Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

Out for the year. Fractured elbow.
“He’s always been a guy — maybe to a fault — he would always try to do what I said. That seems like something simple in coaching, but those are the guys I hang my hat on. We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves."

Just read that. Don't know what to say. Nobody's career should end that way.

Always thought nothing like that could happen to him....always looked like he had dinosaur bones made out of titanium.

"Liberal, shmiberal. That should be a new word. Shmiberal: one who is assumed liberal, just because he's a professional whiner in the newspaper. If you'll read the subtext for many of those old strips, you'll find the heart of an old-fashioned Libertarian. And I'd be a Libertarian, if they weren't all a bunch of tax-dodging professional whiners." - Berkeley Breathed

The way teams played him, it’s kind of surprising this is his first real injury.

Just devastating to him and the team. Gonna need some breaks now to reach where I thought they were headed.

It is surprising that it hasn't happened to him before.

My 15 year old has mailed it in, no chance for us now. But I've been around long enough to see some crazy shit happen........after it seems like all is lost. Beat Butler and give us a week to figure some things out. Odds are obviously lower, but I'm hoping for a Ben Crenshaw moment.

Does anyone have a video link of the play he got injured on? I've been trying to find it, see what kind of contact there was on it.

He had rebounding position, guy hooked his arm and kind of threw him to the ground. Seemed like a frustration, “my god I can’t move this monster” type play. Nothing dirty or malicious but things that Haas has dealt with for 4 years.

Per Allie LaForce:

Isaac Haas practiced w/@BoilerBall this afternoon. He had a brace on his fractured elbow. Brace needs to be cleared by NCAA. IF it is cleared, Purdue will have to decide if they allow him to play. He wants to play per Coach Painter. He will go through warmups tomorrow. @CBSSports

https://www.hammerandrails.com/mens-basketball/2018/3/17/17133642/isaac-haas-could-still-play

Biggest issue seems to be that it is his shooting arm and that there is a potential for further injury.

Hammer and Rails is stating that there is a 50/50 chance that he 'could continue playing'. Sounds like Haas wants to play but it is going to be in the hands of the trainers and Painter....Painter didn't sound as optimistic about the chances (could be a smokescreen as to not give Butler knowledge). I think Painter will probably err on the side of caution and won't play him unless he feels there isn't much chance of further injury and that he's able to continue with with at least some effectiveness.

In the press conference after practice, Painter said that he would dress and warm up tomorrow but didn't express confidence in whether he would be playing.

Could be that they look to have him ready for the sweet sixteen -- give him some time to get used to what he can and can not do -- and hope that they are able to beat Butler tomorrow and then have him ready to go next week.

Big 'stay tuned' I would say. Might look to get him limited minutes and put him in positions where he is more likely to succeed playing with the injury. I would expect that Haarms gets the bulk of minutes even if Haas plays, but I'd take a one armed Haas coming in off Taylor.

There has been so much upper body arm and hand fighting between Haas and defenders in the last four years. It's something that should prepare him for how he'll have to play should he make it in the NBA, but you're right in that it did increase potential injury. Haas' 50% hand fighting is stronger than most guys' 80% so the only chance they have is to go even harder.....and when guys are pushing at 100% to try to hold position, injury potential increases when you get off balance.

FWIW, current point spread in Vegas (certainly based on Haas not playing since that is when the line was established) was Purdue by 3 1/2 points over Butler. Thus far, 52% of the bets have come in for Purdue, so the line sounds like where the bettors think it should be.

I'd say that with or without Haas, if Purdue plays their A game they beat Butler.

Vegas had Purdue at 12-1 coming into the tournament and 25-1 to win the tournament after the Haas injury (and before knowledge of any chance Haas would possibly be able to play). So it's kind of like the difference pre-tournament of Purdue winning the title v Tennessee winning the title.....and Tennessee does have the potential to do so.

Haas isn’t going to play. Think the practicing was a little gamesmanship on Purdue’s part. The fracture is in his shooting arm. Just no way he plays.

I think it was part gamesmanship and part wishful thinking. No downside of him warming up.
