It came as a scattered, throwaway thought. Not so present as to overtake your mind, but as one in a fit of boredom, wanderlust, or simple discontent.

The world seems so small, these days. More and more is explained and pinned down, leaving less to be discovered each day. You are inexorably reminded afterwards of how seemingly boxed-in your house, your city, your country- how mapped out the world has become. Everything starts to feel claustrophobic- an open field feels like a cage, your room a dark, clustered corner no matter the size.

And then it stops. The feeling snaps off like a lizard's tail when you open the door and step into a breath of air so fresh and filling that you're intoxicated simply by the feel of it in your lungs.

"You are Safe. You are Happy. You are Watched."

It's a door you've opened a hundred times, a door you've passed through without thinking so often you barely think about it.

This time is different. The claustrophobia of the world sinks away as you pass the threshold and into another room. It's an apartment of some sort. Behind you, the door doesn't lead back to where you came, but into a hallway leading out of the new building.

Onism is different. It flows and breathes as its own separate entity, populated by yourself and odd, faceless villagers. The world is green and fresh, a large river splitting through the middle of The City. When spoken to, they speak without recognizable movement in their blank faces or jaws. Their responses are negligible, always ignoring or avoiding the topic of The City's habit of taking people from their homes. Their clothes are a modern sort, looking almost out of place in the tavern or market, but at home in many of the other state-of-the art facilities. They seem kind and helpful, but always disappear at 9 in the evening into homes no one can find.

Outside of the apartment is a map, detailing the areas of the city.

But you can't shake the feeling that even in this paradise, where the world seems green and sincere, something watches your every movement. Out of the corner of your eye, a villager watches, eyeless. In your sleep, something surveys you.

On the large bulletin board outside of your apartments, only three short sentences are displayed.

"You Are Safe.
You Are Happy.
You Are Watched."
