Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

Top 40 2019 big man is reclassifying to 2018. Purdue is in a really good spot. Illinois and Oregon are the other players for him.
“He’s always been a guy — maybe to a fault — he would always try to do what I said. That seems like something simple in coaching, but those are the guys I hang my hat on. We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves."

"I’d take him to the ends of the earth — I’d want him playing for me.” - Bo Ryan on Robbie Hummel

He's already scored a 32 on his ACT.....that's getting to Ivy League territory and wants to go into computer science. Could be that reclassifying to him has nothing to do with trying to get to the NBA earlier and more to do with getting a degree quicker. 247 compositive 2019 #40, #12 Center, #1 in Illinois.

Illinois has a really stellar CS program, probably better than Purdue's. But there is 100% no way to be a college basketball player and CS major.

With all due respect, Maker, maybe this guy is smarter than you. :P

My room-mate was a cs grad and seemed to live at the computer center. Getting through any STEM degree at Purdue and playing sports is super impressive. Sindelar is featured in the latest version of Purdue "Engineering Impact" Magazine, and it mentioned that he's majoring in Computer and Electrical Engineering. It's cool when we can land the really smart good athletes who can somehow cut it. (I couldn't have)

Wow, I didn't know that. That's really cool, and impressive, by him! I can see how someone much smarter with a whole lot better time management than me could pull it off, but some of those hell weeks when projects and exams line up would be impossible! I suppose if you go in on a 5 year plan, that would help too to spread out the really rough classes like Compilers and Operating Systems.

He’ll be an English major by sophomore year :D

But seriously, good luck to him. That sounds insane.

"Liberal, shmiberal. That should be a new word. Shmiberal: one who is assumed liberal, just because he's a professional whiner in the newspaper. If you'll read the subtext for many of those old strips, you'll find the heart of an old-fashioned Libertarian. And I'd be a Libertarian, if they weren't all a bunch of tax-dodging professional whiners." - Berkeley Breathed

Agreed, going on a five year plan could make a big difference. Still, thinking back about some of the "hell weeks" it would be a daunting task at times. A assume that a red-shirt can get a scholarship for five years?

Update on Sindelar's ACL recovery, and his affirmation of maker's 5 year strategy:

https://www.jconline.com/story/sports/college/purdue/football/2018/03/30/astonishing-how-elijah-sindelar-carried-purdue-torn-acl/469804002/
“I felt like the team needed me and I knew Nick Sipe was trying to redshirt and I know how much I enjoyed my redshirt season and how much that extra year helped me in engineering,” Sindelar said, explaining why he elected to play with an injured knee.

Don’t know what exact degree he would be looking for, but he sounds like a really bright kid. With the way many basketball players operate — going straight through summers — I would guess there exists the possibility of taking fewer hours in the school year and then catching up hours during the summer.

So much for academics. Chose Oregon.

Not sure how much he’d have played this year for Purdue anyways. It’s always good to get as much talent as possible, but he was a luxury for next year. Odd recruitment.

Especially for high level recruits, like Okoro is, I find the academic talk to usually be lip service. It would be interesting to know what % of top-50 players get a degree outside of the typical degree athletes get. In sounds good, and so many athletes talk about how important education is, but for the elite players, that's not typically a priority once they reach campus. I realize I'm on my soap box here, but that's a pet peeve of mine, whether it's an IU recruit, PU recruit, or otherwise.

Did he reclassify for '18 or is he going to be a 2019 recruit?
