Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

I'm in, but I'm not in favor of any "headstart", and I'm an IU fan. If we aren't as good next year Hoosiers, let's take it like men, but allowing a headstart to me seems like giving in to defeate before the season even starts. I would never do that.

Thank you all for allowing us to help those that need some assistance. This board gives me hope. If we can come together as sports fans maybe America can also come together.

I think that if Sir Brian can figure a way BTFU is in law school to do this legally then count the full football season with Bowl game and then regular season basketball and have the check awarded to the charity during the BTT a push each side pays.

I thank Sir Brian can create a paypal account and everyone who is onboard donates $5 to the fund by 1 June . That way the money can go into a cd draw a little interest and mature March 1st. New members that wanna play contribute and we get a new CD at the 6 month mark and the 90 day Mark. That way the money is secure and grows a little. The losing school supporters donate an additional $20. This way it stays inexpensive fun and helps the schools we love. BTFU is there a legal way to do this. 200 posters put in $5 = 1,000

Sir Brian you and Jazen do so much for us thank you both

I'm not so sure that I like giving the money to the opposing school. I think that the money could definitely be used for something better. If I'm the only one, I will shut up and go with the flow, but I think there are better causes than giving money to the opposing school.

why dont we have a spread instead of a straight-up bet? i dont really expect IU to win many games next year, and purdue is going to be an extremely good team..so i think a spread would be a lot more fair.

Sir brian it is your board so I agree. I still think every poster that wants in should put up a small amount. The losing school putting up money might not be fair because the IU fans (since it is ur board you share with us) outnumber us. I think in all honesty everyone puts up $10 bucks by June 1st that wants to and another $10 by Sept first. That way the money can be collected and put into a interest earning account. So the money draws the interest. Each board runs a Poll for the nominated charities. The first ballot the top three go into a run off and then that board post the charity on the schools board for approval. If 100 posters buy in. 100 X 10 = $1,000 we could raise $2,000 for a charity plus interest for the charity. Possibly if word gets out and a few sponsors chip in and something very generous could come from the rivalrly. That would be a good thing. My mother is diabetic and there are many legtimate funds for wounded Veterans plus Riley hospital for children. The charities are endless. The bet was more about shutting UB than raising money but since so many have commented that is my idea. The support for such a bet warms my heart. You all have helped peel of a layer of PTSD. Americans do care at least the nuts on this board do!!!

Do we really want to go through the hassle of trying to make a spread? That means we will all have to come to an agreement on our teams' record next season, and that'll just cause more grief than it is worth.

I haven't read this whole thing, but here is my suggestion (may have already been said). Why don't we put all of the money into one pot (everybody donates like 5 or 10 bucks or something) and then whichever school wins, we donate it to a charity and put either "Purdue University" or "Indiana University" as who the donation came from. That way, it'll be more money, and we can all get a little credit. Maybe we can even send them a letter and put the names of all of the people who donated from the winning team.

I don't just my ideas. It sounds like a fun thing though. We could even make like a scoreboard of some sort for the board.
“He’s always been a guy — maybe to a fault — he would always try to do what I said. That seems like something simple in coaching, but those are the guys I hang my hat on. We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves."

Great idea, I agree this should be a straight up bet no head start. I am a Hoosier fan and never thought the Boilers would be contending for a Big Ten Championship last year. So anything is possible and the Hoosiers could be a lot better than what we think.

As far as the legality goes I am not sure as it would be federal laws, codes and sanctions as we are all in multiple states.

You can gamble for charity in Illinois if you have a permit, not sure about Indiana because of their taxable casinos.

But here is the beautiful thing about this "wager" we could do it all online via paypal or some other electronic funds transfer. Hence bypassing any laws or regulations from any state we live due to the fact that the internet there are minimal laws (hell even copyright law is loose as fuck). The only problem I could see is whoever has to put it in a bank would have to claim it on their taxes, but if they donate the amount to charity it would be counterweighted by a write off due to the given amount. Or we could do it almost all online and even just electronically transfer the funds to the charity of choice and not have to deal with any of that. I am not the best with finance or tax law as it is only my first year but if we encounter any problems I am sure I can find the answers or ask a couple of my professors for assistance.
