In case some of you hadn't had an opportunity to read my thread under Badger's Ebanks post. Here it is: This entire thing reeks of Miles Brand. This is the domino effect of Miles Brand's legacy. He fired Bobby, had a hand in hiring Donkey, then placed Herbert as president, Herbert influcences Greespan into hiring a cheater. Then to top it all off, Brand is the head of the NCAA, which holds our program in the balance and all of a sudden declared we have 5 major violations, but can't rule on it until June. By then all of our players would have defected, recruits gone, and a coach will not come to IU unless they know there isn't any postseason ban. THE DOMINO THEORY OF MILES BRAND. Yes, I am clearly insane, but only temporary until we get this thing put behind us for good. Far fetched, maybe! But I bet he never liked us IU fans after the Bobby Knight incident and could be holding a grudge towards that chant of "Miles Brand must go". Probably hears it in his sleep. :banghead: |

It definitely seems odd that they can't rule on it until June. |

If they are lucky it may be by 2012. I thought the NCAA was suppose to give IU their reveiw in December, but they wait until IU's toughest stretch on their B10 schedule, then they can't rule on it until June. I am just afraid that we will already have players leave and Ebanks and Holloway sign with other teams by June. What happens if we were lucky to land Bruce Pearl, but not until June. I am sure Ebanks and Holloway would have played at IU for him. That is why this all sucks!!! Can't IU try and get the NCAA to rule on it in April? I kept thinking I read something like that. I don't know why they wouldn't try to get the NCAA to decide their fate earlier. |

The only way would be to self-impose sanctions so that you could at least tell recruits and potential coaches exactly what the situation is. Obviously, the NCAA could still make them harsher, but if you go harsh enough, ensure that would be all, you could at least have a plan of attack. The wait and see tactic is going to end up killing the program for a few years IMO. Thats a huge risk for a coach and there already seems to be that players are ready to leave and recruits had already planned other options if such things were to happen. Swift action is the best way to avoid the NCAA hammer. |

“He’s always been a guy — maybe to a fault — he would always try to do what I said. That seems like something simple in coaching, but those are the guys I hang my hat on. We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves." "I’d take him to the ends of the earth — I’d want him playing for me.” - Bo Ryan on Robbie Hummel

I think that is what IU is trying to do. I would like to see this resolved as earlier than June. |

The main concern is that at the press conference last Friday, the lawyer there said that Iu would stand by its self-imposed sanctions from the October report. If that is all they do until June, with a ruling probably not coming until even later than that, then it could get ugly quickly. IU is in a tough position. You can't throw this season away, too late for that, so you have to wait until at least the season is over to announce an further sanctions. Any announcement probably gets rid of your recruits, but helps with finding a coach. Not self imposing may help with recruits, but will more than likely eliminate many coaching opportunities. The athletic department is going to have to have many things fall right and make good sound decisions to get out of this mess quickly. |
