Without so much as cracking an eye to check on what he was doing, Safia simply allowed Kyne to wander off. He could take care of himself, and she did not sense any immediate danger. She had no doubt that the young male could certainly conjure up trouble, but, well, she felt much too warm and comfortable to be bothered with his antics. That was, until he returned with something that mewed and behaved decidedly undragonlike. "It looks feline," Safia grumbled, uninterested in the nuisance. "I've only seen one but once. They are more solitary than even dragons, and I do not know what they are called." Drake? As much as she did not care, that was a pitiful name. She snorted derisively. "You would have him grow into a weakling? All things grow into their names, Kyne, which is why they are meant to be thought upon, not hastily chosen. Wait and think of a name that will make him proud - a name that he should aspire to." With that said, she closed the one great, silver eye that she'd opened to peer at the tiny creature. Annoyance tugged at her, that Kyne would take the time to take in something so vulnerable and helpless while they fought to keep the humans from slaughtering their entire race. But perhaps, she thought, he needed something to take care of. Perhaps, through her own independence and treatment of him, Safia had emasculated him in some way. After all, she had many more years than him. She mulled over that theory for a while, finding amusement in it. "We should leave before nightfall," was all she said before immersing herself back into her thoughts. ((Sorry about this post. Definitely need to reread a bit to get back into it.)) |

((Kyne not Kayne, lol, but not a big deal your post was fine)) Kyne snorted, "To grow into?" Honestly, he couldn't even remember what his name meant. His father had named him and combined two words in a shortened form to name him. However, he could wait to name this furred... feline was it? He poked it and it sneezed on his talon. What a strange creature. It gnawed on his arm now, kicking the spot with its little back claws. Kyne stood and the creature fell off, but he picked it up with his tail and put it on his back. It must have been hungry. Then again, if its mother really was gone then the feline would have no way to feed itself probably. It did look a little skinny, but Kyne didn't know if that was normal or not, so he was really only making guesses. Kyne went to the shore and dug his head in the water, using his mouth as a net and hauling a few smaller fish out, spitting them out farther from the water, but not right next to where the dragons were to sleep. He pulled the feline off his back and set him down beside the few fish. Kyne watched in a strange amusement as the creature played with the fish and pounced on them- as if the fish could flop all the way back to the water and escape. Though it didn't last long and eventually the fish stopped moving and the hungry thing ate two before lying down. The fish hadn't been very big, but, then again, neither was this feline. Kyne picked up the baby with one of his talons and set it on a wing before slowly folding them so it slid onto his back. Maybe it was a stupid creature? It didn't really react at all. In fact, by the time Kyne had adjusted himself to sleep the feline was curled in a tight ball on his back, twitching in its sleep. A bird could easily pluck the feline off his back so he folded his wings over his back, covering his passenger quite easily. He woke up barely an hour later as the smell of a female flying overhead caught his attention, but it turned out to be a very young female, and she was just passing through. In fact, she seemed in a very big hurry to be away from the two dragons lounging on the shore. Kyne sat up, checking on the sleeping thing on his back, he hadn't even moved. "We should leave soon, I'm ready when you are..." ((ugh bleck, yeah it'll take a bit to get back into the swing of things ))

((Oops! My bad. I went back and fixed it. Sorry about that.))Napping Safia enjoyed very much. Having another wake her from a nap, she did not enjoy much at all. Still, very shortly after she opened her eyes, she noticed the smell that had probably awoken Kyne. After all, males had a better sense of smell. "Yes, we should go," was all she said before standing and shaking out her scales, dislodging the sand that had dried to her while she slept. She let out a great yawn, exposing her dagger-like teeth for just a moment, before taking off from the small beach. She rose slowly, trying not to create a huge displacement of air so that Kyne could take off immediately and not have to wait for the air to settle. As she rode the breeze, wheeling higher and higher, she gradually set a course due north. When she thought about how far they had come already, and how far they yet had to go, she found herself in awe. How could she have been such a large creature, and yet been so small compared to the land, or the sky, or the sea? For just a few minutes, she felt like an insignificant piece of a grand scheme, a plot so old and unwavering that she could not comprehend it. It seemed as though, whether she laid down and slept, or carried on and made it to the north, in the long run, it would make no difference, because the land and the sky and the sea would not change. A particularly strong gust swelled her left wing, tipping her to the right and causing her to slip across the sky, however, she simply let the air carry her, back and forth, using her tail as a rudder to keep her direction consistent. Who was she to argue with the wind? |

Kyne looked back at his passenger, plucking him off his back, knowing too strong of a lift-off would just make the feline fly off him. He held the ball of fur in one of his talons, gently, but tightly enough so he wouldn't slip out. He then lifted strait up into the air like a dart, flying through the clouds before tucking in his wings and dropping carelessly out of the sky, opening them just before hitting Safia, snorting in amusement. He craned his neck back and open his talons to look at his very scared little passenger. It was definitely awake now. "Sorry little guy, I'm sure you'll get used to it, right?" He looked far in the distance at the little light and smoke coming from a large mountain. If the sky wasn't so clear tonight you wouldn't be able to see it at all. "The fire mountain of assassins. The stem of dragon tragedies. That was the mountain the apes used to sacrifice precious foods and things to dragons for our protection from worse beings that plagued their lands. They have forgotten, and now they kills us for armor and weapons, and eat our flesh and blood for strength, stealing our eggs to grow them into small enough dragons to kill in their arenas for their young assassins. That is the center of our plight. The closer we get, the less dragons you will smell anywhere nearby. We will not get close enough to be wary at all, as long as we stay our course and do not start going inland. Soon we will need to be turning for the ocean, for the Great Isle where the Elders live along with hundreds of dragons. It will be a long flight from the mainland to the isle, before the final flight we will need to rest as there will be nowhere to rest in between and the sea creatures farther from the shore are vicious. If we fly for a solid day and a half, we can afford a longer resting time before the final flight overseas." ((ugh fail soz, idk what to do next ))

Losing track of the hours they flew, Safia simply tried to enjoy the flight itself. However, an uneasy stone rested deep in her belly. Where before she had been so certain about going to elders, what Kyne said had unsettled her slightly. Could she resist them? Surely others had tried to do such - others stronger and more determined than her - and failed. Yet, she had to cling to hope. The Elders had to help. There was no other option. ((Ah, I started too late. Sorry. I'll finish this up later. Falling asleep as I type.)) |
