Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

I am hopeful that right now Dakich is still trying to be a "players coach" and unite the team around him. If that is the case, then I am 100% ok with how he coached last night.

That being said, going forward, he cannot be afraid to sit Gordon on the bench for a few minutes when he is obviously rattled and playing poorly. I see the best coaches in the nation (K, Pitino, Pearl...etc) constantly sit their stars when they make a few bad plays. Usually an assistant will sit down next to them, help them figure out what is going on, and how to prevent it when they get back in the game. Put them back in after a few minutes and they feel like they get a chance to "start over".

That could have been very valuable for Gordon last night. What do you think?

The body knows what fighters don't: how to protect itself. A neck can only twist so far. Twist it just a hair more and the body says, "Hey, I'll take it from here because you obviously don't know what you're doing... Lie down now, rest, and we'll talk about this when you regain your senses." It's called the knockout mechanism.

I kept yelling that last night. Gordon was killing us. Seems like him and DJ are the only players that aren't benchable. I don't mind DJ never getting bench because I really can't remember him doing any thing this year to hurt us. We easily should've one that game. I haven't looked at the stats yet to see what Gordon'd line was but he had to have close to 10 turnovers. If he plays like that at MSU we are going to get dealt with.

He had a decent stat line especially rebounds and points, but two stats that should have warranted a few minutes on the pine.
TO: 7 (I thought he had more than this)
3pt: 1-8
Minutes: 40 (the only player to play all 40)

I know we all love Gordon, and I do to, but I am glad to see that someone agrees with me on this one.

The 7 TOs seem low. Must got help from IU's official scorer. This was the first game I really thought he should've been benched for about 5 minutes. Crawford and Bassett can handle things while he's sitting. Dakich is probably too afraid to hurt his feelings.

I agree Gordon was a liability out there a few times, he needs to be treated like everyone else and sit at some points. I am beginning to think that his stock has to be dropping

The media is still extremely kind to him, however I'm not sure if you saw it or not, but they pointed out on TV last night that Kelly Tripucka, Knicks Scout and former Irish player, was at the game. Obviously he was watching White and Gordon. I wouldn't want him going to New York anyway, but the point is that the scouts are paying attention, and his stock has to be dropping a bit.

As we all know the NBA draft is all about potential. He still has "top 5" potential and I doubt he gets drafted any lower. I feel bad for DJ because I couldn't name 10 players playing better than him this year in college basketball but I doubt he gets dradted in the top 10. I hope for his sake but he's slow for a NBA PF and too small for a NBA center.

No doubt. DJ is almost your ideal college basketball player, but as far as the pros go, I don't think he is even as good as Allen Henderson was. Henderson had a decent career, made some money....etc, but obviously not a star. I think DJ will fall a little below that in the pros. One thing he has going for him is his worth ethic, so who know, he could surprise someone.

Gordon is a spectacular athlete and when hitting from the outside can score in bunches, but he is a very streaky shooter and extremely turnover prone. Last night was actually not as bad as the two before because he actually rebounded the ball and contributed in other ways.

I know I will just be called a bitter Purdue fan, but honestly, I'm worried that he was promised so much just to get him to IU that he can't be coached. People seem to think he can walk on water or something, but he has a lot of chinks in his armor and if he is given the reigns on the team going into March, I think there may be a much more disappointing ending than expected.

He has some pro potential because of his athleticism. He can knock down the NBA three, but its not very consistent. He'd struggle to shoot 30% from there right now, which isn't really a good number. If he gets drafted in the top 3 or 5, that GM will be fired within two to three years. Eric Gordon is tremendously athletic against high school and even college players, but when he is on an NBA floor, he won't be the most athletic kid on the floor for the first time in his life. Since he has been relying on that for so long, how does he contribute?
“He’s always been a guy — maybe to a fault — he would always try to do what I said. That seems like something simple in coaching, but those are the guys I hang my hat on. We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves."

"I’d take him to the ends of the earth — I’d want him playing for me.” - Bo Ryan on Robbie Hummel

Dakich commented on this after the game last night. He said he should've sat Gordon a little more than he did. Also proclaimed Crawford as the best 6th man in the Big Ten.

by "a little more" does he mean "at all". Gordon played 40 minutes.

let's not forget, Gordon has a toaster oven on his left wrist. I'm pretty certain that cannot help his ball handling nor shooting.

I want to cut him some slack for that reason but last night I could not find it in my heart.
