Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,

I am a student at IU, and although I like it there, I am not completely happy, and get no studying done. Well I am considering transferring to Purdue. Yes, I know...... I never thought it either. All of my "real" friends go to Purdue, and I have to admit that I am happy when I go up there, and it seems that I would be able to study more there. IU will always be my team. ALWAYS, even though I am considering joining the dark side. Would you consider it blasphemy?

Depending on your major, I think it can be a good move. There is plenty of partying and other things to do at Purdue, so its not like you won't have temptation, but if you think it'd help your studies, I'd go for it. I considered going to IU at one point, but it just wasn't for me.

Also, watch yourself, two of my friends from high school were HUGE IU fans until they got to college, and went to Purdue and have now made a 180. I say do whats best academically because thats the reason you are going to college, not to see athletic events.

We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves."

Tim,

Leaving IU for Purdue is so far out of my realm of possibility that I can't even imagine it. Guess I have no basis for opinion but.......... :wtf:

Well if you're having trouble studying, I wouldn't even think about joining a frat.

Not to be a dick but, if you're having trouble studying, I wouldn't blame the school. Getting decent grades at IU is not very hard if it's something you really want to do. Sometimes you might not be able to drink on Thursdays though.

What I'm not clear on is how you think you will get more studying done at Purdue where you have more friends.

Bottom line is you need to do what is best for yourself and not rely on what people on a message board say. Talk to the three dimensional people rather than words on a flat screen.

I've already stated it before, but officially my Masters degree reads Purdue University (I went to a Purdue extension). Joking aside, we all know that Purdue is a fine academic school. We hate the sports teams, not the university. ;)

i know i need to do what's best for me, but i appreciate all of the opinions you guys offer. As for the more friends at purdue, i was basing that off of the fact they don't drink as much as my friends at IU, therefore i wouldn't be tempted as much. and yeah, definitely no frat by the way.

Tim, there's no doubt IU is more of a party school than Purdue, but like dc points out, you can find plenty of that at Purdue too. In general, you will find more peer pressure encouraging you to study, especially if you're in a challenging major like engineering or computer science. If you don't study regularly, which includes weekly lab reports and homework assignments, your ass will be flunked out.

Sure, college should be a fun time, but I paid most of my way through school, and could never understand why people would squander a good college education by partying too much. You have the rest of your life to party, until your liver gets bad.

If you switch to Purdue next year, you'll be cheering for the Boilers before the season's over. Let's compare: IU, perennially shitty in football, and sucking ass in bball for the next 2-3 years. Purdue, regular bowl games, with occasional berths in the better bowls, top 10 bball team for the next 2-3 years, and some deep tourney runs.

When IU eventually gets their shit together in bball again, you can always enjoy their success. That's what I have done since the early 90's, and I've only had to jump on the IU bandwagon once, in '02.

What's your major? That's the most important thing.

Sounds like you're in a similar situation to what I was in. None of my close friends went to IU, so I made a large amount of new friends my freshman year. Almost all of them put partying above grades. It's all about realizing that they're not the ones that make you party. Yeah, it's easier to study whenever everyone else is doing it, but it's a good trait to learn to do the right thing instead of falling to peer pressure. When I had schoolwork to get done, I had to turn my friends down when they wanted to party. They'll likely give you a hard time, but there's always going to be temptations in your life, so it's better to get used to not just following the crowd early.

I have a friend who left IU after her freshman year to come to Purdue and absolutely loves it. She says it was the best decision she's made. But yeah, mainly it depends on what you're studying.

Do whatever will benefit you the most. Partying is a temptation, you don't have to party while you're at IU. But then again, I've heard others that have transferred because its tough to get things done.

If you wanna be a Turdue asscork, go for it if it'll PAY off later ($$$$$$$$)

But don't think about coming back here if you betray your buddies here and become a gay boiler pretender. =]

Yeah, if focus and studying is a problem, IUPUI would be nice. Its a commuter campus and you could get pretty much any degree offered by Purdue or IU. Plus, Indianapolis is a pretty nice city to be able to find internships and stuff to do.

But, I also think Purdue's campus is awesome and wouldn't want to go anywhere else. Its really personal preference, and if you like Purdue's campus and the environment there, go for it. Unless you are a music major, you can get any degree you want and its going to set you up nicely for your future.
