Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

During lasts night's game I thought I heard Brent M. say that Dakich was traveling to Maryland next week to meet with two recruits (Ebanks and Halloway) and he's already talked to one on the phone?

I heard the same thing. That would be a major accomplishment if Dakich could persuade them not to persue getting out of their LOI until IU has hired an new coach and they have had a chance to talk to the coach.

If he is going to see them , does that mean he knows he has the job of head coach or IU already knows who his successor is?
Otherwise, whats he going to tell them? They want to know who they are going to be playing for. That's what they said.

Hopefully he's just doing it as an ambassador for IU. I don't want to bash Dakich since he's from Indiana, played and coach for Bob Knight, and came back to IU to help Sampson but I'm not sold on him as a head coach. All I have to say is 10 years at Bowling Green. A MAC school might be a great place to start a head coaching career but after 10 years if you were any good you would have moved on to a bigger job (unless you have ties to that university). If I remember correctly (and I might not be) he was only 10 or so games above 500 with one conference title? That's not getting it done. I hope we look somewhere else and he stays as top assistant.

He got the West Virginia job and then backed out of his contract for some reason. I don't remember why, but he is a solid coach. Bowling Green isn't exactly an easy place to recruit and have success.

I highly doubt he will stay, there is just too much pressure on Greenspan and the administration to make a "big" hire that it seems impossible that he will be the guy. Tough situation for Dan, but he will do his best and what is best for the Indiana University program while he is the coach. Unfortunately, I think for all his work and troubles he will get him a big :fuckyou: .
“He’s always been a guy — maybe to a fault — he would always try to do what I said. That seems like something simple in coaching, but those are the guys I hang my hat on. We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves."

"I’d take him to the ends of the earth — I’d want him playing for me.” - Bo Ryan on Robbie Hummel

I think Dakich is in a tough situation and I'm glad he's at the healm right now. We need a true Hoosier to help us through the time. I wish him the best and I hate criticizing him but he needs to shave his head.

Either that, or talk to Gene about good hair products. You have to admit Gene's comb-over looks pretty good on the BTN.

that's an interesting take on it. what DOES he say to them? he's got the hardest sell right now. "no really, the program is ok. just ignore all of those allegations, coach firings, and uncertainties."

i wouldn't want to have that job, but i'm glad he's doing it. finally, IU is actually showing a little bit of effort and desire. we could have just as easily given up on ebanks and watched him excel somewhere else.

here's to hoping he stays a hoosier!

I bet Ebanks stays if we don't get a post season ban. Dakich can sell him on our returning players (hopefully) and most importantly us fans. If Ebanks comes to IU he will be loved! I bet a lot of us would have the same reaction he has had. If the coach who recruited leaves the school you are going to attend it's natural that you'd think about leaving too.

Dakich is #2 in all-time wins at BGSU and went to 2 NIT's.

If you've never been to Bowling Green, it's in the middle of goddamn Nowhere, Ohio. I can't imagine any high level recruit wanting to go there. Didn't help that Dakich lost his leading scorers 7 out of 10 years to injury either.

He backed out of WVU because there were impending NCAA issues he was unaware of when he took the job.

I'm still not 100% sold on DD as the permanent replacement, BUT I don't think his stint at BGSU is a great barometer of his abilities either... That place was a dead end job, and I really think that was the reason he left.

I know it would be a miracle to get top recruits to go to Bowling Green. But a great coach has the ability to get poor talent to perform. He should've been able to win the MAC more than he did. I've graduate from to MAC schools and almost all the teams are rubbish!
