Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

I think DJ got really lucky at the end. He totally fouled the NW guy, but nothing was called. Anyway IU survives, just barely.

giving up 80 points to NW is embarassing

god that is fuckin ridiculous! even if we win that is a loss right there.

The RPI is deff gonna take a hit. Oh well if you get a win its still a win.

RPI is not based on margin of victory.

I was at the game -- crowd was about 70% IU. Second level was about 95% IU.

4 different guys defended Koble -- Ellis, Crawford, Taber, and Stemler. Crawford was the most effective, Ellis the least. Ellis was flat out horrid at both ends tonight.

One interesting note: with 21 seconds left, Koble was taken out so that he wouldn't pick up his 5th foul (NW was at the line and would foul on a miss or on the inbounds. Gordon got fouled BEFORE the inbounds play, though, so no time ran off the clock. Carmody wanted to get Koble in the game but couldn't since no time ran off the clock. So Gordon hit both, and NW inbounded the ball and let one second run off and called time to get Koble in.

Turned out to be a big play because down 3 with 5.3 seconds left, NW was out of timeouts and couldn't get a real good look on their 3 (and I believe if you replay it, Thompson stepped inside the 3 point line and it would have been checked and probably ruled a 2). It probably kept NW from running a play designed for Koble.

Brum's right, there was a little contact but no one's gonna call a foul on something that minor, nor should they.

I was watching it on tv and there was a lot more than a little contact, he was over the guy's entire arm. You still can't blame a game on a missed call, NW took a lot of bad shots in the last 2 minutes.

Had they called it, IU would have been sunk, but if DJ hadn't fouled the guy probably would have made the layup. He played hard and got lucky.

There were several missed traveling calls on Northwestern, and almost all of them turned into points.

But it was just business as usual in the life of a Big 10 referee.

Ugly.

Michael Thompson is 5'10". DJ didn't need to (nor did he) foul him.

And even if a foul were called, Thompson is one of NW's worst free throw shooters. 65% for the year and he was 2 of 5 from the line during the game.

IMO, Thompson should have never tried to take it into the lane.

That last play was not a foul. Thompson should not have taken the ball up with his right hand directly into DJ and the rim. If he uses his left hand and puts it up high off the glass, he gets two points and NW probably wins the game. Obviously he is better with his right, but as an D1 player, you would think he could use his left in that situation.

We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves."

I'm just telling you what I saw, which was a foul, but you can never blame a game on one call. I'm sure the refs probably missed and called, real and phantom calls respectively, throughout the game. Probably true about Thompson driving the lane. I was surprised that NW didn't give the ball to Coble for that last attempt or more often during the final couple minutes. He was 5 for 6 from the 3pt range. I felt that NW got really panicky in the last 2 minutes and really rushed their shots.

The no call on Hummel was a lot tougher call. He barely made any contact and most of it was right at the base of the hand after getting the ball. While similar circumstances, the actual play of the players was very different. I also don't see how my analysis of a IU NW game makes me a homer. Like I said before, I think White played aggressively, albeit a little riskily on that play, but it paid off for him. That's how it goes.
