Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

I am 21 years young, and pushing 22 (April 17th).
I went to Roncalli High School on the Southside of Indianapolis
I'm about 30ish credits short of a Financial Planning degree from Purdue (about to start an internship at Northwestern Mutual, so I'm in Indy taking a class and working until then)

should have gone to TT to get a Financial Planning degree

TT?

Texas Tech.

I believe they have the top Financial Planning program in the nation

I see, too far away for me. I went to Purdue for athletic reasons (I just make it too easy to make fun of me don't I UB?) and I've just always wanted to go there. I started out doing political science, but didn't like the department. So I started in Krannert, and realized as an accountant, I'd hate my life, so I went with a business type degree. Its good stuff and look forward to my internship and finally graduating (someday).

We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves."

If you were going to go for a business degree, I would have to say Kelley is better than Purdue's business school. Every ranking for business school that I have seen has Kelley ranked higher. Northwestern has the best in the Big Ten, then Michigan, and then IU is probably 3rd best.

Actually I just looked at a ranking today from US News and World Report that had Krannert's Graduate School ranked higher than Kelley's. I couldn't see undergraduate, you have to pay for that.

Really? Damn I feel like a fool now. If I had to take a guess, I would have said IU was better, but I stand corrected damn. Good research though, thanks for the info.

Not to crow to much, IU was the very next school down on the list from Purdue. Kelley is a very good school. I don't think Krannert gets enough love though, probably because it hasn't been where it is for as long as Kelley has.

Kelley USED to be a lot better than Krannert. In the past 5 years or so, Purdue put a lot of money into the Krannert school, got a new building, and really overturned the programs. Its a solid undergrad degree, right on par with Kelley. The Krannert MBA program is about as good as it gets in the Midwest.

Either way, if you graduate from Kelley or Krannert, you are going to have plenty of opportunities. I have some friends in Kelley, and I've done all of the same stuff that they have done.

Guess I'll weigh in.

I'm 23, graduated from IU in May of 2007 with Political Science and Criminal Justice majors and Psychology and Computer Science minors.

If you couldn't guess, I originally planned on going to Law School. I decided to take a few years off and do Teach for America. Oddly enough, I got accepted into Teach for America but that lead to getting offered a position with a small software company. I was hired on the ground level to basically be the CEOs right-hand person. I don't have the benefits of being a VP yet, but in a year or two that's where I plan to be. If not, I'll be heading back to law school.

When we went through this exercise a few months ago on the IU board, I recall being a little older than one of the fathers of this board, Jazen. So yes, I'm in the over 40 club with JK1967 and some of the other posters here. Before blowing me too much shit though, just remember that I can probably post you up, AND beat you off the dribble. :D I could be tAmazingHoosier's dad, but I'm not owning up to that without a DNA test.

I have to admit I'm old enough to want to chime in on the "most awesome party experience" threads with some sage advice about taking school seriously, but you younger guys probably hear enough of that at home.... :soap: Ok, can't resist one comment. I had a couple of high school friends who developed too much love for weed. They quit sports, and lost all of their motivation. Try to keep the partying under control, or you may live to regret it.

I barely remember IU winning the '76 title, but enjoyed the '81 title. I became an IU hater in the mid 80's and didn't start cheering for IU bball again until moving to Seattle and working with some A-hole Pac Ten fans in '90.

I'll second that.

I'm one of the 'lucky' ones who managed to keep my GPA above 3.5 while partying more than most, but that's just because 95% of the time, I put school first, which lead to many mornings doing homework hungover while my roommates slept in. One of my roommates is a perfect example to this. He probably smoked over an ounce a week, which was fun at first, but eventually he couldn't keep up with everything. He eventually failed out of IU and is still working on getting a basic degree with a horrible GPA in 6 years. He had fun the first few years, but the last year I roomed with him he couldn't even enjoy it because he would get high or drunk and then depressed about where his life was going.
