Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

Just thinking about what could be.

Without sanctions? 3 years at the most if he doesn't make it to a Final Four. I know it sounds harsh, but that's the way it is.

I'd go with 3 years after this year.

This year: Top-15 Talent (Sweet 16)

1st year: Top-25 (Gordon and White leave, but Ebanks fills void) (Round of 32)

2nd year: We finally see if Sampson can coach offense at all without a star. Sampson loses in first round. (Round of 64)

3rd year: Sampson is forced to prove himself to keep his job. (Bubble round of 64)

If Sampson continues to recruit talent on the caliber of Gordon and Ebanks, he'll last longer. On the other side, if the sanctions come down against him or if he cheats again, he'll be gone a lot sooner.

If Sampson gets fired after this year, then it's very likely that IU has sanctions against the team. I don't see very many coaches looking to step into that role other than up and coming coaches from smaller programs.

My personal favorite would be Mike Anderson from Missouri. I've loved his style of play when he coached at UAB, and he's done fairly well at Missouri considering his best player is about on the same talent level as Ellis. That said, there's been very few Missouri games broadcast in my area, so most of my opinion comes from his days at UAB.

i know he's young and doesn't have any head coaching experience but what do you think of steve wojo on the Duke bench. he has however been a player and assistant with coach k, a knight disciple, for over 10 years. by the way that reminds me of a question...

I don't know what I'd think about Wojo. I think he could become a great head coach in 10 years, but I'm not sure that our fanbase has the current mentality to suffer through more mediocre seasons for promises of future success.

At this point, I'd have to say Dan Dakich. He really isn't a Sampson guy, so I think he would get a pass from all the sanctions crap. It would please the hell out of the older alumni, which in the end are the most important to the administration ($$$$).

Its a bit tough really, IU has never had a logical next coach choice. No matter what happened with Knight, there never seemed to be one. Most of his assistants never really got the attention because of him.

The post-Sampson era could be an ugly.
“He’s always been a guy — maybe to a fault — he would always try to do what I said. That seems like something simple in coaching, but those are the guys I hang my hat on. We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves."

"I’d take him to the ends of the earth — I’d want him playing for me.” - Bo Ryan on Robbie Hummel

Whatever we decide, I would recommend subtracting one year for that blue shirt.

If IU gets to the Elite Eight this season, I think he gets his ticket punched for another three years. If he doesn't get past the second round, he'll be on the hot seat for next year.
