Well now that we are on a "anything goes" message board. I can post this..... (unknown ;) Source) Freshman guard/forward Scott Martin continues to be hobbled after suffering a sprained left ankle against Penn State Tuesday night. Scott Martin is watching this afternoon's practice from the sideline as he continues to nurse a sprained ankle. He isn't practicing today as he's a spectator at this afternoon's practice wearing street clothes and a boot of the injured ankle. "It's sore," Martin said. "It scared me because I thought it was worse than it is." Martin is unsure when he may return, but has been told by Purdue's trainers that he can't make the injury any worse. "He's just going to see what he can do the next couple of days," Coach Matt Painter said. "We'll just take it day by day and see how it is. "We'll see how he does up in Wisconsin when we practice there tomorrow night. With a late game on Saturday, he's got a lot of time to ice it and do what he has to do to play on Saturday night because that's what we're trying to do." Painter said he is uncertain if it's a high ankle sprain. It's the same ankle he sprained in the first half of the three-point loss to Michigan State Jan. 8 in East Lansing. However, Martin did return to that game after getting the ankle re-taped. In need of a rebounder/quickness While Painter and his coaching staff are trying to win Purdue its first Big Ten championship since 1996, they're also trying to address some of the program's recruiting needs. Those needs are a big man and additional quickness. "I love our guards and I like our size with our guards and wings, but we need quickness," Painter explained. "(Purdue signee) Lewis Jackson is going to help us with quickness and if we could find somebody else out there that could give us more quickness, we would probably jump on it. I don't think you can have enough of that. When you go against teams that have two and three guys out there that can really burn it with the basketball, man it's tough to defend. "We need size, but we need the right size. I like our guys. I think JaJuan Johnson has an unbelievable upside. Scott Martin, Robbie Hummel and Marcus Green have done a phenomenal job for us. Nemanja Calasan has done a better job (lately) and is kind of battling some injuries right now. "We would like to get a guy that can really rebound the basketball," Painter added. "I think that's more important than getting someone that is 6-foot-9 or 6-10 that is going to come in here and can't beat anybody out. We need somebody that can come in here and rebound or we need some guys on our team to do a better job." Purdue would like to sign a big-bodied rebounder or a player with good quickness during the spring signing period. If Painter and his assistant coaches are unable to find the right player, they'll bank the one remaining scholarship they currently have and could use it for the 2008-09 recruiting season. "You must get size and you must get quickness that is quality," Painter said. "They have to be guys that can come in and help you win games and help you win championships. It's not as easy as it looks. You have to make sure there is a fit because recruiting is an inexact science." Banged up Boilers As Martin ties to get over his sprained ankle, there are some other Purdue players that are banged up, too, but that's par for the course 10 games into the Big Ten season. Calasan's back and knees are bothering him, but it's nothing that's going to sideline him. "I could go through everyone of our players and say everyone of our players is hurt," Painter said. "Everyone of Wisconsin's players are hurt and so are everyone of Illinois'. It's Big Ten basketball, that's the way it is, and I think that's a positive. "Every team that is in a bowl, every single guy in those bowl games that plays is hurt. It's the way it is. You just have to battle and do the things that are necessary and be strong mentally and fight through some things. Some times guys have to sit out, some times guys can go through it. It all depends on the person and it depends on the actual injury … if they can go, great, if they can't, that's part of it. "We got beat by Michigan State and didn't have Robbie Hummel, but that's the way it is," Painter added. "When we get victories and somebody else is out, we don't sit around and say, 'The only reason we got that victory was because the other guy was out.' It's the nature of the game." Some things never change Despite the 9 p.m. tip Saturday at Wisconsin, Purdue's schedule will be relatively the same. The team will fly to Madison Friday and practice at the Kohl Center that night. "You have more time during the day obviously on the road," Painter said. "At home, they're in their dorm or at their apartment. "We really don't change what we do. We do the same things with the time. We eat pre-game about four hours before and will practice (have a walk through) right before. We basically try to stay on the same routine. We just adjust (our schedule) to the time the game starts." |

Not worried about it, we will win or lose this game with or without him. Its up to someone else to step up and Martin by far plays the worst defense on the team out of the players that get significant court time. |

I still feel we'll need him. Chances are a guy or two gets into foul trouble early. Road Games in the Big Ten generally have a lot of fouls on the visitors. |
