationally before acting. It was simply a luxury she did not have. She needed to act, to make sure she was safe, and then examine things more carefully.

Safia turns so quickly that the tip of her tail nearly touches her head.

((GAH! I am not going to get this done tonight, apparently. Sorry for the tease!))

His eyes widened and he braced himself to dive into the water behind him. He could outswim anything, but he would be even more trapped if he did...

"Wait wait! I just wanted to get your attention! I'm trying to help you, I have no desire to take your territory! Please! Your rage would have led you strait into a swarm of naked monkeys and they would have killed you for sure! I am not your enemy, I just wanted to pull you out of your rage!"

He continuously repeated reasonings to her, hoping one or another would sink in before he had to jump back into the watery prison and resort to less-than-dignified tactics (aka waiting until she got hungry and left for him to flee).

((I wasn't / am not, but that's okay! :P ))

Safia landed heavily, just a few hundred feet from the other creature, and released a blindingly white -- even in the brightness of day -- jet of fire from her great maw. It's heat scorched the ground, shriveling everything within its reach to a black clump of ashes, and then scattering it so that the ground lay barren but for the black, charred earth.

She held the flame until her jaw ached from being open so widely, and then she snapped her mouth closed, suddenly ending the vibrant, white torrent. The only sound, then, was of Safia breathing heavily, but the hush left after the roar of flames was undeniable. The world seemed a strange, mute place.

Saying nothing, she razed the other dragon with her vicious gaze, uncertain as to whether she should pursue him, or let him flee. He was young, yet -- too young, probably, to be standing before a dragon such as she -- and she did not, she realized, want to kill him. Besides, he was a coward and she would gain no glory by his defeat.

"Go," she said to him, "and do not return until you are more than a hatchling." For that was what he was: a meek, scared hatchling, willing to stand aside and watch Safia tear apart hume after hume without offering assistance.

He was lucky, then, that she did not eat his bowels for dinner tonight. Such as it was, she would welcome the chance to hunt, for it cleared her mind and helped her to understand things. But she did not trust this naive dragon on her land. He had killed a two-legged soldier, and then led them directly to her. Such foolishness Safia could not appreciate, and she would feel better to see him gone.

"Go," she said again, letting loose a menacing roar.

((I just realized time-skips in this RP could be by years. O____O ))

He snorted, "I've nowhere to go. I left my home territory before I could even breathe fire. I'm capable! Besides, those humans were already there, if I hadn't coaxed them out they would have killed you in your sleep. I brought you back, didn't I? If anything you owe me your life twice over..." He side-stepped away from her to make more distance.

"I can't really leave yet anyway... I have to dry before I can fly..." He grumbled, embarrassed, even hatchlings didn't have that problem. Usually only old or sick dragons could not fly when wet, but his father had told him it was another perk of his lineage. Once he was more developed he would have the power to fly straight from the water, but for now it bogged him down. It was a miracle he had survived so long away from his mother and father's protection. Maybe this female was his salvation?

((OH MY GOSH. WHAT IS THIS? A POST?!))

"You are weak. Wherever your mother's territory is, you should return to it immediately. Hatchling." Surviving did not make one capable. It made one lucky, perhaps, but not capable. Ants survived just fine, but it was only their good fortune that kept them from getting stepped on by those more well-suited. And so the same could be said for nearly all but dragons and the humans.

Except this pathetic excuse for a dragon.

She could see that he might have potential in that he had a certain ingenuity and way of speaking that made him seem far more capable -- as he liked to make her think -- than he truly was. Clever, for one so young.

"I am known as Starfire or Moonscales in other lands. My name is Safia," she answered. Though she spoke evenly, she shuffled her wings and dug her claws into the ground, impatient to see this dragon, Kyne, out of her territory. She wished to go clean the gore from her scales, but she could not rest easy until she knew that her land was again hers and hers alone.

He snorted at her, then, with a swift kick, pushed himself off the ground. There was no reasoning with this female, he would have to find shelter elsewhere. "Fine, but I'll be back so you can repay me, okay?" He flicked his tail smartly before making sure he was very clear of her territory.

------------

The sun was gorgeous today. It penetrated through his thick, healthy shield, into his hearts, warming his very core. He yawned, stretching gargantuan wings over the oceans crashing far below him. This tall, rocky, desolate island was his domain. He pillaged the towns of the coast and ate the fish of the seas below at his whim. It had been many years now, since his meeting with that female.

He was king here, and the naked rats scurried around him in fear, knowing he was always watching. They had tried to rally against them, in turn he had burned their crops and poisoned their water. He could take away their lives in seconds if he felt the need, and they knew it. They knew their place. Besides, there was nowhere they could sneak attack him in great numbers. His body was now thick and strong. His body alone had almost double in size. He had filled out quite well, and as his abilities needed, his wings were massive to accommodate him.

He yawned again, watching as a female danced before him. She was beautiful, scales that glowed a rich red in the blaring sun. He let the females do as they wanted as long as they entertained him during their stay. He had no interest in mating any of them though, they were stupid little birds. They saw his bright, pure scales and massive scythe-like tail tip. It was quite useful to be so admired and handsome to these females. They gave him jewels and food and groomed him when he had a particular fondness for them and would let them close.

He wondered how she would see him now, if she would even recognize him. He was quite a different specimen now. He stretched, snorting at the female. She was a bore, he wanted to nap. She flew away, looking a bit disappointed. All the good females were waiting to be wooed by males, these young hatchlings were nothing but something to pass the time.

He snorted, watching as a small boat approach his island. Only three men, he wondered what they would want here... He sat up on his perch, "You disturb my afternoon nap, the sun is so nice, what might I help you with that is of such utter importance?"

"Great beast! Might out kingdom have an audience with you tonight? On the land?" They bowed low to him.

He spread his wings and growled, "Return to your homes, I will greet you for a short while, but if you have any secret plans, you know the price... Leave me..." He burst into the sky, free of the ground and it's annoying peasants.

((soz not much interaction with your chara there XD))
