Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

C'mon dude, you're better than that. Don't cherry pick quotes to support a position. Believe it or not, all Purdue fans don't think alike.

They're not facts until they happen, and Crean hasn't coached one game at IU. I do agree that you're in the best position since Knight.

You've been around long enough to know that better recruiting (especially at a prominant school) leads to an overall level of success.

That's not a fact?

As contradictory as some of these statements can be when it's beneficial, it's more like shooting fish in a barrell, Bobo, not cherry picking.

There are no facts to prove that Crean will do better in state. As a matter of fact, I think the signing of Carlino shows that the state is not his emphasis. Painter is working the state HARD, establishing alot of relationships with coaches and programs. I think that work will pay off greatly when it comes to head to head recruiting with IU. Just my opinion.
If you can sign kids out of state, then you better believe that kids in-state are still considering you. You think because Coach K doesn't text recruits in North Carolina every day that they don't listen intently when he calls? I'm sure the coach at UNC-Wilmington talks to in-state recruits a lot more than Roy Williams, but do you think they steal very many recruits away? The fact that Crean was able to get a commitment from one of the best players on the West Coast with power house schools like UCLA and Arizona speaking to the same kid speaks volumes. Obviously there will be more 3-star recruits for Painter to choose from in-state, but that doesn't mean he'll ever easily get top-50 recruits because Indiana will be on their radar as well as the Duke's and UNC's of the world.

I can tell you this, Matt Painter has a window of about 2 or 3 years to get it done. He's a young, talented coach, but with the hiring of Crean at Indiana, I'm afraid Painter's days are numbered at the success level he's achieved over the last couple of years. Crean is not only going to recruit better nationally, (yes, because it's Indiana) he'll also recruit better in state. You guys call it arrogant, I call it facts.

This is what you said and this is what rob and I are referring to. Those are your opinions, not facts.

I like you too much to do this with you.

No ill intentions on this side, Bobo, sorry if I sounded confrontational. I honestly haven't meant to do that.

Let's move on, shall we?

Let's talk about Florida and why the old farts eventually wind up there.

I'll repeat my points one more time.

Fans say you need bigs.
Fans say Crean will recruit Indiana better than Painter
Schollys may be limited in 2011.(which no one talks about)
2010 and 2011 classes are loaded in Indiana.

So you sign a player, be it a good one, who is 6'2" from Arizona for 2011.

From that one might infer that Crean's emphasis is more national than state.

We all know he's more guard oriented. Maybe he's got Watford or some other bigs all lined up and doesn't need any later. I'm sure he's got a plan for success and is trying to follow it.

But hey, you guys love it. Farfuckingout. I love it too.

I do find it interesting that the 2 examples you used were UNC and Duke.

Blah...

Bob, there isn't a fine line between recruiting nationally and in-state. There's a reason why you can have multiple assistants. If you want to argue he should've gotten a big, then fine; I'll actually agree with you. But if you want to argue that somehow going after a top recruit in Arizona diminished Crean's ability to recruit in-state than you're the crazy one. He may not be going after 3-star recruits in state, but you better believe he'll still be talking to the top talent every year.

As far as using UNC and Duke, they were just a comparison. Obviously we haven't been on par lately, but we did just beat out Arizona, USC, and UCLA for a recruit. So for comparison, do you think stealing a kid from Indiana that Purdue's been recruiting for a few years is harder than stealing a kid from Arizona who had offers from Arizona since 8th grade?

I don't want to argue that because that's not what I said. I'm talking about where his emphasis is. It doesn't affect his ability to recruit in Indiana. Maybe he thinks(and maybe you do to) that he'll be able to land the top Indiana recruits no matter what. Maybe he will, if there's schollys left. OK. Have at it.

Crean walks on water with most of you guys so all his decisions are just fine. He could streak through Bloomington and you guys would find a reason to say it's OK.

I'm not sure why we're placing so much emphasis on the 2011 class anyways. Yeah they are stacked, but like Bob said we have very limited schollies available for that class. I think Crean's focus right now is to get the best kids he can as quickly as he can. Carlino is a top 50 kid, how do you say no to that?

Just remember that Crean is on a 10 year contract, and the state of Indiana is almost always stacked with great players. It would be awesome to get some from the '11 class, but he could get zero and still end up being the recruiting powerhouse in the state for years afterwards.

Fine, I won't put words in your mouth, but normally when you say someone puts an emphasis on something that means they're having to pull resources from another area to do so, which I don't believe is the case. He has enough assistants to be able to recruit outside of Indiana without neglecting the in-state kids.

I'm not sure why there would be a reason to defend Crean yet. He hasn't even coached one game. For all we know, he might need just a couple bigs to run the system he wants. After we start seeing what he puts on the floor, you'll definitely see some criticism, but I think most of us are willing to let him try to execute his plan first before we start bashing him for his choices. If we get beat-up on the inside badly, and he doesn't land any of the bigs he's currently going after than you'll see plenty of complaining.
