Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

As I've mentioned before, I played a PC Baseball sim dynasty with the Cubs last year, every game, all manual, and I wound up losing Theriot, Cedeno, and even Eric Patterson early in the year.

With DeRosa stinking it up at the plate (hitting around .190 over 30 games), I had to shuffle the personnel and wound up putting Soriano back at 2nd base, leaving Pie, Jones, Floyd and Murton in the outfield. Pagan saw a little playing time as well.

But to my point, do you guys think Piniella will ever have Soriano back at 2nd base? If Pie and Fukudome produce, could Murton round out that outfield sufficent enough to stay solid all year?

With Soriano as a pivot for infield/outfield duties, the pressure off Theriot, Fontenot and DeRosa (not to mention the outfield) could be substantial.

If you remember right, Soriano was throwing a bitch about playing left field when he went to the Nats for that year.

Just curious what you guys think.

I don't know, I think he would be open to it, I think most of his bitching before was because he wanted a monster contract and a 50 HR 2B looks better than a 50 HR corner outfielder. I think the problem with that is you are pretty much just saying that you think Murton would outproduce DeRosa. I personally think we are better defensively with Sori-Pie-Fukudome across our outfield (plus speed and plus arm everywhere) and then Lee-DeRosa-Theriot-Ramirez in the infield. I still think Cedeno will sub in for Theriot at short and then Theriot goes to 2nd and DeRosa will be the super sub to give guys breaks. We have a lot of flexibility which I think Pinella likes. We don't have Pagan any more which upsets me because I think that if he got a chance to play, he would have been able to push Pie and be a great D replacement across all of the OF positions. Every time he got in there it seemed like he played well, plus he has great speed.

This is how I see our lineup:

Soriano- LF
Theriot- SS
Lee- 1B
Ramirez- 3B
Fukudome- RF
Soto- C
DeRosa- 2B
Pie- CF

You could also mote Fuku or DeRosa up into the 2 hole. There are a lot of options for sure. It'll be a fun spring to watch the position battles.

I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves."

Absolutely. Getting anything offensively out of the catcher's position has to be a plus, considering it was non existent last year. I hated seeing Pagan go too, and you know, my outfield was so banged up last year I had even called up Buck Coats from AAA Iowa. :) I actually think he somehow wound up going to the Reds.

If Pie shows any life whatsoever, I'd rather have him leading off and let Soriano drive in some runs further down the lineup, Theriot still in the 2 hole, and taking Soriano to hit behind Ramirez.

Lots of big if's, but the Cub's seem to have a good range of options. Man, I can't wait for baseball. ;)

Baseball is awesome. Its nice to have some options. I think the field players of our farm system have finally caught up to the pitching. We got a new player personel guy a few years back, and things have been getting better. A few years we just had some horrible options (before last year, I think Cedeno was our leadoff hitter :banghead: ).

Soto is going to be a huge upgrade. He can hit and has some pop, plus he can actually throw the ball better than my grandmother unlike Kendall.

Read my thread on Feb 20th. I heard this morning on ESPN that Tampa Bay is interested in Bonds.

The Yankees can afford someone who can play everyday and is not a piece of shit to the rest of his teammates.
