Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

it'd be cool to eventually see some Big Ten and NCAA stats on the front page; like a quick reference, nothing too deep.

hey, i don't know a whole lot about authoring message boards, but i've had my fair share with websites, and I know on a website you can rip the HTML code from the ESPN.com source and just put it straight on the website. just when it tries to link back to its own page you add "http://sports.espn.go.com" in front of it.

For example with the Big Ten Standings:

[dohtml] <div class="stathead"><h5>2007-08 Big Ten Standings</h5></div>
<table cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1" class="tablehead teamTop tabular">
<tr class="colhead" align="right"><td align="left">TEAM</td><td>CONF</td><td>GB</td><td>OVR</td></tr>
<tr class="evenrow"><td><a href="http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/clubhouse?teamId=2509">Purdue</a></td><td align="right">9-1</td><td align="right">-</td><td align="right">18-5</td></tr>
<tr class="oddrow"><td><a href="http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/clubhouse?teamId=275">Wisconsin</a> #8</td><td align="right">8-1</td><td align="right">½</td><td align="right">18-3</td></tr>
<tr class="evenrow" style="font-weight:bold;"><td><a href="http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/clubhouse?teamId=84">Indiana</a> #13</td><td align="right">7-1</td><td align="right">1</td><td align="right">18-3</td></tr>
<tr class="oddrow"><td><a href="http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/clubhouse?teamId=127">Michigan State</a> #10</td><td align="right">7-2</td><td align="right">1½</td><td align="right">19-3</td></tr>
<tr class="evenrow"><td><a href="http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/clubhouse?teamId=194">Ohio State</a></td><td align="right">7-3</td><td align="right">2</td><td align="right">16-7</td></tr>
<tr class="oddrow"><td><a href="http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/clubhouse?teamId=2294">Iowa</a></td><td align="right">4-6</td><td align="right">5</td><td align="right">11-12</td></tr>
<tr class="evenrow"><td><a href="http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/clubhouse?teamId=135">Minnesota</a></td><td align="right">3-5</td><td align="right">5</td><td align="right">13-7</td></tr>
<tr class="oddrow"><td><a href="http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/clubhouse?teamId=213">Penn State</a></td><td align="right">3-7</td><td align="right">6</td><td align="right">11-11</td></tr>
<tr class="evenrow"><td><a href="http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/clubhouse?teamId=356">Illinois</a></td><td align="right">2-8</td><td align="right">7</td><td align="right">10-13</td></tr>
<tr class="oddrow"><td><a href="http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/clubhouse?teamId=130">Michigan</a></td><td align="right">1-9</td><td align="right">8</td><td align="right">5-17</td></tr>
<tr class="evenrow"><td><a href="http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/clubhouse?teamId=77">Northwestern</a></td><td align="right">0-8</td><td align="right">8</td><td align="right">7-12</td></tr>
<tr><td colspan="4" class="completeLink"><a href="http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/confstandings?confID=7">Complete Standings</a></td></tr>
</table>
[/dohtml]

came from the code:

Code:

<div class="stathead"><h5>2007-08 Big Ten Standings</h5></div>
<table cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1" class="tablehead teamTop tabular">
<tr class="colhead" align="right"><td align="left">TEAM</td><td>CONF</td><td>GB</td><td>OVR</td></tr>

<tr class="oddrow"><td><a href="http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/clubhouse?teamId=275">Wisconsin</a> #8</td><td align="right">8-1</td><td align="right">½</td><td align="right">18-3</td></tr>

a big problem is: where do i put all these things?

I want to avoid having a bunch of stuff push the forum lower on the page. i could see putting things below forums, that wouldn't be hard. i like the self-updating scoreboard, so long as it doesn't jeopardize page loading time. i definitely don't want to have to continuously update big ten standings, etc everyday by hand.

yeah, a non-auto update would be a pain in the ass. i never really thought about load time; that's a good point. it's probably better just to wait until the board gets more established. it will work itself in. by the way there's standings, rankings, news, etc. too.

yeah, especially if it auto-updated. i have an idea though: the ESPN Bottom Line is now a web-based app; it probably is updated using the same HTML -- in which case you could easily rip it off ESPN. I'll check into it.

Wow I just orgasmed that is awesome! I would have this page up in class (well not when the profs are looking).

Maybe a few more threads on the front page of "Hoosier Sports" would be nice. Kinda a pain in the ass to go back pages just to see a couple threads you missed (that's kinda pathetic, but I'm lazy). Just throwin it out there.
