Pearl would be a God-send to Indiana University. But think of the overhaul he would have to do. With this stuff coming out, White and Gordon are 100% gone now, without a doubt IMO. Ebanks' eligibility is in question. Depending on who the blacked out name is, IU could have been playing a year of basketball with an ineligible player which could lead to further sanctions.
There is no reason to believe a coach at a high profile school right now would risk all of that to go to IU. Without the sanctions, definitely a possibility to get Pearl or a few others, but this is a tough situation. The best bet is to do what OSU did when facing these types of things and go get a good mid-major coach and hope for the best. My guess though is that Dakich is your coach for the next year or two while the athletic department fills in the many holes that should be there.
uh - look at what he did at TN in a year. you didn't even know TN had a basketball team before he arrived. He would be Turdue's worst nightmare.
I said Pearl would be a God-send. He could do an overhaul and turn IU around, but the playing field isn't the same in those situations. I don't think UT was facing any major NCAA violations. I, for one, would love to see Pearl down at IU. I think the fans deserve an energetic coach who will have his team playing well. I, unlike you, don't have a blind hatred for another school. The Purdue/IU rivalry IMO would have its greatest decade yet if it was Pearl vs Painter. I'd love every second of it. Now, when it was Purdue against IU, I'd hate it, and wish he wasn't there because it'd be a war in every game, but on the whole, IU and its fans deserve a good coach who doesn't bring the program down. I just doubt Pearl's willingness to go to a program that would be a definite step back IMO. He has a strong base down at UT to build something big. Plus, with their athletic department, he will get paid well and will have great facilities and everything else he could dream of.
a 'step back' LMAO
yeah TN is a better program than IU. LMFAO

no doubt i agree he would be a godsend and it would definitely be a challenge for him but every program he's every been too has been a challenge. i think that might work in our favor in fact. coaches like him love the challenge. he's a pitino type. look at what pitino walked into at uk. nevertheless it could definitely be a tough sell for iu if the shit hits the fan like we're predicting.

this is true and no doubt would be the toughest hurdle to overcome in getting him.

You are telling me that RIGHT NOW, IU has a better basketball program than UT? You are telling me that going from a top 5 team with just a few seniors to going to a team that will lose its two best players and will conceivably be facing NCAA sanctions, is not a step down? I'd say 3 or 4 years ago, IU is a better job, but RIGHT NOW, UT is a far better situation.

“He’s always been a guy — maybe to a fault — he would always try to do what I said. That seems like something simple in coaching, but those are the guys I hang my hat on. We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves."

Now, we are comparing football programs? I fail to see how IU's current basketball program is as good as UT's current basketball program.
Yeah, things are turning out really well for Billy Gilespie. I'm sure he wouldn't want to be back at TAMU.
I know all about college basketball history. Through 5 to 6 years of having Davis and Sampson run this program into the ground, things are much different. After Knight, this was still a good job. After Davis, it was a bad team, but it wouldn't have been too hard to turn around. But now, it'll take years if some of the possible violations come down. Why would a coach like Pearl risk all of that when he could take this job and not be given a fair chance? How do you recruit enough players with scholarship limits, plus losing possible current recruits, plus losing the only game changing talent, plus a possible postseason ban? I mean, that is a near 3 year death penalty, and all of that is not out of the question. Major violations get major punishments.
